On Vh1 Classics the other days I saw this video when I was channel surfing. I watched it from wherever I cam in at to the end. My first question is, is all that leather mandatory? Does he still think it’s a metal fashion statement or something? Anyway, This is one of those videos where they shoot a live performance and dub the sound over the top of it. Half the time he was singing in the audio, he wasn’t in the video. I don’t like the song. I think it’s corny and it sucks. I also know that Sebastian Bach’s voice isn’t nearly what it was back in his prime and he’s not that old. Perhaps that’s what kissing Axl Rose’s ass 24/7 does to your your vocal chords, I don’t know. Now I used to really like his vocals back in the Skid Row days. He had some really great pipes and could hit those high notes but those days are over. I can only imaging how awful this is in a live performance. Watch the video…do the math, gargle afterwards.

In the first part of this article I talked about bands that are hated because they changed styles or just are not really accepted by a lot of metal fans in the community of the huge dysfunctional family we call Heavy Metal. Now I’m going to talk about some of the Metal stars that somewhere along the line thought that they are better than other people and look down upon people, both fans and other bands as peasants in their kingdom of fame. Some of the stars become cocky and self righteous douche bags. Now lets have a little fun and throw some names out there.

Metal Diva #1. Dave Mustaine. Good old Dave is hated by not only a lot of fans but a lot of other metal stars. He’s made more enemies than friends throughout the years and always has something to say about something. A lot of times Dave speaks intelligently and says some very pointful things on controversial issues. Then there are those times that Dave says some really stupid and ego-eccentric things that make you say “WTF?”, like when he has to remind people that he’s a “Legend”. We know you are Dave but it just sounds ridiculous when you actual say it.

Rob Zombie has become somewhat of a metal diva. I don’t know if you want to call him that, but when you start demanding stuff on your rider before shows and insisting that other bands on tour do not talk to you or even look at your wife/girlfriend then you just come off as a complete ass. I almost forgot…Also Rob put out a greatest hits CD and didn’t credit the former members of White Zombie anywhere in the credits…not even a mention of any of them.

Sebastian Bach…nothing more to add.

Axl Rose…I could use Axl for the complete subject of part 3. But I don’t want to make this a three parter.

Ozzy Osbourne. Dude…your the “Prince Of Darkness” not the god of metal. Did you know that almost nobody on the Ozfest card gets to actually meet Ozzy unless you already know him and are in tight with Sharon and Ozzy. It’s kind of crazy what fame does to people.

Phil Anselmo is hated because he also comes off as a cocky, arrogant prick. A lot of people attribute their hatred to the fact that Phil broke up Pantera which leads others to blame him for the death of Dimebag. Rita Haney blames a big part of Dimes death on Phil saying that if Pantera had not broke up then Dime would not have been playing that shit-hole of a club. I think Dime liked playing those shit-hole clubs and a lot of big names play the Alrosa Villa. Quit trying to point fingers Rita. The only one you can blame is the Schizo that pulled the trigger.

Tommy Lee, once a legendary drummer (why? I don’t know), Tommy ventured into doing a solo record that bombed, a crappy band that bombed and at 40 something years old he’s trying to be a DJ. Thankfully he will always have Motley Crue to lean back on.

I could go on about a lot more Metal Divas but honestly it would start to become redundant. The thing about a lot of the Metal stars is that no matter how huge their egos get, no matter what they say, we still have an undying loyalty to them in a sense. There are times that you are embarrassed to be a fan but you would not let that stop you from banging your head when you hear your favorite song from that band. It wouldn’t stop you from sticking up for that person or band when someone that is not a metal fans talks trash about them. It’s like sibling love. You can pick on and talk shit about your brother or sister all you want but if someone else does it then “Them there are fightin’ words”. We can talk trash about them because in the end we are fans and that’s part of what we are and have become. I said in a recent comment to someone that opinion are opinions, but the truth pisses people off. We’ll see how many people get pissed at me for this post.

Sometimes it gets to be a bit ridiculous but we carry on in one big love/hate relationship with each other as fans and bands and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!

When teenager and amateur photographer Marc Canter set out to document his best friend Saul Hudson’s rise as a rock guitarist in 1983, he never imagined that he was actually documenting the genesis of the next great rock and roll band of the era. His friend became the legendary guitarist Slash and Mr. Canter found himself front and center, witnessing the creation of Guns N’ Roses.

Mr. Canter photographed every gig the band played on the Sunset Strip, from their first show together on June 6, 1985, to their first international tour as a newly signed act for Geffen Records. Luckily for the fans, Mr. Canter also had the foresight to audio and videotape every performance, leaving a well-documented legacy few bands can boast. Original gig memorabilia including show flyers, ticket stubs, set lists, press clippings, and hand-written song lyrics round out this unique collection. Reckless Road is “the best rock n’ roll book I have ever seen.” -Slash

I may not be an Axl fan and I am even guilty of talking trash about him on this blog, but I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Glad he made out alright. I may not be an Axl fan and I am even guilty of talking trash about him on this blog, but I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Glad he made out alright. Here’s the story as reported from Blabbermouth.net

“KCAL-TV (Channel 9), an independent station in Los Angeles, California owned by CBS Corporation, is reporting that GUNS N’ ROSES frontman Axl Rose has plenty to be thankful for this Thanksgiving weekend, but it was a close call. The wildfire in Southern California that left six firefighters hurt and destroyed dozens burnt the roof on his house and all around his expansive property. Rose’s assistant Beta Lebeis, who lives on the property, says the rock legend fought to save his home. “He helped a lot. He did a lot. He was with the hose everywhere,” she said.”

Well I guess that Sebastian Bach didn’t think his voice sucked enough on his new record so he called in another former excellent vocalist to help make it suck even more. Don’t get me wrong here. I love the old GnR and Skid Row. In their day they were two very unique vocalists but these days…eh..how you say?…not so good.

We all heard Axl Rose bomb on MTV years ago when he first debuted the braids (nothing like a 40 year old, pale irish dude in corn rows). It was supposed to be a big surprise…and it was, SURPRISE: GUNS AND ROSES NOW SUCKS. And we heard how awful Bach is these days from the VH1 Supergroup. Even if they really do suck on the recording, these days you can “Airbrush” if you will, with the technology. Cher is 98 years old and still sounds just as crappy as she did when she did “I got you babe”.

Perhaps Bach thought he needed someone to make him sound good on the record, I don’t know. All I know is that I’ll be spending my money on something more worth while like a The Wiggles Live tickets…or Guitar Hero III. Not sure yet…it’s a tough choice.

If you want to waste your time and read some lines from Axl himself about the collaboration then keep reading.

“Bas asked me to sing on his new record, ‘Angel Down’, and I agreed and came down to his studio where he played me the tracks. I really liked the title/opening track, ‘Angel Down’, but I didn’t feel that it would be right to be on that one, although, of course, it would’ve been cool because it’s a great rip-your-head-off track!!

“Since this session was rather a more fun atmosphere, the tracks I sang on kind of showed themselves and were also done out of curiosity on the part of Bas, myself, and his producer, Roy Z, just to see if my involvement brought something that worked for the tracks.

“Bas really wanted me on ‘Bitchslap, and I got to try my own ideas on it. We’re not saying much about the second track, as it may be taken a bit further, and when Bas played the third track, ‘Stuck Inside’, he suggested a kind of call-and-answer part. They allowed me the freedom to write my own words and melodies, and although it’s only a couple of lines, it really felt great. The song has such a mean riff, and Bas’ guys were so supportive in so many ways on tour and fun to hang with, that it was great to be a part of something of theirs and I think it really came out strong.

“For me, the three songs together are a good package. They are all different, with different approaches and styles from each other and from material I have on the upcoming GUNS N’ ROSES record. For me, the timing couldn’t be better and I’m quite surprised to be on one song, let alone three!!!

“Bas really knew where he saw my involvement on his album and had different options in mind. He knew what seemed obvious, what would be fun, what would work for his album and what he felt I would like. I really liked the energy of the tracks and since I’m rarely asked to do anything I’d actually enjoy or be glad to be a part of, I’m more than grateful for the opportunity and hope the fans get a kick out of it as well.”

Thanks to the Metal Den for the Axl words.
