Dave is done with drums (nailed it on the second take!), and I finished guitars yesterday and got vocals in the bag. Phil comes in tomorrow, then Adam, then it’ll be mixed and mastered by the end of the week. Mike Sloat has been documenting, so we’ll probably have video snippets up when the whole thing gets closer to release. We also just announced our sole U.S. headline date on November 6 in NY, so FUCKIN’ A!!! Come make a road trip to N.Y. for some raging metal!!!”

In the wake of their Grammy-nominated album The Blackening, MACHINE HEAD faced harsh penalties for their lyrics, and shockingly, were banned from several Disney-owned clubs for what Disney concert promoters deemed “negative imagery,” “inflammatory lyrics” and “undesirable fans.”

MACHINE HEAD stood their ground, however, and went on to headline the Jagermeister stage on the Mayhem Festival, and just returned from a triumphant headlining spot atop this years  (20^th Anniversary) Wacken Festival in Germany to 85,000 people.  MACHINE HEAD guitarist Phil Demmel had this to say,

“We are extremely excited to announce our only U.S headline show this year, and to have it be in New York is going to be insane!!!”  Added singer Robb Flynn, “We really felt like doing something special for the U.S. fans to get ready for the Canadian Carnage dates.  What better place to do it than with our maniacal fanbase in New York!!!”

Formed in 1994 by Steev Esquivel (vocals, bass), former guitarist Mike Roberts and drummer Paul Hopkins, Skinlab took the San Francisco, CA Bay Area music scene by storm. Machine Head’s Robb Flynn took notice of the band, and helped them to secure their first record deal (Bound Gagged and Blindfolded) and sold out European tour.

After guitarist Mike Roberts left the band in 1998, Skinlab recruited guitarists Scott Sargeant (Killing Culture) and Steve “Snake” Green (Skrew) and unleashed their limited edition EP Eyesore soon after. In 1999 the band recorded Disembody: The New Flesh. A year and a half of touring came next, with Skinlab sharing the stage with the likes of Exodus, S.O.D, Fear Factory, the Deftones, Coal Chamber, Deicide, Entombed, and Napalm Death.

In 2003, Scott Sargeant left the band, and guitarist Glen Telford joined the lineup. With Telford onboard, the band recorded The Revolting Room. Their next touring cycle saw the band share the stage with such acts as Hatebreed, Superjoint Ritual, Arch Enemy, Soil, and In Flames.

After a four year break, Skinlab hit the road with the “The Face of Aggression” tour. This tour saw the band bring back it’s furious stage presence and ‘in for the kill attitude’, culminating with a June 3rd 2007 performance at The Oakland Metro. This intense performance was captured for a future DVD and live album release titled Skinned Alive.

Skinlab’s newest album, The Scars Between Us, will hit the streets on 9/15/09.

Frontman Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit stated via Twitter that he was shocked to hear that Machine Head was pulling out based on their inclusion in Sonisphere. Robb Flynn responded by way of The Frontlines with the announcement:

“We’re going to f’ng CRUSH Limp Bizkit!!!!”

While I’m sure that no one has any doubt that Robb is stating simple fact, share your opinions with me. Should Machine Head of pulled out in the first place? Should Limp Bizkit be on this tour? Are they even relevant anymore?

Phil Demmel collapsed on stage today during Machine Head’s last song at the Sonisphere Festival in Pori, Finland, but reports are saying that he is fine.

Phil stated to Sonisphere:

“Basically I want to apologize to all the fans for cheating them of their last song. I feel I short-changed the fans and really want to make it up for them, thanks for all the concern.”

Phil suffers from a rare condition called Cardiogenic Syncope, which causes the heart to have a sudden drop in blood flow, causing blackouts.

Monday, April 27, 2009 — Talk about a mind-blowing line-up.  Slayer and Megadeth – two of the bands that defined the thrash/metal genre – will perform together for the first time in more than 15 years when they co-headline four shows in Canada in late June.  The tour, dubbed “Canadian Carnage,” will also feature Machine Head and Suicide Silence, and will see Megadeth and Slayer each closing two of the four shows.  Tickets will go on sale Saturday, May 2, and will be available at all Ticketmaster outlets and at Ticketmaster online.

Machine Head Front-man Rob Flynn was interviewed by Shockhound recently. You can review that entire interview here. What I don’t understand and is the statement below where he said:

“30 year-old people don’t listen to fuckin’ metal. They really don’t. They’ve moved on with their lives, they get jobs, they get girlfriends, they listen to what’s on the radio. Kids are what keeps the scene alive;”

Seriously? I like Rob and Machine Head….but that’s the biggest bullshit statement I’ve ever heard. What keeps the scene alive is the people that don’t stop listening to metal beyond 30. Does this dude have any idea how many Machine Head fans are probably over 30 and have been following them since 94? Just because they don’t always make the shows doesn’t mean they aren’t there. I know plenty of people over 30 that still listen to metal. I’m almost 33 and I still listen to metal. Will I be listening to metal 30 years from now? I don’t know. I’d like to think so but who knows what metal music will be like in 30 years. I doubt if I’ll be headbanging and telling my grandkids about the good ole days of metal, but it’s something that will ALWAYS be with me.
