You’re Not Hardcore Unless You Live Hardcore: Overuse Of The ‘Core Term
February 7, 2009 by Scott
This post has been a long time coming and was kind of birthed from yesterday’s article, “Has Metal Succumb To Trend Whores?“. There used to be a day when the word Hardcore meant something in terms of music. These days it’s broken down in the form of different genres by bands that have no clue about what really is “Hardcore“. People think Hardcore is a genre of music when in reality it was a way of life, a subculture.
Hardcore stemmed from Hardcore Punk. The hardcore genre came from kids in large cities like D.C., NYC, Boston, Chicago, L.A., …read more
Has Metal Succumb To Trend Whores?
February 6, 2009 by Scott
That’s kind of a stupid question and I think we all know the answer, right? I mean there have been posers since the beginning and there are always people that want to be a part of what is deemed “cool” at the moment, but it seems things have changed since I was younger. It wasn’t “cool” to like heavy metal when I was in high school. It wasn’t cool to wear a metal T-shirts with profanity or gore on it and it wasn’t cool to like much of anything but top 40 crap. If you liked metal music or …read more

The Demonstration In Raleigh 6/26
June 27, 2008 by Scott
Kill Whitney Dead, Carnifex, The Demonstration, Dance Club Massacre and Salt The Wound were in Raleigh, NC last night kicking off their tour. The bands I really went there to see was The Demonstration and Salt The Wound. I got there kind of late towards the ass end of Salt The Wound’s set. They sounded good. The only thing I didn’t care for and this is something that is a person preference of mine is that I don’t like when distortion effects are used on the vocals. However I understand that if that’s your thing then roll with it.

Minor Threat | The Complete Discography
In the early 80’s a lot of metal bands got some influence from punk and hardcore bands. One of the greatest hardcore bands, though a lot of people would argue that they are more punk than hardcore are Bad Religion and in a sense a lot of punk was hardcore. Telling of life on the streets, broken homes and speaking of not letting society get them down. Another hardcore band that was a straight edge hardcore band was Minor Threat. Minor Threat while not the most technical was an amazing band in their era and wrote some great tunes …read more
Old School Review: Slayer’s Undisputed Attitude
December 26, 2007 by Scott
Slayer’s Undisputed Attitude came out a couple of years after Divine Intervention, an album that I still to this day don’t care for. Released on American Recordings in 1996 Undisputed Attitude wasn’t a cover album that you would expect to hear, especially from Slayer. You know Slayer always does awesome cover songs, it doesn’t matter what the song it. They could take Billy Ray Cyrus’s Achy Breacky Heart and Make it cool.
