Tune Into the Grammy Awards

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards air Sunday night (January 31st) at 8:00 pm with several great performances. The classic “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” will be sung by Mary J. Blige and opera’s Andrea Bocelli to help with the Haiti relief efforts (you can purchase the song on iTunes and all proceeds will go to Haiti). Also performing are the Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, the Dave Matthews Band, Green Day, Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga, Maxwell, P!nk, and the Zac Brown Band.

Metallica Fans Riot

A Metallica concert in Chili turned ugly this week (January 27th) as fans rioted at the venue. During the riots a policeman was injured and 120 people were arrested.

Police said that the arrests took place because hundreds of fans without tickets rushed the venue and tried to force their way in. The detainees were arrested for a variety of counts – including disorderly conduct, drug possession and drinking in public, police said.

This isn’t a great week for news regarding Metallica. News came out earlier this week that the remains of a girl who had gone missing from their October concert were found (At the time Metallica asked fans for support in finding her). Morgan Harrington, a 20-year-old Virginia Tech student who disappeared from a Metallica concert, was discovered in a remote hayfield just 10 miles south of where she was last seen.

The Big Four: Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer Sharing the Stage in 2010

The show that everyone has been wondering about for months is actually going to happen.

Metal legends Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer (known as “The Big Four“) will be sharing the stage together for the first time in history. The Big Four are confirmed so far for Sonisphere Poland and Czech Republic, with more Sonisphere appearances planned.

Lars Ulrich (Metallica) states:

“Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal’s big 4 would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time…what a mindfuck! Bring it on!”

Slayer’s Kerry King adds:

“It’s about fucking time this happened, and about time the fans finally get what they want. This is fucking awesome.”

Scott Ian of Anthrax agrees, commenting on the enormity of the announcement:

“People have been talking about these four bands playing together since 1984. That’s twenty-six years of expectation!!! And the thing is, I believe not only will we live up to the expectations, we will shatter them!! No other four bands as influential as the four of us have ever done this. Imagine if The Beatles, Stones, The Who and Zeppelin had done shows? Or Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Motorhead? Well, I may be getting into some rarified air here but as a fan, that’s how big I feel this is.”

These four legendary acts broke out of the underground thrash movement to dominate the metal world in the 1980s, selling millions of records and packing arenas across the globe. The metal giants have never before all shared the same stage, despite huge demand. But on 16th June 2010, METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX will take to the SONISPHERE stage at Bemowo Airport, Poland, to make the dreams of headbangers the world over become a reality. A second Big Four appearance is planned for SONISPHERE CZECH REPUBLIC three days later, with more SONISPHERE shows featuring the awesome combo to be announced in the coming days and weeks.

Metallica is Determined to Make Guitar Hero Wii Suck

Metallica has issued an update regarding the missing Death Magnetic songs from the Wii version of Guitar Hero. I hope Hitler doesn’t hear about this.

Metallica states:

“If you’ve been playing Guitar Hero on the Wii, you may have noticed that we were short a few songs when it came to ‘Death Magnetic’ – well no more! Our friends at Guitar Hero have been working long and hard with Nintendo so that Wii fans can now play the eight ‘Death Magnetic’ songs not previously available for that gaming system.

“Starting November 24, additional tracks from ‘Death Magnetic’ will be available as downloadable singles for 200 Wii points each. If you’re keeping score, that would be ‘All Nightmare Long’, ‘That Was Just Your Life’, ‘The Day That Never Comes’, ‘The Judas Kiss’, ‘The End Of The Line’, ‘The Unforgiven III’, ‘Suicide & Redemption J.H.’ and ‘Suicide & Redemption K.H.’ Enjoy!”

Metallica Asks for Help to Find Missing Virginia Tech Student

I know that just the other day, I relentlessly mocked Metallica’s Death Magnetic, but I have no personal problem with the band, and I really think that their Facebook post enlisting the aid of their fans to find a missing girl is very cool. I hope Morgan is found and returned safely to her family.

From Metallica:

We are deeply concerned about the disappearance of 20 year old Virginia Tech student Morgan Dana Harrington, who was last seen while attending our concert at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA, on Saturday night.

Morgan has blonde hair and blue eyes, is 5′6″, 120 lbs., and was wearing a black “Pantera” T-shirt, black skirt, and black boots. She was not carrying I.D. or a cell phone. Morgan was separated from her friends shortly before 9pm at the venue. Police have been searching the area since Monday.

We encourage anyone who has any information regarding Morgan’s disappearance to please come forward. Additionally, if you or anyone you know shot video footage or took photos of the concert or audience, please check to see if there is anyone in your photos who might resemble Morgan. Please contact the Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3425 or the UVA Police at (434) 924-7166 or police@virginia.edu. if you have any information.

Our thoughts are with Morgan and her family for her safe return.

Alice in Chains talk with Metallica about new album

Today, and for the next 3 weeks, AOL’s Noisecreep.com will be releasing an exclusive and/or unheard audio clip from the amazing FMQB Metallica/Alice in Chains interview, “Inside Alice In Chains: Black Gives Way To Blue.” This week’s clip features Metallica talking to Alice in Chains about their collaboration with Elton John on the song “Black Gives Way To Blue.”

Discussing the title track, Cantrell tells Hetfield and Ulrich,

“It’s a really intense song, and a really open-hearted song to Layne and the experience that we went through. Facing up to all of that stuff, and owning all the good, and owning all the bad, and moving forward together. It was a lot of big steps… things were pretty black for us. It’s pretty literal to that, and things are starting to get a little lighter.”

S.O.D. Frontman Billy Milano Joins Lamb of God on Stage in Dallas, TX

M.O.D./S.O.D/MASTERY front man Billy Milano recently joined LAMB OF GOD on stage at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, TX. After being introduced by Randy Blythe, LAMB OF GOD and Billy Milano ripped through the S.O.D. classic “United Forces”.

LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler had the following to say about the blistering performance:

“We were honored to share the stage with a legend. Billy and S.O.D are our roots and I’ll remember this moment forever.”

Billy Milano also commented about the performance with the LAMB OF GOD crew:

“To share the stage with LAMB OF GOD was fucking amazing. It was a life changing experience. Watching the video on YouTube, I couldn’t believe the size of the stage I was on. Machine Head Announce Only U.S. Headline Show in 2009

Fresh off of main support dates with Metallica and a hugely successful run of major European festivals, Bay Area titans MACHINE HEAD announce a very special headline show at The Crazy Donkey in New York, in preparation for their run of Canadian Carnage dates with Slayer and Megadeth. MACHINE HEAD plan on doing a full headlining set with production and a unique set list that promises to cover their impressive and controversial 15 year career.

In the wake of their Grammy-nominated album The Blackening, MACHINE HEAD faced harsh penalties for their lyrics, and shockingly, were banned from several Disney-owned clubs for what Disney concert promoters deemed “negative imagery,” “inflammatory lyrics” and “undesirable fans.”

MACHINE HEAD stood their ground, however, and went on to headline the Jagermeister stage on the Mayhem Festival, and just returned from a triumphant headlining spot atop this years (20^th Anniversary) Wacken Festival in Germany to 85,000 people. MACHINE HEAD guitarist Phil Demmel had this to say,

“We are extremely excited to announce our only U.S headline show this year, and to have it be in New York is going to be insane!!!” Added singer Robb Flynn, “We really felt like doing something special for the U.S. fans to get ready for the Canadian Carnage dates.
