I’ve said that this is one of my least favorite Lamb Of God album and I still stand to that, but my dislike for this album is gone. I hated this album the first time I heard it. Maybe it was because I was on more of an Ashes Of The Wake kick and this just doesn’t compare to that album. Maybe it’s the vocal difference that I don’t like as much as the newer albums. I got that feeling with Burn The Priest as well. Since Burn The Priest, Randy’s vocals have grown in to a deeper, more comprehensible scream with each album.

I listened to the new Lamb Of God track, Contractor after posting the tune-widget news. A that was done I selected New American Gospel to play next. For what reason I honestly have no idea because I have not really liked it since I bought it. I went back to working on something else but soon after had to check iTunes again to make sure I was playing what I thought I was playing. I was really digging New American Gospel. From Black Label to the Flux demo track (Bonus tracks) I was diggin it all. Even after that though I started listening to Burn The Priest, which I NEVER listen to. I was really liking that as well. It’s just odd how you can utterly despise something one moment and then go back to it later on down the line and really be in to it.

Rating Your Favorites Segment 2 | Lamb Of God

I haven’t been a fan of Lamb Of God for very long now. It just started last summer. I had heard of L.O.G. a million times and even sampled some of the cd’s briefly at FYE but sometimes you don’t get a good listen on the listening stations. Not only that but Randy Blythe’s vocals can be an acquired taste. I didn’t really get interested until I heard Laid To Rest. What really got me was the guitars and the slightly off beat rhythm of the song. Anyway, here is how I rate my Lamb Of God collection.

Ashes Of The Wake – Every song on this album are killer. No two ways around it.
As The Palaces Burn – The 11th Hour, Boot Scraper and Blood Junkie, just to name a few. This in my opinion is their second best work.
Sacrament – While this album is a bit more catchy, you can hear how Randy’s voice has evolved and is a brilliantly engineered sounding recording.
New American Gospel – Lamb Of God’s debut with their “New Name” is one of my least favorite because even the re-mastered version leaves some production value to be desired.
Burn The Priest – Lamb Of God’s first record with their original name gives you the band in their most raw form. I included this album because after all…it’s still Lamb Of God.

With every album you can see how the band has improved their form and sound. Call them what you want, Lamb Of God is a hard working American metal band that purely kicks ass. With a new 2 disk DVD coming July first called Walk With Me In Hell through a distribution deal with RoadRunner Records , I’m really anticipating another cool dvd. Killadelphia showed the good, the bad, and the ugly of the band on the road.

Metal Martyr Personal Top Ten

Its that time of the month again and the b5 Music channel is publishing the top tens of each channel. I decided to kind of do my own thing and list the top ten songs I’ve been listening to lately and the top ten cd’s I’ve been diggin as well. So far in 2008 I’ve tried to expand what metal I’ve been listening to. Exploring new bands and even sub-genres like Black Metal that I normally talk a lot of trash about. Sometimes you come to like the things you previously disliked and you have to take it with a grain of salt, swallow your pride and enjoy it. So this is what I’ve been into lately.

Top Ten Songs

Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse – Dimmu Borgir (I love the symphonic aspects of this band)
One By One – Immortal (One of my new favorite Black Metal Bands)
Angel’s Don’t Kill – Children Of Bodom (My favorite from Hatecrew Deathroll)
And Death In My Arms – All That Remains (This entire CD is awesome)
The Eagle – Light This City (One of many great songs on Facing The Thousand)
Dethharmonic – Dethklok (It’s Dethklok, nothing more to say)
In My Darkest Hour – Megadeth (This Song Never Gets Old…never!)
Believe In Black – Hail!Hornet (This is the band that turned me onto the souther sludge metal)
Skulls – The Misfits (I’m always liking older Misfits tunes)
God Luck And Good Speed – Weedeater (Another Southern Sludge Pioneering band I’m getting into)

Top Ten Cds

20 Years Of Nuclear Blast, this is a must! 20 years of Nuclear Blast bands on 4 cd’s. Jam packed with kick ass metal. Hands down the best label anniversary compilation

Children Of Bodom – Hate Crew Deathroll A new favorite of mine. I don;t know how I went this long without getting into Children Of Bodom.

Light This City – Facing The Thousand I said before that I have never been a big fan of female vocals in the metal genre, but Laura Nichole works well as does the rest of the band.

Dethklok – The Dethalbum I wasn’t sure what to think when I heard about this show, but when you hear the music you instantly fall in love with it all.

Dimmu Borgir – In Sorte Diaboli I’m still not a big fan of the gimmick behind Black Metal but I have come to love the sound and Dimmu Borgir Mix the symphony with the devil’s music…and it’s cool!

All That Remains – This Darkened Heart I can not say enough good things about this band and honestly a lot of you are probably tired of hearing me talk about them…be prepared for more.

Testament – The Best of Testament When I picked up this one I was just ashamed that I went this long without listening to Testament. Sometimes It’s amazing how you miss a band like this for so long.

grief of WAR – A Mounting Crisis Another new overseas favorite. Japan’s grief of WAR are phenoms at bringing back the old school thrash sound. Nothing polished and painted pretty here. Just thrashing.

Burn The Priest I haven’t the slightest idea why I have been into this one as of late. The vocals are incomprehensible but the music rips!

Yakuza – Transmutations Versatile Chicago metal artists Yakuza bring the metal and a whole lot more. Jazz and metal would normally not mix well…except when done by Yakuza!

Metal Shavings Thanksgiving Edition

First off I would like to wish everyone that is celebrating the holiday a Happy Thanksgiving. I had a rough day yesterday as I was feeling a bit crappy from a flu shot I got last Saturday. That’s why I didn’t post anything yesterday, but I’m feeling much better and ready to get back on track with a vengeance! So lets go…

There is still about a week left to get your name into the Megadeth Warchest Contest, only 16 entries so the odds are looking pretty good so far.

Lamb Of God, Long Over-Due Part 2

So you know how I commented awhile back on how I wish I had got into This band awhile back? Well after buying Ashes Of The Wake, I wanted more. I ordered Sacrament online and it was taking some time to get here so in the mean time I bought As The Palaces Burn and just today I bought New American Gospel. While I can tell you that I enjoy Palaces, the production value of Gospel is quite disappointing and it’s making it difficult for me to really like it.

On a better note I also received Sacrament today and I’m 7 songs into it and I love every bit of it. Some bands evolve into crap and some evolve in amazing pieces of art…Lamb of God is that amazing piece of art that you stare at with your ears. The guitars and drums are such a great mix, nothing over-powers the other like so many bands these days. Randy, D.Randall or whatever you want to call him has developed his voice to a beautiful sound of bunnies being raked across red hot coals and It’s awesome!

I think I’m going to stop here and be satisfied with my Lamb Of God collection until their next release. It may be better not to try to reach any further back like you can do with some bands. So Ashes Of The Wake And Sacrament are my two favorites from LOG. Thanks Izzy for the advice for Sacrament, I’m really diggin’ it.
