Slipknot Sulfur Video

April 18, 2009 by Scott

You know, I’m feeling very under-stimulated by Slipknot videos as of late. Remember the amazing videos for Wait And Bleed, Iowa’s Left Behind and Vol. 3’s Duality? Well this ain’t it. It just doesn’t have the same effect those videos had one me. Of course the entire album doesn’t have the same effect the earlier releases had on me either. Maybe I’m just getting old and have seen much better videos as of late. Maybe I’m just growing out of this band. Hell, I don’t know. My metal preferences have shot in all sorts of different directions in the past year. Who knows what’s next? Headbangers Blog premiered the video a little earlier and here it is in full. It will be in rotation on tomorrow night’s Headbangers Ball.

Slipknot Sulfur Video Teaser

Sulfer is one of those songs off of All Hope Is Gone that I really have mixed feelings about. On one hand I kind of like it but there are times that I really hate it. It kind of has a self-titled/Iowa feel to it and then goes for the Stone Sour thing during the chorus. The fact that it actually has a halfway decent solo in it is one thing that holds it together. I do know that it’s one of the very small handful of songs that are actually listen-able on the album. I’m going to give this album a once-through today and see if it sounds any better 6 months later. Here is a preview of the video via Headbangers Blog, that will premiere this weekend on Headbanger Balls. (by the way, I love how MTV is putting commercials in to their embeds now!)

Shawn Crahan Making More Shitty Videos

April 13, 2009 by Scott

Slipknot Blabbermouth reports that Slipknot’s Shawn Crahan announced via his twitter that he’s editing video for a DVD for the anniversary of Slipknot’s 10 year release…or something like that.

Also working on the special ten year package for Slipknot today as well! I have been editing a DVD together. Wait until you see this stuff!!

I kind of dig some of Shawn’s photography, just because it’s so abstract and out of the norm. However, Inside The 9 was terrible in my opinion. It wasn’t so much the live and behind the scenes footage, because I always like that kind of stuff. Everything around it though became redundant and annoying to me as a slipknot DVD. Not to mention the lack of a good menu to navigate through the DVD. The DVD that came with All Hope Is Gone special edition was the same way.

Something else I found kind of funny is that Crahan has almost 2000 followers…but chooses not to follow anyone else on twitter.

Reviewing Reviews Of 2008

December 28, 2008 by Scott

wounds Looking back at some of my reviews of 2008 I can’t help but express how much I hate doing reviews sometimes. Sometimes you get excited for a newly released cd and love it for the first couple listens. Some are great cds with good sound but then later on you read what others stated in their reviews and second guess your own opinion. Some are great at the first listen but don’t hold a lasting effect that a good cd needs in order to make it a truly good release. Some take some time to sink in before you actually really start to enjoy them and some are immediate favorites. Some leave you wanting more in the manner that the entire CD is great and you want to hear more from the band and some leave you wanting more in the manner that there were only a few good songs and the rest fall really short and feel like fillers. Below are some reviews that I look back at and don’t quite feel the same as I did when I reviewed them and some I still hold firm.

Slipknot: All Hope Is…Gold

December 19, 2008 by Scott

Slipknot All Hope Is Gone Slipknot’s August 26th release, All Hope Is Gone has been certified gold in the United States. ON December 9th the RIAA officially certified it gold after the record has sold almost 600k copies since it’s release.

Does this mean that this is a great record? I think I’ve stated my dislike for this record enough already, considering that I’ve loved every other album they’ve released so far. Some people say that a bands name can sell records as long as they have established themselves in the music business. I can totally agree with this statement even with the recent “flop” of sales of Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy.

I say “Flop” because everyone is saying that it’s been a huge failure…and it has. It has flopped in the sense that they expected to sell a lot more than it has up to date, even though it’s sold over 300k in less than a month. Most metal bands these days are happy if they sell 10k in the first month.

The Game Outsells Slipknot…Who Really Cares

September 3, 2008 by Scott

Slipknot All Hope Is Gone According to the Billboard 200 charts The Game took the number one spot from Slipknot by only 13 albums. Some people are making a big deal out of this and I think it’s pretty cool just to see them that far up there. Seriously, who cares if the made No. 1 or No. 2., that’s pretty damn good for a metal band in the commercially dominant world pop and hip hop. It’s not often you see a metal band that high up on the billboard charts. But I think the game will drop by next Friday. You know what I mean?

UPDATE!! Apparently someone pulled some strings and re-investigated the sales, or whatever and it was discovered that Slipknot actually out-sold the game by 1134 albums sold.

Scrap Metal Report Labor Day Edition 9/1

September 1, 2008 by Scott

The Scrap Metal Report

Just a few things real quick and I’m off to see if I can find a driving range that is open on this beautiful Labor day.

  • Slipknot’s All Hope Is Gone has landed at number 2 on the UK charts and number 1 on the Australian charts. So how’s it hitting on the Billboard Charts? Who gives a crap because the Billboards have their genres and stuff all screwed up. On a side note this album has started to grow on me a bit. I still feel it’s not their best work and there are still a few songs that I’m not feelin’, but it’s not too bad. Suppose it could have been worse.
  • KISS are going to start marketing “Hotter Than Hell Ketchup” in the Myrtle Beach, SC KISS Coffee House…and you can be a proud owner of some spicy habanero ketchup (wouldn’t that be ‘hot sauce’? I’m just sayin’) for just 7.95 USD a bottle…
  • Dark Funeral guitarist “Lord Ahriman” (~snicker-snicker~) are a couple of weeks into the pre-production of their next album and want to make sure they are “666%” satisfied before going into production.
  • The Haunted have anounced a few Australian tour dates. The new album ‘Versus‘ will be out the end of this month. Nov. 08 - Brisbane, AUS @ The Arena, Nov. 09 - Sydney, AUS @ Manning Bar, Nov. 11 - Melbourne, AUS @ The Hifi, Nov. 13 - Perth, AUS @ The Capitol
  • Bruce Dickinson piloted a plane that brought home some British RAF (Royal Air Force I’m assuming) returning home from Afghanistan.
  • And lastly Austrian Death Machine will debut their first video from the recently released album Total Brutal. The video for “Get To The Choppa” will debut on Myspace Metal on September 3rd.
