The 13th Annual Hollywood Film Festival’s “Hollywood Awards” ceremony was held last night before a standing-room-only audience of over 1,100 Hollywood Film Festival attendees at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

The winners of the festival’s film competition were announced Sunday night at the Hollywood Discovery Awards Presentation Ceremony at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood. This year’s winners are:

• “CROSSING” by Kim Tae-kyun — Best Feature Film
• “GARBAGE DREAMS” by Mai Iskander — Best Documentary
• “SCENESTERS” by Todd Berger — Best Comedy
• “STORIES FROM THE PERCH” by Andrew Zimbelman — Best Animation
• “LAMBS” by Stephen Huff — Best Short Subject
• “AS I LAY DYING – THE SOUND OF TRUTH” by Brian Thompson — Best Music Video

AS I LAY DYING frontman Tim Lambesis comments on the win,

“The Sound of Truth video could not have been made without an entire team of amazing people. It was a combination of two individually complex forms of art that came together seamlessly to create one great video I’m very proud of. The basic concept is related to the music and lyrics that we wrote, but Brian Thompson and his whole crew took that beyond what we could have imagined.”

Directed by Brian Thompson, who helmed their futuristic clip for “Nothing Left,” the video for “The Sound of Truth” was made at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, CA and is a continuation of the story the first video initiated. Like its predecessor, the story for this video was conceived by the band, fine-tuned by director Brian Thompson, and displays the irony and hypocrisy that takes place in a decaying futuristic society.

If it’s the latter, that’s a pretty stupid concept considering the same thing was said about Guns N’ Roses Chinese Democracy. Hell, Best Buy bought a million copies, only of which maybe a few hundred thousand (and I may be way off) have actually sold since it’s release in November.

I have nothing against As I Lay Dying. I like the band despite what a lot of people may say or think. This shipped vs. sold thing has absolutely nothing to do with the band, but it’s not sold until a fan buys it from a retailer. That’s like saying GM is selling millions of cars when they are actually sitting in dealer lots.

Ok, Tim’s Ahhnold impression is not the best I’ve heard but he doses alright and it makes this cd fun and enjoyable. Every song has a catch phrase from Arnold Schwartzenegger’s movies. You can pretty much look at the track listing and figure out which movie it’s from. Just when you think Tim is going to sing in the voice of Ahhnold, but he sings like he does in AILD. The guitars drums and everything in between is heavy as hell and the solos rip.

The cover art was done by Ed Repka. You might know him from other covers such as Megadeth’s Peace Sells…, Rust In Peace, a couple of Death albums, A Venom album and a bunch of other metal album covers.

So if you have a good taste for fun heavy metal then give Austrian Death Machine Total Brutal a listen.

Austrian Death Machine

Ahhnold is the embodiment of everything brutal and stereotypically metal, so he is the perfect front-man for each of these songs that I wrote in less than an hour. If you think that shows any sort of disrespect or makes me less of a fan than you are, then I’d like to hear the entire CD you wrote in tribute to the governator. Plus, let’s be honest, it came out a lot better than a lot of bands who are totally serious and practice all the time. Everything I put into my other band (As I Lay Dying) is heartfelt and full of passion. This, on the other hand, is an outlet of pure testosterone and stupidity. I hope you’re ready… chances are you already know the words to every chorus, so sing along!

I’m goign to swing by the record store and pick this up today just because. I’ll also do a review on it later as well. Sounds like some funny shit!
