Book Of Black Earth Touring With Cattle Decapitation

Book Of Black Earth are heading out on tour with Cattle Decapitation in support of their 2008 release Horoskopus. Cattle decapitation will be touring in Support of their latest album, The Harvest Floor, which was released this passed Tuesday. I’ll have a review of that coming soon enough. A lot of good stuff hits the stores today. New Eps, Albums and DVD’s. I also have a few things to run in review coming out later, like Mushroomhead’s Vol.2, which is really cool if your in to Mushroomhead and Vision Of Disorder’s Dead In New York live DVD of their very last show in 2002.

Gojira – The Way Of All Flesh (Prosthetic) Amazing. enough said. Get it!

Book Of Black Earth – Horoskopus (Prosthetic) If you like death metal and you like black metal or the blackened death metal than this is something worth picking up.

Early Man -Beware The Circling Fin (The End Records) Thrash throwback down a lot better than most of the bands doing it right now.

Book Of Black Earth | Horoskopus = Black Death Delight!

Genre mixing works pretty well these days. In almost any case you can mix two genres of metal and make it sound well. Except for Straight Line Stitch, they screw it up terribly. Mixing some genres are fairly easy. Black Metal and Death Metal fuse together pretty well and Book Of Black Earth give us a a tasty helping of it with their October 14th release, Horoskopus on Prosthetic Records.

With a demo, a split and one full length under their belt, Book Of Black Earth take it to the next level with their debut Prosthetic Records release. Book Of Black Earth are a 5 piece out of Seattle, Washington. The line up reads like this: T.J. Cowgill on guitar and vocals, Dav Tafoya on Bass and Vocals, Joe Axler on drums, Hank Guthrie (Not trying to knock the dudes name, but it sounds like a country singer) on keyboards and Tony Lombardi on guitar.

Dark rhythms and doom ridden bridges fill your ears with a black/death metal delight. It’s hard to make out the keyboards in the mix and the snare sounds a bit louder than almost everything else at times. Although its a flat “tinny” sounding snare, it doesn’t sound out of place. production almost sounds a bit staticy, but not in the Death Magnetic way, but in a good way. Over all Horoskopus sounds good. The rhythm doesn’t stay stagnant and it’s a good mix of tempos. Thick, low and heavy and the guitars aren’t overproduced. There are some really good break downs and the only thing that I think would make Horoskopus better is some really good, gut ripping solos.

T.J. Cowgills vocals stand on their own and each song tells a dark story. “Horoskopus is about hidden astrological eliments of the Christian church,” Vacalist/guitarist T.J. Cowgill says. “From it’s origins as a stats sponsored religion in the fourth century to the present day, it has been guided by astrological concepts conceived before Jesus Christ was mythologized as the ‘Sun’ of God”

Book Of Black Earth’s tour starts tonight in their hometown of Seattle and are touring with label-mates Withered and Black Metal veterans Watain during October on the Black Metal Magic Tour. You can hear the track “Funeral of Peace” on their Myspace page.

End Of Week Run-Down

Just a few things to close out the week. It’s been a hectic two weeks here but some good things have come about. This week has been a very busy run-around week and I haven’t been able to post as many good quality posts here. With the server issues finally being ironed out from the beginning of this month to the stupid pop-ups being fixed, this whole month has been kind of crazy. Not to mention both of my kids got sick last week so my hands have been pretty full. Hopefully next week things will run a lot smoother. Much more after the fold…

Death Magnetic was finally released and aside from all the trash-talk and anticipated disappointment, I actually kind of like most of it. I listened to it the other night from beginning to end while working. Still have a problem with James Hetfield’s vocals at some points and hate where some of the songs go after the first 4 minutes but it’s much better than anything they have done in a long time. I never thought I would actually like any new Metallica that would come out these days but every now and then I have to be truthful and admit when I’m wrong. It’s not some epic metal, but as I said, it’s better than most anything they have done in a long time and that’s more than most expected.

Finally got my review for All That Remains’ Overcome out and I can’t get some of the choruses out of my head, like the one in Chiron. A bit different from their last three but that’s a really good thing.

I got an advance copy of Tom Morello’s new Nightwatchman solo album to review at the rock dose. That’s a really cool album, nothing like anything Rage has done and Tom has a rather nice voice.

Also got an advance of David Gilmour’s Live In Dansk, Poland that is simply amazing. If you dig Pink Floyd or live Pink Floyd you might want to check that out when it hit’s the stores. Richard Wright, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd died on Monday from cancer. He performed on the CD/DVD as well.

I never did get around to posting my reviews for Prosthetic Record’s artists Antagonist and Book Of Black Earth and I just received Gojira’s new album The Way Of The Flesh in the mail today. So far that’s a really cool album too. Chances are if you like Gojira and From Mars To Sirius you’ll like The Way Of The Flesh. I’ll try to get those reviews up by mid-week.

I picked up Amon Amarth’s 2004 release Fate Of Norns. I’m not feeling it as much as With Oden On Our Side, but it’s still a good album. Also picked up Suffocation’s latest release on Relapse Records. If you’re in to good brutal deathmetal/Grindcore You’ll probably like that as well. Check it out sometime.

AC/DC has been kickin’ ass on the charts with a lot of their older stuff and with their new/old DVD ‘No Bull’

BOOK OF BLACK EARTH posts new song from ‘Horoskopus’

Seattle’s BOOK OF BLACK EARTH has posted a new song, “Funeral of Peace,” from the band’s forthcoming album on the band’s MySpace page. Due out Oct. 14 through Prosthetic Records, ‘Horoskopus’ is BOOK OF BLACK EARTH’s second full-length, and debut for new home Prosthetic Records. Pre-orders have also begun for the album on both vinyl and CD editions here.

“‘Horoskopus’ is a concept album about the hidden astrological elements of the Christian church,” vocalist / guitarist T.J. Cowgill adds. “From its origins as a state sponsored religion in the fourth century to the present day, it has been guided by astrological concepts conceived centuries before Jesus Christ was mythologized as the ‘Sun’ of God.”

BOOK OF BLACK EARTH consists of members of venerable metal underground band Teen Cthulhu, as well as drummer Joe Axler of Skarp, Splatterhouse, and Iamthethorn, among others. Having already released a self-financed demo in 2004 and a split release with underground legends Fall Of The Bastards in 2005, 2006’s ‘The Feast,’ received praise from Decibel magazine, Terrorizer magazine, and the band’s hometown newspaper, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Meanwhile the band is gearing up for the Black Metal Magic tour, featuring Swedish black metal legends Watain and new labelmates Withered, including a string of headlining dates on the way out to the first date, Oct. 3 in Toronto.

BOOK OF BLACK EARTH will also be in-studio co-hosting with the KISW Metal Shop hosts, Steve Rock and Kevin, in Seattle this Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11pm – 2am. In Review: Book Of Black Earth, Antagonist and All That Remains

In the next day or so I’ll be posting reviews on three upcoming albums from the Prosthetic Record label.

First up will be All That Remains September 16th release, Overcome. I’ve been eager to hear this and I can say that I am very disappointed…that it’s not as long as I wish it was. “That’s what she said.” (I love The Office)

Next up will be Antagonist’s Exist due out September 30th. after that I have Book Of Black Earth’s Horoskopus due out October 14th.

WATAIN taps WITHERED, BOOK OF BLACK EARTH for Black Metal Magic Tour this fall

Prosthetic Records labelmates WITHERED and BOOK OF BLACK EARTH are proud to announce their involvement in the upcoming Black Metal Magic Tour later this fall supporting Swedish black metal titans Watain. The tour, sponsored by Metal Maniacs and BeyondTheDarkHorizon.com, will begin in Northeastern Canada in early October, head to the West Coast, then wrap up in early November in Pennsylvania.

WITHERED will be supporting the band’s recently second album, ‘Folie Circulaire,’ which has yielded critical acclaim since its June release. Recorded with Kylesa’s Phillip Cope and featuring artwork from Paul Romano (Mastodon, The Red Chord, Trivium), the album is the band’s eagerly-awaited follow-up to 2005’s ‘Memento Mori.’ WITHERED will be playing a free Los Angeles show sponsored by SCION and Vice magazine along with Today Is The Day in August as part of Scion’s Metal Show series. Prosthetic Records is proud to announce the addition of Seattle’s death/black metallers BOOK OF BLACK EARTH to the label’s roster. Catching the label’s eye while on a West Coast tour with future labelmates The Funeral Pyre in late 2007, BOOK OF BLACK EARTH consists of members of venerable metal underground band Teen Cthulhu, and are currently in the process of writing material for the band’s second full-length, having already released a self-financed demo in 2004, a split release with underground legends Fall Of The Bastards in 2005, and 2006’s ‘The Feast,’ which received praise from Decibel magazine, Terrorizer magazine, and the band’s hometown newspaper, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

“We are all very excited to work with Prosthetic Records and the people behind it, we feel like this is a good step for us as a band and a good home,” drummer Joe Axler says. “BOBE is currently finishing writing for our Prosthetic debut which will be titled ‘Horoskopus,‘ and entering The Red Room Studios in Seattle this week to start tracking with producer / engineer Chris Common (Mouth of the Architect, These Arms Are Snakes). This is by far our most technical, heavy and challenging set of songs to date. It’s definitely pushing the envelope for us, which we stand behind, and will make this record the most brutal one we have written.”
