I’m kind of behind on this news but Northern VA’s unsigned band Absolute Vengeance have added three new songs to their Myspace page. The three new songs Beneath The Flesh, 12 Steps and Guilty Of Thought will be on their upcoming Ep “Beneath The Flesh” which the band is hoping to release in February 2009. I contacted Jonathan Clay (Guitars) and he gave me some additional info on the release.

“It’s going to have the 3 new songs we put up plus 2 more new ones. So it will be 5 new tracks and we are going to include the first 3 songs we recorded also because they never got a proper release. Hopefully we’ll have it done in February.” “We are planning on putting the tracks up for download on numerous mp3 sale sites like itunes, rhapsody, etc. We are also planning on sending it out to labels and seeing what response we get.”

“Also, we are working on some new songs right now and hope to have 5-6 ready to play live soon. We are working on recording a split CD with a band from D.C. called Age of Ruin on Eulogy Records. We are going to do 2 new songs, cover one of their songs, and collaborate on 2 or 3 songs. The split should be 8-9 tracks.”

Their new track, 12 Steps was featured yesterday (December 22nd) on Garageband.com as track of the day. Head on over to Absolute Vengeance’ Myspace and give the new (and old) tracks a listen. The new songs sound thicker and the vocals sound a little more diverse and heavier than the older tracks. Seriously…give them a listen!

I’m not a heroin addict, lower class living where I grew up wasn’t that bad, my parents were good to me and my life has not all been that bad. It’s had some rocky points in it but overall I can’t complain because others have had it much worse. So the soundtrack of my day (yet another list day here at b5Media) goes something like this.

Starting yesterday up until now this is what I’ve been listening to.

Children Of Bodom: Needled 24/7. I was listening to this yesterday doing yardwork when I accidentally ran over a little tiny bunny with the lawnmower. That was not cool, I don’t care what type of music you listen to.

Killswitch Engage: Bid Farewell. This has nothing to do with the demise of the rabbit. It was just the first song to get played this morning on my way to work.

NOFX: The Moron Brothers. Say what you want about these guys, they are great musicians and this song is funny as hell. “Their company you surely won’t miss when your ice trays are filled with piss”

Sepultura: Orgasmatron. A great cover of Motorhead’s classic.

Lamb Of God: Ruin. From As Palaces Burn. Just a bad ass song.

Estranged: Guns N Roses. You could almost call Guns N Roses the first Emo rock band. read the lyrics to most any of the songs, you’ll see. Except GnR kick ass.

Dethklok: Castratikron. Just a random song I played. Anything Dethklok is awesome.

Crowbar: Planets Collide. I don’t listen to a whole lot of Crowbar but this is a real cool and heavy, slow groove tune.

Absolute Vengeance: My Revenge. This again is a great metal band from northern VA. Check out their Myspace. Absolute Vengeance Myspace

Mushroomhead: Crazy (Seal cover) I don’t listen to Seal, but this another awesome cover song.

There you have it. The Metal Martyr Soundtrack of my day. No wining or crying. Not even for the bunny, which would probably have been eaten or run over by a car sooner or later anyway.

The first batch of MetaMartyr.com Sound Track CDs went out today. Finally! I’m so terrible when it comes to getting to the post office. The second batch will go out a week from Friday. I still have a few left. If all goes well this month I may be able to beef up the quantity of songs on Vol. 2 by burning them as mp3 CDs. We’ll see.

I planned on going to check out a local VA band called Absolute Vengeance this weekend but I’m afraid I’ll have to try to catch them in December. I had some prior obligations this coming weekend so I can’t make it. I’ll see what happens next month.

I’m going to do some reviews and more giveaways in the near future. I’ve made some contacts at a couple of record labels and I get the chance to review and introduce a few newer bands that rock!

You know those bands that really kick ass and you hear them and wonder why they have not been signed yet? Absolute Vengeance is one of them. One of the Band Members commented on my Dragon Force…WTF? post awhile back. While it wasn’t a favorable comment for my opinion of Dragon Force, I checked out their website they left in the comment. Now they were not trying to plug their band, they just left the URL to the myspace site in the provided space just like anyone else (Yes, I check those out most of the time) I listened to one song on the myspace and was blown away.

Here is what I did. I sent them a message on myspace. Johnathan, one of the guitar players sent me a demo with three songs on it that are just awesome. The production quality on this cd is really good. With todays technology there is no excuse for poor production quality, so all you signed bands that sound like ape-ass on your cd’s, take a lesson. Anyway, back to the band.

The band is a metal band (Obviously) from Northern, VA, Washington DC area and is made up of 5 members: Brian Gant on vocals who does a fantastic job, backed by Johnathan Clay and Stephen Clay on guitars shredding it to bits, Drew Landriau on bass laying down lines and Last but certainly not least by any means Dwight Muhlbradt on drums keeping everything inline with his diverse drum patterns.

I hate describing a band by naming bands that they sound like because in this day there are so many bands out there, so I will say this: They sound like Absolute Vengeance. Great rhythms, melodic groove solos that don’t go overboard like a lot of crap these days and Brian screams and sings with the best of them. This band can only get better with time and I can’t wait to hear more when I go to the Show in Richmond.

I’m not going to bore you guys any more with the fact that these guys kick ass. Check out their myspace in the link at the bottom. Listen to the songs, you will be surprised. My Revenge is My personal favorite so far.

Thanks, Johnathan for the CD and stickers, I’ll be getting back with you soon about some other stuff!

Ok, so the B5 music channel did some top 50 bands list thing that I wasn’t invited to…so here is my own. This Is my interpretation of ten metal bands that I think you should know in todays metal scene. While this is my own list I URGE EVERYONE to put in a little input. I’m very open minded when it comes to discovering new music and bands. So if you feel I missed a band then by all means PLEASE comment and mention that band and perhaps in the future I can do a feature on that band.

Here’s mine…

1. Lamb of God, new personal favorite of mine, I can’t get enough of Ashes and Sacrament. LOG is the staple food of the new wave of American heavy metal. I now have every release and I only dislike one of them (new American gospel)

2. Shadows Fall, also a new favorite of mine. I had a few songs from previous downloads but now I have a few cds and love every second of every CD. I highly suggest everything Shadows Fall.

3. A life Once Lost, Iron gag kicks ass…nothing more I can say!

4. Trivium. Has developed there sound into such an amazing piece of work and has matured through the years. I hope they can keep the pace.

5. Hatebreed. yeah it’s hardcore and it’s brutal. Another band that has improved with age and doesn’t let down.

6. Megadeth. I’m ashamed putting them at number 6, but the fact is that Dave mustaine has decomposed and recomposed the sound of this band so many times and it has only come to the newest line-up to become the best since the Rust, Countdown,Youthanasia, Cryptic days. I hope this line-up stands cause United Abominations is the bands best release in a long time.

7. Divine Heresy. Dino Cazares new band takes it to the next level while keeping it interesting. With the new wave of American Heavy Metal scene brewing cookie-cutter bands, this one stands out.

8. Killswitch Engage. While a lot of people don’t like them cause they mix some metal, to hardcore to emo-ish lyrics, this band keeps a metal inspired feel while keeping the songs interesting sans/solos. Howard Jones voice is diverse and the bands as a whole, aside from sometimes cheesy stage presence, kicks ass.

9. The Sword. While the production quality lacks on Age Of Winters, this band keeps it simple and Metal. Sabbath-ish riffs and songs bring you back to the beginning of doom type metal.

10. Mastodon. With the release of Blood Mountain and In my opinion, their best release, Mastodon shows what sets them apart from every other signed band in the network. Diversity is the key while consistency shows formality…you figure it out…Mastodon kicks ass!

An honorable mention is Absolute Vengeance. A.V. is an unsigned Virginia band that I can see getting big. If they don’t get signed then DAMN the record industry, cause I have only heard very little of the band and they already have my attention. I will do a future feature on this band…keep an ear out for Absolute Vengeance! I may not be a big time music mogul, but I know talent when I hear it. With the music industry signing every shitty band that comes along, the good ones get overlooked.

Anyway, this is my list. Feel free to add to it, but don’t take away. I’ll respect yours as you respect mine…
