Amon Amarth’s The Avenger Next Up For Re-Issue

Amon Amarth’s Once Sent From Golden Hall was re-issued and released a little over a month ago, remastered and with a live cd. The next album up for re-issue through metal blade records is their 1999 release, The Avenger. The announcement came on their myspace page this morning:

Disc two features the live recording of the show AMON AMARTH played on December 29, 2008 in Bochum, Germany where they played the album in its entirety.

The order of songs is the same as on disc one (excluding ‘Thor Arise’). This reissue (and all the other ones to follow up later in the year) will be released as an eight-sided double-digipak with individual pop-up. All four pop-ups attached to each other show a special three-dimensional pic. The reissue also features liner notes by the band.

The Avenger is set for a May 26th release date on Metal blade records.

Having to deal with computer problems today has got my week off to a bad start. What could possibly fix that? A bad ass video from Amon Amarth. Myspace debuted Amon Amarth’s new, epic video from Twilight Of The Thunder God. Here is Guardians Of Asgaard, which also features guest vocals by Lars Göran Petrov of Entombed and appearance by Children Of Bodom guitarist Roope Latvala. Enjoy.

Amon Amarth’s First 4 Albums To Be Re-issued This Year

Amon Amarth will be re-issuing their first four albums this year in a special edition format but at regular CD price. Starting with Once Sent From Golden Hall, the reissue will be remixed and will include bonus tracks and a live DVD. From what I’m gathering it’s going to be their first 4 albums on Metal Blade and not anything before that.

The Live DVD in the first re-issue will be from a recent concert on December 28 in Bochum, Germany. The track list for the re-issue is below.

Top 10 Metal Albums Of 2008

2008 has been a great year for metal. Here is my Top 10 Favorite Metal Albums of 2008 (that I own). I know that there are probably a lot of other amazing metal albums that came out this year but I can only go off of what I own and what I’ve heard. So more or less these are my favorites and not some definitive collection of what I think is the best. How many people can honestly say that they have heard and thoroughly listened to every new metal album that came out this year? Anyway, let’s get to it.

Amon Amarth Guest Blog At Headbangers Blog

Amon Amarth frontman, Johan Hegg recently contributed a guest blog over at Headbangers blog. He thanks the fans, talks about the bands growth in popularity and touring. Here is a short excerpt from the blog.

It’s hard to imagine that only a few years ago we were still holding down full time jobs and having to use our vacations to do tours. How we managed to do that and not get fired is anybody’s guess, but we must have been very fortunate to have understanding bosses. It was tough, though, and we sometimes would up coming straight off tour and going back to work the next day, hardly sober from the end-of-tour-party. Needless to say it was also tough on our families.

Lucky to have understanding employers and families, indeed. Good things come to those that work hard, make sacrifices and follow their dreams. This kind of fame and fortune (and when I say fortune I don’t necessarily mean the money) doesn’t come easy and although I haven’t been following this band for very long, I feel that they deserve every bit of it. If you have yet to pick up Twilight Of The Thunder God, I highly recommend it. The dvd that comes with it is fun to watch as well.

Metalsucks.net and metal Injection sponsored a contest to make a bad-ass 1 minute video for Amon Amarth. The winner received the complete Metal Blad Amon Amarth Discogrpahy, DVD set and the newest release, Twilight Of The Thunder God. The winner was announced yesterday. The winner was a dude named Christian who submitted an animated short "The Wild Hunt". It’s a cool little Macromedia Flash animation.

Trivium And Amon Amarth Land On Billboard 200

Who ever said metal would never be big was a complete fool. Both Trivium and Amon Amarth have landed in the top 50 of the Billboard 200. Look at it this way. These metal bands are all in the top 100. There may be more.

Metallica – Death Magnetic
Slipknot – All Hope Is Gone
All That Remains – Overcome
Disturbed – Indestructible
Underoath – Lost In Separation
All Shall Perish – Awaken The Dreamers

So metal is pretty much kickin ass on the billboard charts as far as album sales go. Both Twilight Of The Thunder God and Shogun are great albums, so it wasn’t much of a surprise that these guys landed where they are. Trivium has sold just under 24,000 copies of shogun and Amon Amarth have sold more than 11,000 copies of Twilight’.

Amon Amarth Twilight Of The Thunder God Is No Epic New Record..But Still Very Cool!

If you have already read any other reviews on Amon Amarth’s new record Twilight Of The Thunder God then you know what they are saying. It’s nothing really new or different from their last cd, With Oden On Our Side. It’s just another Amon Amarth album. It’s like a continuation of With Oden’. It’s heavy, filled with great metal rhythms and riffs, typical Amon Amarth solos and lyrics about Viking stuff. The vocals sound a bit deeper and grittier than their last, sort of the way they sound in Fate Of Norns but much more clear and not drowned out by the rest of the music.

The cd comes with a bonus DVD of Amon Amarth playing live at the Summer Breeze festival 2007 that’s pretty cool. The inner sleeve has the lyrics written in the usual font and a group picture of them standing there…with their arms folded. The usual. It’s obvious that they aren’t trying to re-invent their sound or anything. They are just trying to write and perform cool songs that they know their fans will enjoy.

If you like With Oden On Our Side then you’re sure to like Twilight Of The Thunder God. It’s another Amon Amarth album that makes you want to strap on big leather wrist-bands, tear your shirt off, prop your foot up on something, shake your fist, sing along, pillage a village, rape some peasant women, and kill any opposing man. Well maybe not the last three, but you can’t as for much more than that from these guys!
