Mastodon performed their song “Divinations” from Crack the Skye last night (Oct 29) on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. In my opinion live metal performances on talk shows/live TV always end up sounding like shit, and this one is no exception… and since Jimmy Fallon has had several metal bands performing on his show lately, maybe it’s time to get a decent sound technician?

Mastodon Is Zune Ignition Artist For April

Mastodon Crack The Billboards At #11

Mastodon’s Crack The Skye landed on the billboard charts at #11, selling 41,000 copies almost doubling what Blood Mountain sold in it’s first week. I really can’t say enough good about this record, accept that I had to put it away for a week or so, so I don’t make myself get sick of it. If you haven’t bought it yet, spend the extra couple of dollars and get the deluxe edition with the DVD.

Mastodon To Stream Hometown Release Party Show Online

Tomorrow is the big day. Crack The Skye gets it’s official release and Mastodon will be holding a release party in their home town of Atlanta, Georgia. Here is the press release.

MASTODON will take part in an in-store signing session and performance in Atlanta , Georgia on Tuesday, March 24 at 8:30 p.m. at Criminal Records. The band will be promoting their new album, Crack the Skye, which hits stores this week on Reprise Records. The set will also be streamed live on the Mastodon’s Ustream channel and then archived on their official site for those people who miss it.

So far it seems that Crack The Skye is either a love it or hate it album. Personally, I love it and unless there are like 7 other amazing albums that come out this year that can top it, it will definitely be in my top ten for the year. I really don’t see that happening, but it’s still early in the year.

Mastodon: Crack The Skye, What Are Your Thoughts?

You’ve had the chance to listen to Mastodon’s entire new album since Monday and all the songs but one have been on the torrent sites for a few weeks now. Now that you’ve had a chance to listen to it, what are your thoughts? Do you like it, do you hate it? What do or don’t you like about it?

Personally, I love it. It’s a bit different from Blood Mountain and a lot different from Leviathan and Remission. I know a lot of people don’t like it, but I like Brent’s vocals. That’s what really turned me on to the band when I heard more of Brent’s vocals on Blood Mountain. So what are your thoughts on the new album?

To give you more time to think it over, here is the epic Divinations video that should get nominated and possibly win Mtv’s video of the year.

Here it is, the first video and single, Divinations, from Mastodon’s upcoming album, Crack The Skye. I would say that this is your typical Mastodon video. Weird, kind of cheesy…but in the way that Mastodon makes it so awesome.

Oblivion is such an epic (”epic” is way over-used these days) opener for Mastodon’s upcoming album, Crack The Skye. The way it leads in to the first verse and then the chorus. The chorus will have you humming, singing or screaming it for hours on after you hear it.

Learn the lyrics, because you’ll be playing this song over and over like March Of The Fire Ants, Blood And Thunder or Colony Of Birchmen.

Mastodon North America Tour Dates

Mastodon are rolling out across the states on April 10th in support of Crack The Skye and word has it that they’ll be playing the album in it’s entirety. They’ll also be playing smaller venues that usual. In support will be Intronaut and Kylesa, who’s album Static Tensions drops next week. I’ll have more on that in the near future. Again, there will be people that will be disappointed with Crack The Skye but there will be fans that will truly appreciate the grandeur of the musical aspect of the album. If you preorder the digital album on iTunes you will be able to download the opening track Oblivion (You’ll be charged for the single and charged the remainder when you download the rest of the album). Oblivion is an great opener to this mind-blowing album! Tour dates after the fold.

A Few Things On This Last Day Of February 2009

Holt crap! One down, 10 to go already. I have a feeling this year is going to fly by faster than 2008. Today I’m supposed to be in Atlanta Georgia covering Scion Rock Fest. Due to my desire to move back to upstate NY I have decided that I need to save some money for the big move and going to Scion Rock Fest would put a big dent in my savings.

Lamb Of God

The new album is out and in case you haven;t picked it up yet, spend the extra dollar and buy the deluxe edition that comes with “The Studio Experience”. The Studio Experience is just like the Sacrament tour edition that comes with the individual tracks to play with on various recording programs. Have fun with it.

God Forbid

I can’t get over how much I love this new Earthsblood album. You can save a few bucks by checking to see if your local Wal Mart is carrying it. I got mine for 9 bucks there. It also comes with a live cd from The Starland Ballroom in NJ. Don’t think I’m kissing these guys asses for whatever reason, this album is just that good in my opinion. I have no affiliation with God Forbid or Century Media.

Mastodon

I’m kind of upset because I’m going to miss Mastodon at Scion Rock Fest. The new album is an amazing progress and it’s just what they said it is, more of a classic rock feel, but in a great Mastodon way. After hearing it I decided that I haven’t heard nearly enough Mastodon so I downloaded Leviathan, Remission and Call Of The Mastodon on iTunes. I probably could have used that money for Scion, but damn. I have Blood Mountain and just never got around to giving the other album a good listen. I’ve tried before but I have to stop sampling from listening stations in FYE because they really suck and don’t give you a good feel for the music. I’ve been missing out on these great Mastodon albums. I’ll get more in to Crack The Skye closer to the release date.
