That contest was easy to pick. The Answer contest was a bit harder. You guys all had great entries that had me laughing pretty good. Luckily I could pick 4 people for this contest. One grand prize winner and 3 winners of the Everyday Demons Album.

Grand Prize The Answer Discography Winner

Ragger: “What originally slipped into the ocean and tainted the smell of fish forever?”

Izzy: “What is the either choice of things Kurt could have sucked on that sad day in April?”

Here is a chance to win a 7″ vinyl from Black Tide, entitled Road Warriors. It contains two tracks, Warriors Of Time (Live) and their cover of Iron Maiden’s Prowler that has never been released.

Here is how you can win: Since the 7″ has an Iron Maiden “Cover” on it, let’s do this: Artist Derek Riggs has done countless artwork for Iron Maiden over the years. From tour flyers to posters to album covers, he’s been responsible for bringing Eddie to life in so many different ways. On every piece of his work he leaves his mark. For that average Maiden fan, we know what it looks like and have spent much time looking for it in every piece of Derek’s work. So here is a 3 part question that you must answer all of them correctly to win the prize:

Where on each of these covers can you find Derek Riggs’ “trademark symbol”?

1. Iron Maiden’s 1980 single cover for Sanctuary.

2 Iron Maidens 1980 single cover for Running Free.

3. Iron Maiden’s debut, self titled album cover.

Email the answers to metalmartyr.com@gmail.com with Black Tide in the subject line. Make sure there is no links in the email body or else Gmail may filter it as spam. If there are multiple entries that get right I will pick a winner at random. Good luck.

Contest limited to U.S. and Canadian residents only. Contest ends on April 30th.

Pamela Parosky from MetalUnderground.com recently interviewed Zakk Sandler from http://www.metalunderground.com/news/details.cfm?newsid=43561. Zakk seems to be the most open personality in the band. I’ve seen them twice as support acts and he’s the one that gets the crowd going and the one that sticks around afterwards to talk to fans.
In the interview he talked about the writing process for the next album, in brief.

Our last record doesn’t really transcend anything and doesn’t put out any message of any sort and, even within every song, most of them are pretty open to interpretation.
I think that’s what a lot people didn’t like about Light From Above. The music was cool and thrashy but the lyrics lacked a bit. I thought it was pretty good when it first came out, but I can’t remember the last time I listened to it. The guitars are good, Gabriel’s voice is good, but the lyrics are the bands shortcoming. There isn’t good substance. The album still sold well for a debut album, seeing that the label pushed the shit out of these guys. I’m sure the next album will be a more mature sounding record and better than the last.

The only really good thing about it is that I get to listen to a few cds all the way through. But seriously…nobody wants to hear me bitch about mowing the lawn.

Hatebreed has made available the full 22 song set from their Detroit filming session from the Live Dominance DVD. You can download it from iTunes for $9.99 HERE.

If you’re going to check out Exodus in Seattle on November 12th, plan on hearing the entire Bonded By Blood album played. According to the venue, El Corazon’s website, the band plans on playing the album in full during this tour date.

Daron Malakian doesn’t feel like his heart is in to touring right now, so if you had tickets to see Scars On Broadway or to watch them on Jimmy Kimmel Live, then you better get a refund and plan on watching something else because no plans to reschedule are in the works yet.

If you’re in to Tesla, their new CD comes out tomorrow and you can hear their entire record streaming today here. I’ll have a review up at The Rock Dose tomorrow. Never been big on them but Forever More is good album.

Metal Injection’s Rob kinda looks like Shrek…but then again I’m no Prince Fuckin’ Charming. Check out his interview with Black Tide here.

Tom from some blog that I have never heard of but obviously get’s better interview opportunities than I do, posted an interview with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich…you know… he’s that drummer dude that kind of talks funny. Check out that long-ass interview Here.

And lastly, I forgot to register to vote by the deadline, live a fool. But I’m still going to talk shit about the next President if he does a lousy job.

Alright. Vacation is over and I’m back home. Aside from going to the biggest concert I’ve been to in over 10 years, the rest of the weekend was a great time as well as the family and I went to the beach, the zoo, the aquarium and a Naval museum (No it’s not a museum of belly buttons). Just a word of advice for anyone planning a vacation and looking for hotels online. Check out Hotwire.com.
I got a room to sleep myself, my wife and kids in Norfolk, VA for 88 bucks a night at a Sheraton. It’s a 3 star hotel according to Hotwire, but it’s nice and that’s about 100 bucks less a night than you wood pay at expedia.com. Anyway, enough about that. Let’s get to some concert coverage.

Black Tide was the first band up on the Hot Topic stage and as usual they put on a great show. I noticed a new guitar player when taking the pictures and was later told by Zach Sandler, the bass player that Alex Nunez was replaced and he simply said because of differences. Although I was curious I didn’t pry and try to find out exactly what differences because what difference does it make.

Zach also remembered me from the Charlotte show when I interviewed them and I thought that was really cool. He seems to be the one with the most energy and out-going personality (by that I mean he’s not as shy as the rest seem to be). They played a great cover of Metallica’s Hit The Lights and I think the crowd would have liked them more had they not been the very first band. You’ve got to hand it to these guys. Right out of the gate they are thrown into Ozfest last year and then went on tour promoting their album with All That Remains among others and now Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest. That’s a lot of go-go-go for a first time run in the big leagues.
