You know what I love about Dave Mustaine? He is such a perfectionist. While most of the time I say “Leave well enough alone” he knows how to take his old work and make it better. But how can you take a song like In My Darkest Hour and make it better? I thought the same thing until I heard the remastered version on the Megadeth Warchest.

The beginning of the song is different. The way it starts, the way it sounds. The reverb is more define the guitar is cleaner, Jr’s bass sounds more define and everything about the song seems reborn and even more amazing than the first time you heard it and marveled in it infinite greatness.

I hate to compare (Or do I?) Metallica and Megadeth because both have written so many great songs but this is by all means the epic defining moment where you see what Metallica lost by firing Dave. Metallica have a lot of great songs as do Megadeth, but Dave has the ability to write one every now and then that stands out from all the rest like a turd in a punch bowl. Songs that are burned into your memory for years.

When I started the Warchest contest I saw people over and over say Tornado Of Souls, and honestly for a long time I have forgotten about Tornado Of Souls. This sparked my interest in the song again and I had to hear it again all the way through and really listen and I’ll be damned…this song brings back memories of my first car. A 1979 Plymouth Volarie. Such a piece of shit car that I used to rock this song out to back in ‘93 on my way to work as a dishwasher in a small town restaurant With the Sony Disc-man and the car adapter kit, a shitty carburetor and no A/C. My friend and I shoplifting cassette tapes from Fay’s drug store…those were the days! (While these days I don’t approve or condone shoplifting we all have stupid moments in our lives that we look back upon and regret.) but it was fun…til I got caught. Thats changed a lot of things.

I have had some great opportunities to review some great CD’s and bands and will have some good press releases and updates in the months to come and hopefully I can work some special things into the mix.

Tomorrow is the big day! The Megadeth Warchest Giveaway Day is finally here and I can’t wait to do the drawing and announce the winner. If you haven’t already enter go here and do so! I will be announcing the winner at 9pm US eastern standard time November 30th!

December is coming and with that comes the end of year prize pack. I’ve got a bunch of cd’s in it right now and I’m trying to add what I can and see what else I can throw in there.

The Metal Martyr sound track was kinda cool, didn’t get rid of as many as I thought I would and I have not heard back from the ones I sent one to except for one person…so what the hell does that mean?

Free Download Friday started last week and I’m trying to get something in the works right now…but I’m waiting on word from the top to see if it’s possible…we’ll see and I’ll break the news as soon as I know something.

So its been hyped a lot and for good reason….It’s Megadeth. The days of box sets has changed. You no longer get every disk or close to it in box sets like you used to. There are a few out there that have that kind of stuff in it like The Misfits Box Set and others but some of those cost a bit more. The Slayer box set was cool, however disappointing. So with the Slayer box set a disappointment I prepared myself for this. While the Megadeth Warchest is a cool design with a lot of great information in its book, the rest of it is just alright.

Most of the songs are songs you probably already have on disk if your a long time fan and the rest is a bunch of demos and live tracks with a few audio interviews with Dave Mustaine. I shouldn’t talk badly about a Contest prize I’m giving away but I think this was rushed to be put together and more time went into the design of the package then the contents of the cd’s and DVD. Would you rather me Bullsh*t you and lie, or would you want the straight facts that I normally feed you?

The DVD is just that…a live DVD of a 1992 show in England, nothing really special. All this doesn’t change the fact that I’m still a big fan and I will be sad when I mail this off to the winner of the contest. I will be happy however to pass this on to someone who just may appreciate it more than I do. Fans are harder to satisfy these days and I say that because I am hard to satisfy when it comes to metal. I just wish more bands would put out box sets like the old where you would get just about every track from the band and you would sit back and listen in complete satisfaction.

I’m still a huge fan and always will be!

This is awesome, I don’t know if I’ll be able to afford it when it comes out but we’ll see. I just hope I’m not as disappointed with it as I was the Slayer Box. Anyway, read the release notes from blabbermouth.net

” The artwork for MEGADETH’s upcoming box set, “Warchest”, has been posted online at this location. The 4-CD+DVD collection features more than six hours of digitally remastered content, hand-selected by Mustaine, including 30 audio and video tracks making their global release debuts, and an additional three tracks that have never before been released in the U.S. “Warchest”’s October 2 release caps Mustaine and Capitol/EMI’s in-depth MEGADETH catalog remastering and restoration campaign, which has encompassed the band’s Capitol studio albums, while also adding new audio and video collections to the band’s arsenal.

Armed with digitally remastered career-defining album cuts, soundtrack and compilation sides, unreleased live and studio performances and interview clips spanning more than 20 years, “Warchest” is the ultimate MEGADETH compendium. Included in the trove are a full 75-minute live set from a night on the 1990 “Clash of the Titans” tour and a DVD of highlights from a 1992 stop supporting “Countdown To Extinction” — two historical shows, both making their release debuts on “Warchest”. The set’s custom “vac-u-form” packaging showcases a 3-D ammo belt on its front and a 36-page booklet with an essay by Ian Christe and a comprehensive discography, complemented by an array of photos and images.

Dave Mustaine says, “This is, by far, the best and most comprehensive look at all-things-MEGA if you had to get a crash-course in metal! With some of the most famous, and infamous, shows and any of the fluid, or flammable, line-ups, listening to this box set when it was all done was an adrenalin surge. I have got to hand it to my past band mates, they played great for how turbulent times could get in the blink of an eye, and I absolutely love every moment of this collection.”
