About two and a half years ago I was driving down the street when I see something off of the side of the road. I stopped hoping that it’s one of those cash bags that a pizza delivery person might have left on top of their car on their way to the bank late at night and maybe it slipped off and it’s full of cash. Unfortunately it wasn’t. What it was, was a caselogic book full of cds. Unfortunately it was full of a bunch of garbage with the exception of Tool’s Undertow, A Perfect Circle’s Thirteenth Step and Disturbed’s The Sickness.

Tool and A Perfect Circle I can really dig, but Disturbed has never done anything for me. They put on a good show at Mayhem Fest last year, but that was about it. While I was out yesterday I started rummaging through the console of my car and found the Disturbed CD. I figured “What the hell”, and put it in my cd player, thinking that maybe it might grow on me like other bands have. I can try to be open minded about things like this every now and then. My wife got back in to the car and I started to drive down the road and was about 3 songs in to the cd. I violently pressed the eject button, put the passenger-side window down a tad and flung that bastard out the window to ensure that I would never make that mistake again.

First, who really designated what kind of music red or blue, Democrats or Republicans listen to? That’s the biggest crock of shit I think I’ve ever heard concerning politics and music. Secondly, I think he’s pissed cause there’s sand in the Vaseline and Disturbed didn’t win the Grammy. Dude, you guys were up against Metallica. They could have released an entire album of heavy breathing and still would have won the Grammy. If you went to the Grammy’s expecting to win while going up against Metallica, then you went for the wrong reasons.

I had some reservations about taking him along because he can get kind of restless and doesn’t like to be out in the heat very long. I can’t blame him, I don’t like it much either. He was really good though. I told him to stay close and walk fast and he did both. He was a trooper that day and I’m very proud of him. It was his first metal concert and he said he had a great time. Something he can tell his friends about. He wanted to see Dragonforce and I tried my best to get us back over to the main stage in time but with Machine Head playing and Mastodon signing right afterwards, time was tight.

By the time we got back to our seats Dragonforce was on their second to last song and went in to Through The Fire And Flames. I gotta say for the 10 or 15 minutes I got to see them play, it was pretty good. I don’t know if I would have like to see their full 40 minute set though. We tried earlier in the day to get a picture of my son with the band but they didn’t stay at the Roadrunner tent very long before moving on so the picture at the top was the best I could do.

Dragoneforce finished up about 10 minutes early and Disturbed came on about 10 minutes early. They rolled David Draimen out on a hand truck like Hannibal Lechter. Facemask and everything. I thought it was a pretty cheesy start. After all, I was not really looking forward to seeing Disturbed play. I only like a handful of their songs, I don’t own any cd’s and I normally don’t have anything good to say about them.

Disturbed put on an amazing show. They played all the ones I expected to hear, even the Genesis cover. The crowd was in a frenzy, fists and horns pumping, people singing along to every chorus. It was quite a show and I was quite impressed. Does this mean I’m a new fan that’s going to going to run out and buy all their cd’s, find me a big ole pair of those ‘nu-metal pants’ and start kissing their ass and talking about them and posting every bit of news I see on them. No. It was a great show and that’s all there is to it. ON a side note, if you read in the Scrap Metal Report, their bus carrying their crew and some equipment blew a tire and ran down an embankment in South Carolina, sending one crew member to the hospital and shaking up the rest of the crew, but they still got up to VA beach the next day and made sure the band was ready to go.

The Cavalera Conspiracy has been deemed inappropriate for Priestfest in Australia and New Zealand, so any dates they had with Judas Priest in those two countries have been canceled.

Metallica announce an official date for their Death Magnetic release of September 16th, The same day as All That Remains release their 4th album, Overcome. The ‘World Wide’ release date is the 12…so I’m sure it will be available for illegal download by the 13th.

In other Metallica news, it sounds as if the band is truly dysfunctional and it has been said that they often stay in different countries and hotels when touring Europe. They say it’s to avoid fighting and they fight often in the studio. This is obviously the problem that has plagued them for the last 20 years. If you can’t get along with your band mates and you’re always fighting then it’s time to move on and stop sticking around to keep the bands name rolling and the dollar signs flashing. That truly shows that it’s not about the music and completely about money.

Scars On Broadway had an unbelievable first week of sales for their release at around 25k. I haven’t hear this yet and I’m really not interested. Some say it’s great and some say it’s not as good as Serj Tanakians ‘Elect The Dead’. Either way…

On Thursday one of Disturbed’s crew busses blew a tire and ran down an embankment on I-95 in south Carolina on their way from Florida to VA Beach Mayhem Fest. No band members were on the bus but one crew member had to be taken to the hospital but no one was seriously injured and they still got everything up to VA beach and set up.

Judas Priesthad as saying Jesus Christ! with Nostradamus While it wasn’t the Priest we know, it was a concept album that I don’t think anyone was really ready for. Great musically, but unlike Priest.

Motley Crue graced us with an album that had me wanting a small part of my life back. That part being the time I spent listening to the Saints Of Los Angeles.

Slipknot released a free single in the title track of their upcoming album All Hope Is Gone. A lot of people are looking forward to the release of the new Album, to include myself. If you want the single now you will have to buy it…or download it from someone else who already has it.

Metallica announced the new titleof their upcoming CD will be Death Magnetic and hopefull it won’t be Crap Magnetic and I did my own spin on it before hand.

TriviumAlso announced the title of their new cd, Shogun…do-mo arigato Mr. Roboto!

Himsa anounced their last show and their disbanding.

Testament won Album Of The Year at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards

Light This City anounced that they are calling it quits and disappoint a shitload of people.

I started adding Metallica vinyl reissues to my collection even though I talk so much trash about them.

I gave a little piece of advice to Artist that try to retaliate against Blabbermouth trash talkers.

I took on a new Blog in The Rock Dose, a rock themed blog. Check It out some time.

I held a voting poll to see what people thought was Metallica’s Best Realease…it was almost scary!

Kiss says they are going to keep the marketing torch a blazing with an all new line-up of band in the future.

Twisted Sister announce they are taking the show to…BROADWAY?

Lastly, Disturbed released Indestructiblewhich sold a crap load of cd’s. I think people were pretty surprised that so many people actually dug them…or maybe it was The Dillinger Escape Plan that bought them all up?

That was about the important stuff that went on this month here. I hate going back through things and finding spelling and typing errors, but hell, I’m only human. I can’t wait to see what July has in store for us. Keep an eye out for a new contest for Metal Martyr’s 1 year anniversary!

If they gave Guitar World permission to do it then I question Iron Maiden’s credibility, but I doubt that’s the case and I also doubt they needed permission. I don’t think Dan Donegan is a bad guitar player at all. I just don’t dig this mockery (Or tribute whatever they want to call it) of a classic Iron Maiden work of art. It’s overwhelming how much great metal 2008 has brought so far, and it’s only bringing more! Here are some of my picks this far into the year and some anticipated stuff.

Favorite 5 Albums of 2008 so far

Cavalera Conspiracy

Firewind – The premonition

Testament – The Formation Of Damnation

Children Of Bodom – Blooddrunk

The Sword – Gods Of The Earth

Black Tide Light From Above get’s an honorable mention

Most Anticipated Albums To Come

All That Remains – Overcome

Slipknot - All Hope Is Gone

The Acacia Strain – Continent

Light This City (No title yet)

Best Album that went under the radar

Byzantine – Oblivion Beckons

It’s a shame they disbanded.

Albums I’m Ready To Be Disappointed By

Metallica – Death Magnetic

Trivium (No title yet)

I’m really hoping the Metallica album is good, but I have hoped that since 1990. The way Trivium is talking, I don’t know what to think of this upcoming release. I wasn’t a big fan until The Crusade. Call me crazy but it was great to hear a band that actually sound like Metallica should.

Albums that I’m already disappointed by

Judas Priest – Nostradamus

I’ve only heard about half of disc one and I’m really not feeling it…we’ll see. I’ll do a better review of the album later on.

Albums I Refuse to Buy

Disturbed – Indestructible

Not a big fan and the new single annoys the shit outta me!

Best Lesser Known Band

Soldiers Of Scrape

Check ‘em out! Soldiers Of Scrape Myspace

Unsigned Bands that Deserve a good record deal

Absolute Vengeance

Blood Loss

There may be some things I forgot but these are a few that I could think of off of the top of my head. Remember, these are things that I have liked. I’m not discrediting any other bands besides the ones I already did on the list, which was very few. I said it before and I’m saying it again…2008 is a great year for metal.
