Here are a few pieces of metal news worth a mention that I don’t feel like writing full articles about.

Bravewords.com reports that The Dong Open Air Festival in Neukirchen-Vluyn, Germany on July 17th through the 19th, sold in in 4 hours. You can find out what bands are performing at Dong at www.dongopenair.de. I’m sorry, but my juvenile mind chuckles every time I say “Dong Open Air“.
Megadeth will be headlining America’s first Revolver Golden Gods Awards on April 17th in Los Angeles.
Metal Injection just premiered Rumpelstiltskin Grinder’s new video “Nothing Defeats The Skull” video. Check that out at MetalInjection.net. They also recapped their Scion Rock Fest experience.
Hatebreed will be filming the video for their cover of Slayer’s Ghosts Of War from their upcoming cover album, For The Lions. Hatebreed will also be performing at the Revolver Golden Gods Award show.
In This Moment’s Maria Brink will be on XM/Sirius Radio’s Playboy morning show tomorrow (March 10th, 2009). Maria didn’t pose in a nude pictorial, but she can be seen in this classy picture from Bravewords.com. You can learn more about the Plaboy Morning Show here.

Girls Of Century Media 2009 Calendar

If you haven’t bought a 2009 Calendar yet and you dig the girls in bands on the Century Media label then you might want to order this. In my opinion…it’s not all that great, but maybe it’s because I don’t really dig women with a lot of tats, especially on their arms or the typical tramp-stamp. Maybe it’s just because they all look really sleazy in this photo shoot. I like Revolvers Hottest Chicks In Metal issues better because they tend to look a little classier than this. Does anyone else find that Kristen Randall just looks…acckk in these shots. (check out the splash) I guess either Angela Gassow didn’t want to do it or wasn’t available. The calendar is limited to 1000 copies and costs $10.00. You can order the calendar here.

If you saw the latest issue of Revolver Magazine then you saw their annual Hottest Chicks In Metal III feature. Well now they are letting you see the pictures that didn’t make the cut at Revolver.com. The pictures in the magazine were very classy and nothing sleazy and I think it was very nice to leave something to the imagination.

Revolver June 2008 Issue | The Hottest Chicks In Metal III

The June issue of Revolver featuring The Hottest Chicks In Metal Part 3 is on news stands now. I’ve had some issues with Revolver for the last year or so due to the fact that sometimes they just blow my mind when they feature some not at all metal bands on the cover or as the main story of the issue. With that said, I can honestly say that the last three issues have been pretty good.

This months feature The Hottest Chicks In Metal, starring Marta of Bleeding Through, Maria Brink of In This Moment, Karin Axelsson of Sonic Sydicate, Kristen Randall of Winds Of Plague, Laura Nichol of Light This City, Lennon Murphy of Devil’s Gift, Lennon and lastly L.A. Ink’s Kat Von D. You may be asking “Why is Kat Von D there? She’s not metal.”, Yeah, me too. But she’s got a lot of tattoos, listens to a lot of H.I.M. and is dating Nikki Sixx so that must make her metal, right? All very attractive and intelligent ladies. I wish I could scan and post some photos but image use policies are very strict on our Blog network, sorry. Moving on to the rest of the issue.

There is a great write up on Iron Maiden and the Somewhere Back In Time Tour and Ed Force One. Testament talks about Formation Of Damnation and what led up to it and In Flames talks about the evolution of In Flames with their recent release A Sense Of Purpose. Soilent Green talks about their bad luck in the past few years with Katrina devastating their home town of New Orleans and their van crash in 2001. Those are about the highlights of this issue. EIC, Tom Beaujour talks about the main reason why Revolver does The Hottest Chicks In Metal issue every year and he is pretty blunt about it when he says because “we move a lot of unit”. Can’t blame them for that. Plus it’s always nice to see some of our favorite female metal stars looking sexy instead of screaming or headbanging…even though I’m sure there are people that find that aspect sexy, and that’s cool too.

So if you have $4.99 to spend and can stomach the usual crap like Atreyu and a bit about the garbage that’s infesting Taste Of Chaos this year then pick up June’s Revolver issue.
