Century | Black Ocean
April 5, 2008 by Scott
Prosthetic Records is an awesome label with a lot of really great bands on their roster. They have sent me various cds to review in the past and I have really dug every cd and band…until now.
Century’s Black Ocean arrived in the mail the other day and I was excited to hear it. When the music started playing it was cool. It was very heavy and relentless on the ears. I thought “This is great”…and then the vocals hit. As any metal fan, I’m very picky when it comes to vocals and If I don’t like the vocals …read more

Sourvein Frontman "T-Roy" Medlin Exclusive MetalMartyr.com Interview
March 17, 2008 by Scott
The other day I was on MySpace and sent T-Roy (Troy Medlin), the frontman for Southern Sludge Metal madmen Sourvein a rewuest for an interview. But if you don’t know T-Roy then you wouldn’t know that this guy has a lot going on. Also the singer for Hail!Hornet, Blood Of Saints and also involved with a slew of other bands.
Southern Sludge Metal? Yeah, that’s what it’s called in these parts. Southern Sludge is a dirty raw sounding kind of “Doom” style sounding metal that is not for everyone and takes a bit getting used to. But once you start …read more
Metal Martyr Personal Top Ten
March 3, 2008 by Scott
Its that time of the month again and the b5 Music channel is publishing the top tens of each channel. I decided to kind of do my own thing and list the top ten songs I’ve been listening to lately and the top ten cd’s I’ve been diggin as well. So far in 2008 I’ve tried to expand what metal I’ve been listening to. Exploring new bands and even sub-genres like Black Metal that I normally talk a lot of trash about. Sometimes you come to like the things you previously disliked and you have to take it with …read more

I have dumped a bunch of money into CDs this past year, probably more than I have in a long time. I have discovered and re-discovered bands that I’ve been missing out on and was even introduced to new music by record labels that sent me CDs to review (Thanks Bob at Prosthetic and Taylor at Dwell). While most of these albums didn’t come out in 2007, 2007 was the year I bought them and therefore; the first list will be my Favorite Buys Of 2007. The second list is a short one. It’s my favorite Debut records of 2007. …read more
December Give Aways Galore!
December 14, 2007 by Scott
In the past month I’ve been kinda networking with some record labels. You’ve seen some press releases that I have posted for them and sometimes they send me CD’s to review. So now that I’ve reviewed them, it’s time for me to pass them on. Also I have a few things I am giving away out of my own pocket. Keep in mind all of these are used in new condition.
What Are You Listening To?
December 4, 2007 by Scott
It’s been awhile since I’ve done this and this always helps me find out what others are listening to, what I may be missing and what I should maybe cover a bit more. Here’s what I’ve been into as of late.
All That Remains, I’m really diggin Phil Labonte’s vocals and over all this band is pretty cool.
As I Lay Dying. I just picked up Shadows Are Security after Oceans Between Us impressed me.
Hail!Hornet. Dwell Records sent me this to review and at first I didn’t like Troy Medlin’s vocals, it kinda grew on me and I can’t stop listening. Simply …read more
CD Review: Hail!Hornet
November 20, 2007 by Scott
Hail!Hornet are a newer band, but the members are not new to the game. Featuring members of Alabama Thunderpussy, Weedeater, Sourvien and Beaten Back To Pure. Hailing from the south, Hail!Hornet are a four piece band raining down sludge metal at its best…kind of. As if we needed another genre, they have self proclaimed their sound Grime-Metal. This about explains everything. Nothing clean cut about this recording. Everything is raw and in your face. Simple riff and simple beats. Don’t get me wrong, simple is good.
