Has Metal Succumb To Trend Whores?

Has Metal Succumb To Trend Whores?

That’s kind of a stupid question and I think we all know the answer, right? I mean there have been posers since the beginning and there are always people that want to be a part of what is deemed “cool” at the moment, but it seems things have changed since I was younger. It wasn’t “cool” to like heavy metal when I was in high school. It wasn’t cool to wear a metal T-shirts with profanity or gore on it and it wasn’t cool to like much of anything but top 40 crap. If you liked metal music or …read more

BRING OUT YOUR DEAD!!!

BRING OUT YOUR DEAD!!!

The plague in metal grows by the minute. It’s an epidemic that’s getting worse than the bird flu, SARS or even the Ebola virus.
A friend (Martin) and I went to a local show last night here in North Carolina to check out the band Seneca that recently got signed to Lifeforce Records. It was at a very small venue but due to it being a Sunday and Thanksgiving weekend it was very dead. Maybe 30 people in the place and that included members of the 5 bands that were playing. Oh yeah, There was three karate moshers. Well two …read more

Back To The Future: The State Of Heavy Metal And The Record Industry

Here is an older post I wrote almost a year ago. It was about the record insustry and about all the metal/metalcore bands that are out there. My views on a lot of bands has since changed but I still feel there is so many damn metal or metalcore bands rather, that sound the same. Sure it’s a catchy, heavy mix of metal and hardcore but most of these bands wouldn’t know a real hardcore band or a hardcore way of life it it was shove up their asses. I can’t say that I know what it’s lie to grow …read more

The Demonstration In Raleigh 6/26

The Demonstration In Raleigh 6/26

Kill Whitney Dead, Carnifex, The Demonstration, Dance Club Massacre and Salt The Wound were in Raleigh, NC last night kicking off their tour. The bands I really went there to see was The Demonstration and Salt The Wound. I got there kind of late towards the ass end of Salt The Wound’s set. They sounded good. The only thing I didn’t care for and this is something that is a person preference of mine is that I don’t like when distortion effects are used on the vocals. However I understand that if that’s your thing then roll with it.

As I Lay Dying: "whether they’re a Christian band or a Satanic band. We want to play with those bands"

As I Lay Dying: "whether they’re a Christian band or a Satanic band. We want to play with those bands"

Way Too Loud recently interviews As I Lay Dying’s Drummer Jordan Mancino. They discussed everything from his new handle bar mustache, shooting videos and touring with satanic bands such as Behemoth. Here are a few excerpts.
WTL: Well, since the first new thing I’m noticing is the handle bar mustache, you’ve got to explain that. It’s huge! You look like a Hell’s Angel!
Jordan: (Laughs) I was growing a beard in December, and then we had a photo shoot for DW ( the drum company), and I didn’t want a beard for that, so I shaved it into a moustache …read more

xDEATHSTARx

xDEATHSTARx

I was scanning through CD Warehouse today looking for something new and interesting, neither of which was easily found due to the massive amount of crap this place has. I was looking through the “D’s” to see what Danzig or Dream Theater CDs they had and I came across xDEATHSTARx ‘We Are The Threat’ on Facedown Records. Curiosity got the best of me so I asked to sample it. xDEATHSTARx is nothing new (been around for 6 years) or epic but they have a cool hardcore sound to them as if they got a lot of influence from Hatebreed. …read more

Gwen Stacy…WTF?

Gwen Stacy…WTF?

What do you get when you name a band after an ex-girlfriend of Spiderman? I’m not sure…but I do know that when this video came on Headbangers Ball last night I was like “I really don’t like this”. That was the point where I stopped watching. Everything else on the playlist was not worth watching in my opinion. The good stuff like In Flames, C.O.B. and Death Angel had already played. Not to mention the classic T.S. video. I said the other day that the Demon Hunter song was starting to grow on me…I got annoyed with it last night. …read more

End Of March Metal Meltdown

The month of March was quite interesting. A lot of great things happened for me and a few great CD’s came out this month. I gave away some cool prizes and the first batch of the MetalMartyr.Com Compilations went out as well. Below is a list of links to some of this months posts that I think are worth a re-run.
