Dee Snider Joins March of Dimes Bikers for Babies(R)

Popular Event Enters Its 17th Year

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Dee Snider, best known as the front man for the 1980s heavy metal band Twisted Sister, is taking on a new lead role this year as Honorary Chairman of March of Dimes Bikers for Babies. The cause is personal: two of his children were born prematurely, and he’s leading the pack to help other babies be born healthy.

Snider is also a radio personality, television host, author, voiceover artist, screenplay writer and actor. He has adopted the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies as his charity of choice. After riding with the Connecticut Chapter of the March of Dimes for three years, Snider saw a need and created and chaired the event that carries his name — Dee Snider’s Bikers for Babies on Long Island, N.Y. That was six years ago. “I’m honored to be a part of these events and proud of their success in raising funds to fight premature birth,” he says. Snider will personally participate in three upcoming events: they are in Alabama on Oct. 11; St. Louis on Oct. 12; and in Las Vegas on Oct. 25.

He also appeared last week on Fox’s TV show Kitchen Nightmares, riding an autographed motorcycle donated by Lighthouse Harley-Davidson of Huntington Station, New York, which will be auctioned to benefit the March of Dimes.

As part of his ongoing fundraising for the March of Dimes, Snider will be raffling off a custom-designed bike in January 2009. The proceeds will go to Dee Snider’s Bikers for Babies on Long Island, N.Y.

On the future of TWISTED SISTER: “It’s not the focus of my life anymore. Last year we did seven shows. We’ll do festivals or something like that, and we’ll put on the makeup and costumes and we’ll go the whole nine yards and give the people what they want. One thing they don’t want is new music.

If we go, ‘This one’s from our new album!’ you see hundreds of people standing up and walking out of the room. KISS put out their ‘Psycho Circus’ record in 1998, and it didn’t sell! The fans don’t want KISS 2000. They want ‘Rock and Roll All Night’. So we have no illusions about that. We will continue until the spandex explodes. There’s bad news and good news — bad news is on stage we look like a bunch of aging drag queens — the good news is we’ve always looked like aging drag queens!”

The next part I got aggravated with was how Dee Snider was talking about how back in the 80’s every band was putting a power ballad on a record like it was a standard. Dee, I love ya man but there was nothing wrong with that. Even the hardest of the metal-heads has to show their softer side every now and then. “The Price” may not have been about love per-say but it was a power ballad. Even though it was not what sold Stay Hungry, it was a cool song.

It’s amazing how cool yet stupid the world of music is. I wanted to say the world of metal but it’s not just metal. You have stupid people, hypocrites, and talentless tail riders in every type of music. It also amazes me on what some channels consider metal. Metal Mania on VH1 Classics has some garbage on there. I turned it on and there was Alice Cooper, who is a great showman, but not Metal I don’t care how much make-up and snakes you have. Anyway, it was the song “Man Behind The Mask” from the Friday The 13th Part 6 sound track. It was all corny and full of synthesizers. I was kinda embarrassed for him. Nothing like seeing a decrepit old man in make-up trying to rock out to such a terrible anthem like song to an even worse movie. I need to remove that package from my Directv Subscription.
