I bet Andreas Kisser would love to be interviewed without being asked about Max Cavalera, if not just once. I would also bet that Max would love, just once, to be interviewed without being asked about a Sepultura reunion. In the excerpt below, MetalPaths.com interviewed Sepultura’s Andreas Kisser. I only quoted two of three parts where the Cavalera word was dropped.
Have you listened to the “Cavalera Conspiracy” debut album? Do you think that maybe one day will happen to co-operate again with Max and Igor?

I bet Andreas Kisser would love to be interviewed without being asked about Max Cavalera, if not just once. I would also bet that Max would love, just once, to be interviewed without being asked about a Sepultura reunion. In the excerpt below, MetalPaths.com interviewed Sepultura’s Andreas Kisser. I only quoted two of three parts where the Cavalera word was dropped.

Have you listened to the “Cavalera Conspiracy” debut album? Do you think that maybe one day will happen to co-operate again with Max and Igor?

I’ve heard the album, it is not bad but they could do a lot better. For what people was expecting, I think it is very weak. Who knows what the future will be? This is something we don’t think about, I am looking forward to see, respecting our past but working towards the future.

Jean Dolabella is a pretty good drummer though and has left the worldwide press with the greatest impressions and there is no need I guess to mention Derrick’s great work all these years. Was it difficult for you to find members who would perfectly fit to the band?

It is always hard to change a member, especially such great musicians like Max and Igor but we are lucky to find even better ones like Derrick and Jean. They are exceptional guys and musicians, who are helping Sepultura on every level.

This was a pretty good interview. I would love to be able to meet and interview Andreas one day. I missed my chance to see Sepultura with the classic line up back in 96, right before the split.

Read the entire interview at Metalpaths.com.

Max Cavalera’s Soulfly will be touring the United Kingdom with 11 dates scheduled so far in February 2009. Soulfly will be touring in support of their latest album, Conquer. Conquer in my opinion is Soulfly’s best album to date, with a more thrash feel to it than previous albums. If you liked the Cavalera Conspiracy but have not like past Soulfly albums you may actually like Conquer as it has a closer sound to Inflikted. Phoenix Arizona’s Incite will tour as support. Incite is fronted by Richie Cavalera, the step-son of Max Cavalera. Tour dates are below.

Conquer sounds more like a continuation of The Cavalera Conspiracy and less of a Soulfly album, but that’s a great thing. Max keeps the lyrics simple and lets us never forget how much he loves the word “fuck”, as he did with the Cavalera Conspiracy. The riffs are crunchy yet interesting and the solos are as always great from the fingers of Marc Rizzo. Max pretty much expresses his dislike for war…in every song. The theme is pretty much the same all the way through but it still sounds good. Touching the void is a cool slow groove and chop song with more instrumental than vocals and the last track, Soufly VI is a great soft instrumental arrangement. What is even better about this album is that it has very minimum of the tribal effects and such that every other Soufly album has. If you have any doubts, head on over to Soulfly’s Myspace and stream some of the new stuff. Max got his groove back, bitches!

Max said in a recent revolver interview back then “That was Sepultura” and went on to say that “Andreas and Paulo Jr. came later.” Perhaps I’m misinterpreting his words but he sounded pretty ungrateful for those two. To me Max, Igor, Paulo Jr. and Andreas was Sepultura. That was the most solid line-up.

I’ve got the double album Bestial Devastation/Morbid Visions and while it was a good album for the time, the good stuff didn’t come until Andreas and Paulo. Schizophrenia was the first piece of the monstrosity that Sepultura became until Max’s departure. I have Against, but was so disappointed with it that I didn’t buy anything else after that.

The Sepultura of today is not Sepultura. The last little bit of light died when Igor left. You can’t really carry on a name like that after every founding members are gone, even if I said that Andreas and Paulo were a strong part of it. It’s just not the same. It’s kind of like Jerry Only’s Misfits. I don’t think I need to elaborate on that.

Max said perhaps they will reunite when Armageddon hits, jokingly. He said it’s possible but there are no plans for it right now. Come on, Max…make some plans. Inflikted was amazing, but I want MORE!!

You don’t hear a whole lot about Andreas these days…sometimes some Sepultura news here and there but it just doesn’t feel like Sepultura anymore and as I said before, I stopped listening after Against. Listen to Arise, Listen to Chaos A.D.. Those were the days of Sepultura. Beneath The Remains and Schizophrenia are great records too but I like the sound of the guitars a lot better on Arise and A.D.

The Cavalera Conspiracy coming out next week I think is going to sound a bit closer to Sepultura than Soulfly and I think that’s why I am digging Sanctuary so much.

I said it once and I’m going to say it a thousand more time. Max, Igor, Paulo and Andreas. Bury the hatchet get back together if only for a reunion tour and maybe a new cd. Come on….you know you really want to.

When Soulfly Debuted I really liked it. These days I can’t stand it. I don’t know why either. I bought Against only because I was hopeful for the new Sepultura and I didn’t hate it but it’s not a memorable album like Arise or Chaos A.D…In fact now that I think about it I can’t remember one song off of that record. Looks like I gave up back then. To date I have yet to buy another Sepultura or Soulfly cd since the two I mentioned a second ago.

In a recent interview Max stated that the time he has spent with Igor has been great and it just feels right. He also said that he handled the split with Sepultura the wrong way and he realizes that now that he is older. What I can say is this. Max, you’ve taken the first step by getting back and making music with your brother. It’s time to take the next step and contact Andreas and Paulo. We don’t necessarily want a new record right away, just a kick ass reunion tour…and then a new record. C’mon, Max. Swallow your pride, wash your hair and give the fans what they Really want.
