The Flood – Interview With Vocalist Chris Johnson

Chris Johnson, vocalist for The Flood, was kind enough to take some time and answer a few questions for Metal Martyr. The Flood recently wrapped up their 2009 SnoCore tour dates with Static-X and is currently working on their debut album with multi-Platinum, Grammy award winning producer Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down, Johnny Cash, Smashing Pumpkins).

Eric: Hey Chris, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions. First, could you tell us about The Flood? What’s the meaning behind the band’s name?
Chris: We’re a four piece band.  Ajay Marshall on guitar, Jeff Eason on bass, Nate Minick on …read more

The Flood Recording with Sylvia Massey Again, Unleash Video for ‘The Flood’

After wrapping up their 2009 SnoCore tour with Static-X, The Flood is going back to the studio. Often compared to Tool, Deftones and Korn, The Flood hail from Seattle, Washington, and are preparing to finish up their debut full length album. The Flood is signed with indie label Deify, who have put the band in the studio to record with multi-platinum, Grammy winning producer Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down, Johnny Cash, Smashing Pumpkins) at her Radiostar Studios in Weed, CA. The highly-touted video of the song “The Flood” (directed by Hans Kuester) has …read more

Lil’ Wayne’s ‘Prom Queen’ Video Features Members Of Korn…Um, Yeah.

Lil’ Wayne’s ‘Prom Queen’ Video Features Members Of Korn…Um, Yeah.

Having Korn in this video doesn’t really make it metal or even metal news for that matter, but wtf? Yeah, they’re in there somewhere. I figured I’d be a whore and attempt to use it to get some extra page views. Hey, times are tough all over and sometimes you have to sacrifice a lamb (my self respect) in order to get what you need. Here is Lil’ Wayne’s Prom Queen video featuring members of Korn.
I guess Lil’ Wayne figures that he has dominated the Hip Hop genre long enough, so why not try rock. All I can say to …read more

Korn Taking A Break, Not A Hiatus. Sounds The Same To Me.

Korn Taking A Break, Not A Hiatus. Sounds The Same To Me.

A lot of people are saying “Good” and perhaps it’s for the better. I haven’t followed Korn much if at all since Follow The Leader. It seemed to be growing stale since then with the exceptions of a couple of cover songs they did since then. Perhaps when they start to get things rolling again they can bring something fresh to the table.
Jonathan Davis recently told The Pulse Of Radio: “We’ve been going 15 years, and we need to just chill out for a while,” he said. “And you know me, I got to keep playing, I got …read more

Headbanger’s Ball Playlist 8/9

Headbanger’s Ball Playlist 8/9

Last week I kind of slacked due to the fact that I was on vacation with my family and it really wasn’t on my mind. Here is this weeks HBB play list. Not the greatest list. The Hatebreed video will be on the upcoming live DVD, The gates Of Slumber video is kind of a cool, sledge, doom song (Kind of reminds me of Devon Townsend) and the Dragonforce song is from their upcoming Ultra-beat off cd. The Straight Line Stitch video is better than the last one but I still don’t like this band. I have always loved …read more

Davis Of Korn Wants Head

Davis Of Korn Wants Head

Don’t we all, but what he wants is original Korn guitar guru, Brian “Head” Welch back. In case you’ve had your head (No pun intended) up your butt for the past two years. Brian Welch in a nut shell left Korn, found Jesus, got sober and wrote a book. With the departure of Munky it will only leave Davis and Fieldy as the founding members and once it gets past that it begins to get redundant. Here is what Davis had to say.
“I’d love Head to come back. The door is always open. It’s gotta be the right …read more

Heavy Metal Poisoning…What Would You Recommend?

Heavy Metal Poisoning…What Would You Recommend?

When it comes to the basics of Metal there are the staple foods of heavy metal that everyone should experience. If I was to recommend some bands the a metal newcomer that is new to the music and has had his/her interest peaked by a band or two, I would recommend the basics. The basics being like I said the “staple food” of a head banger. Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest Iron Maiden, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Danzig, etc., etc. However I would also recommend some not metal artists Like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd just to give the person …read more

“Head” Case

“Head” Case

So Brian “Head” Welch kicked his meth addiction and found God. Good for him. He’s selling a book, telling his story and in the meantime Korn gets a bit of bad publicity from it but it’s not effecting the band or the fans. This is a case where he is going to be scrutinized for his sudden spirituality. Let’s not go the wrong way with this. Suddenly every metal fan wants to call him a sheep, a phony and/or a hypocrite because suddenly he’s “using” Jesus to sell his story.

A Big “Cover” Up

A Big “Cover” Up

In some news lately, Korn revealed that they are going to be working on a cover album. Cover albums are great because we all love to hear our favorite bands covering other people songs…but why does it seem that bands tend to put out cover albums when all else is in the crapper?
