But anyway, that’s cool and good for them because The Formation Of Damnation is a great album. Now if you wonder how they won just take a look at the bands they were up against. Bullet For My Valentine, Children Of Bodom, Down and Atreyu. The only band that in my opinion had a chance is Children Of Bodom, with the release of Blooddrunk.

Quite the endorsement for the latest offering from Bay Area thrash pioneers Testament, whose ninth studio album, Formation of Damnation, is slated for release on April 29th. The proper follow-up to 1999’s deafening fan-fave The Gathering, Damnation features the original Testament line-up of vocalist Chuck Billy, guitarists Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick, and bassist Greg Christian, with the addition of friend and former member, Paul Bostaph. Picking up where Testament left off at the end of the last century, Billy and company offer up some of the vintage breakneck anthems that landed them in the company of Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica and Anthrax. Continuing to cement their legacy as one of the finest bands thrash has to offer, Damnation’s title-track is a scorching siren of intensity and fury. See for yourself below.

In other news, the band is currently touring across North America in preparation for the album’s release. San Juan Capistrano is next up on the band’s itinerary, before a stop in Vegas and a string of Hollywood dates. Then in early May, Testament hits the road again to celebrate The Formation of Damnation.

Wormwood Chronicles: What was it like in those times? It seems like a legendary period in history?

Chuck Billy: Well, there were a lot of parties. Everybody was pretty tight with each other, there was a lot of camaraderie. Everybody was young, it was a new scene. METALLICA was up and coming with their sound and they sort of gave the Bay Area scene the flavor it had. They played a lot of New Year’s parties and a lot of gigs at their house. It was a time when everybody was close and the same people were at the same shows and the same parties all the time.It was this whole community that was really cool.
