Gojira Tour The UK In March

Gojira have announced dates for a UK tour in March. Gojira will be headlining this tour in support of The Way Of All Flesh. Dates are below the video of All The Tears No word yet as to who will be in support.

All That Remains Will Try To Make Up For Canceled Shows

All That Remains had to cancel the remainder of their tour dates with In Flames, Gojira and 36 Crazyfist due to Phil Labonte having some throat issues. No bands like to cancel shows and there is no sense in trying to continue if the front man is going to sound like garbage and hurt himself more by trying. All That Remains want to make it up to the fans that didn’t get to see them. I think this is a pretty nice gesture but it’s kind of far off. Here’s is an update from their Myspace:

Hey Everyone,

We are so bummed we had to cancel. We cant wait to reschedule these shows and we promise to make it up to you. We’ll try to come up with a cool way to make it up to all of you who went out expecting to see us play and couldn’t. For everyone who bought a ticket to the In Flames shows that we were unable to perform at bring your ticket stub to the next ATR concert in your city and we will give you a free tour shirt while supplies last.

That’s cool and everything but most of the people that wanted to see them won’t be able to see them again for awhile, until at least after April and there’s no guarantee that they will be booked at the same place or close for that matter. Maybe, kind of , sorta if you don’t lose your ticket stub and while supplies last you might get a T-shirt. Good effort, but I think a mail-in offer would be a much better way to go. Set it up ATR & Prosthetic!

Even if you didn’t get to see ATR though, you still got to or get to In Flames and Gojira…and 36 Crazyfists I guess. That’s a pretty cool show if you ask me.

Top 10 Metal Albums Of 2008

2008 has been a great year for metal. Here is my Top 10 Favorite Metal Albums of 2008 (that I own). I know that there are probably a lot of other amazing metal albums that came out this year but I can only go off of what I own and what I’ve heard. So more or less these are my favorites and not some definitive collection of what I think is the best. How many people can honestly say that they have heard and thoroughly listened to every new metal album that came out this year? Anyway, let’s get to it.

All That Remains Cancels 2 Shows

All That Remains posted a bulletin yesterday on their Myspace announcing that they will have to cancel two of shows on their tour with In Flames, Gojira and 36 Crazyfists. One of those shows was last nights show in Tempe Arizona and the other date is tonight’s show in Albuquerque New Mexico. This is what was posted on myspace:

Hey guys, we unfortunately had to cancel off the Tempe and Albuquerque shows. Phil’s vocals are in rough shape to a point where singing will not be possible. Luckily the doctors say he’ll be better shortly and we’ll be back in gear for Denver. See you soon.

Unearth Sells Well, While Gojira…Not As Good

Unearth landed themselves on the Billboard 200 with their first weeks sales of The March clocking in at just under 11,000 copies. This placed them at #45, while France’s Gojira didn’t do so well with their second album on the Prosthetic label, The Way Of All Flesh only selling around 4,200 copies. I thought The Way Of All Flesh would sell much better considering the buzz around this band and the response that their previous album, From Mars To Sirius, received. While 4,200 was still pretty good and enough to land them at #138 on the Billboard 200, it still seems to me that it would have sold more with all the people on the Internet praising them. However, it’s still early on, so with some touring this album could end up selling much better. If you haven’t checked out The Way Of All Flesh, I highly recommend it especially if you like From Mars To Sirius.

Today’s Metal Releases 10/14

A lot of good stuff hits the stores today. New Eps, Albums and DVD’s. I also have a few things to run in review coming out later, like Mushroomhead’s Vol.2, which is really cool if your in to Mushroomhead and Vision Of Disorder’s Dead In New York live DVD of their very last show in 2002.

Book Of Black Earth – Horoskopus (Prosthetic) If you like death metal and you like black metal or the blackened death metal than this is something worth picking up.

Early Man -Beware The Circling Fin (The End Records) Thrash throwback down a lot better than most of the bands doing it right now.

Gojira: "The Way Of All Flesh" Reviewed

Gojira’s latest release The Way Of All Flesh goes hot on October 14th. The Way Of The Flesh picks up where From Mars To Sirius left off…and then some. It should definitely quench the hunger of the fans that have been waiting for what seems like an eternity for something new since 2006. What’s great about Gojira is that they have a unique sound to them. They don’t sound like every other band on the market today and their messages are positive through negative words. Where from Mars To Sirius was a conceptive album based around the environment and how we are killing the Earth slowly through mass consumption like a parasitic life-form, The Way Of All Flesh speaks of the eminent death of mankind by our own hands through greed and destruction of this beautiful rock we live on. frontman/guitarist Joe Duplatier describes the album as follows:

It’s more inventive that From Mars To Sirius and at the same time more straight to the point,” The whole album is about death, death is like a step on the path of the soul. The mystery surrounding this phenomenon is just so inspiring, and death is the most common thing on Earth.”

“This album is also a ‘requiem’ for our planet,” he continues. “We don’t want to be negative or cynical about the fate of humanity, but the situation on Earth is growing critical, and the way of humans behave is so catastrophic that we really need to express out exasperation about it. It’s not fear, but anger. But we still believe that consciousness can make a difference and that we can change things as human beings.”

The musical value of ‘Flesh is amazing. You can hear 10 of the 12 songs from the CD over at Gojira’s Myspace so I’m not oignt o sit here and do a track-by-track review. However, the very first song, Oroborus (Which is not on myspoace yet) has a quick lower note fretboard pull-off riff to it with Mario Duplantier working the crash bell and an overall cool fist-pounding way about it. The other song that is not up there is Vacuity. This was the very first song they made available on Myspace, and while it’s not my favorite, it’s a pretty damn cool song as well that starts off with a slow, sledge/doom riff with a thick chorus. Vacuity then picks up with some triplets and some blast-beats that I’m not too big on. My favorite song on the CD…ok, my two favorite songs on the cd are A Sight To Behold and Adoration For None. A Sight To Behold has this groovy electronic feel to it and Adoration has guest vocals by Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe. How can you so no to that?

Swing on over to Gojira’s Myspace and listen to 10 of the 12. The new Myspace Player only allows 10 songs right now. (Damnit, Tom! Get your shit together!) You won’t be disappointed. The Way Of All Flesh will be released on October 14th through Prosthetic Records.

One of the top 5 of 2008 for sure!

Too Much Metal. Is There Such A Thing?

As of late I have found myself with way too much metal to listen to. Whether it’s a review of a yet to be released cd, to just a new CD I bought. Sometimes it becomes overwhelming for me to try to keep up with everything and some newer stuff gets over-looked.

Between trying to get my review up for the new Gojira The Way OF The Flesh CD to Beneath The Massacre’s Dystopia that I just got in the mail, I find almost little time to get in to one thing before moving on to the next. I don’t expect myself to be able to keep up with everything as well as catch up on some cool metal that I have missed out on in the past decade or so. I’m not complaining, I’m just saying. Sometimes it’s tough to pace yourself and not forget about the last thing you were listening to when something new comes along and with the way good bands have been releasing CD’s this year it doesn’t make thing any easier. I planned on getting a review for Gojira up over the weekend but I took it easy. The Way Of The Flesh review will be posted tomorrow for sure.
