Century Media- Cover 20 Years Of Extremes

November 21, 2008 by Scott

Century Media 20 Years Of Extremes Ok, who’s heard this and what do you think of this 2 disc set of Century Media bands covering Century Media Bands? I like cover songs….done right, but I expected a lot more from this album. I think they might have been able to do better with an All Stars type go around or a 4 disc set like Nuclear Blast put out.

My first thought…some good some bad. Here are a few of the goods, bads and meh’s in my opinion.

  • Good: Arch Enemy covers Dream Evil’s Book of Heavy Metal
  • Bad: Warbringer covers Unleashed Execute Them All
  • Meh: Firewind covers Nevermore’s Believe In Nothing (Not as good as I hoped)
  • Good: Intronaut covers EYEHATEGOD’s Dixie Whiskey
  • Bad: Manntis (Featuring In This Moment) Covering Lacuna Coil’s Heaven’s A Lie
  • Meh: Wolf Cover Moonspell’s Alma Mater

Century Media: 20 Years Of Extremes

October 14, 2008 by Scott

Century Media 20 Years Of Extremes Century Media celebrates 20 Years Of Extremes (music) by releasing a 2 cd compilation today (Oct. 14th). The 2 cd compilation is actually Century Media label bands covering…well, other Century Media label bands, past and present. You can check out the track-list below. Look for a review in the near future. You may have heard Firewind’s cover of Nevermore’s Believe In Nothing a few weeks ago at the Century Media Myspace. Now you can listen to Aborted covering Termoil’s "Playing Dead" on the Century Media Europe Myspace. I saw Aborted live during the Carcass Reunion show and they put on a really good live set and their studio sound is sick. 20 Years Of Extremes is fairly inexpensive at about $13.99 retail. No sign of it on iTunes yet

Old School Review: Grave ‘And Here I Die…Satisfied’

September 29, 2008 by Scott

Grave And Here I Die In 1996 I was on my way back to Quantico Virginia from upstate New York during my 4 years in the Marine Corps and I decided to stop at a mall in Utica, NY to see what the record store had. I bought a cd that I had been looking for (I think it might have been Misfits Collection 1 or 2) and had a few more bucks to spare so I picked up a 6 song EP from a band that I had heard of but never heard. The name was Grave. How could you go wrong with a name like that. The name of the Ep was “And Here I Die…Satisfied“.

Earth Crisis Reunite. The World Is Saved

September 10, 2008 by Scott

Earth Crisis Gamora's seasons ends I bought Earth Crisis Gamora’s Season Ends back when it came out in 1996. It was a different sound like the rising of Korn and Nu-metal. At first I really liked it but it faded fast and I never followed that band again. Not only that but I started hearing about straight edge violence and people that weren’t straight edge being jumped by hardcore straight edge  kids that thought they were doing some good by being a bunch of pricks. I lost a lot of respect for the straight edge scene. Not only that but I got tired of the “Meat is murder” anthems.

Last year they reunited and went on tour and now they have signed a deal with Century Media. I may give them a listen sometime and see if their sound grows on me again, but I won’t be running off to buy tickets to a show.

Divine Heresy Still Looking For New Vocalist

July 16, 2008 by Scott

Repost From Century Media Newsletter:

Despite parting ways with their former singer, devoting time to their ‘Master Class’ YouTube series and the occasional concert brawl, DIVINE HERESY is still in the market for a new singer! Could it be you? The first thing you need to do is hop over to DH’s MySpace page by clicking below and download some instrumental tracks.

After you have learned the songs, just record your vocals over the tracks and send them to Divineheresyband@aol.com along with a bio, any possible photos and contact information. Your vocals should be organic – that means NO ProTools, gang! The band will be making a decision soon as they begin to write their sophomore effort and will be playing a handful of Mexican and South American dates in August.

In case anyone hasn’t read or heard it elsewhere, Tommy Cummings (Vexx) is singing for reunited Snot almost 10 years after the death of front-man Lynn Straight, who died in a car accident December 11, 1998. I liked Snot, but I liked a lot of Nu-Metal and I still don’t hate it today. But I really don;t know how they’re going to sound with Tommy Cummings, it just sounds like a weird mix to me..

Firewind Premonition…I HATE it!

June 21, 2008 by Scott

premonition I know what your thinking. Here goes this guy hating another band that is really good. Well I have good reason. I hate Firewind’s Premonition because I can’t stop listening to it! From beginning to end, I love this record. Even the bonus track cover of Michael Sembello’s Maniac. Somewhere Punky Brewster is rocking out to this song right now.

firewind When I saw them perform on the Tyranny and Bloodshred tour earlier this month I wasn’t sure what to expect because I had only heard Mercenary Man when they played it on Headbangers Ball. If you dig good clean metal or Power Metal, than this is a band worth checking out. The band is simply amazing and great live performers and they were really cool after the show too. That’s when I picked up The Premonition and I’ve been looking for Allegiance and their other earlier cd’s with no luck. I guess have to order online. If you haven’t checked out Firewind yet, do so! I can’t believe I never heard of them before now.
