Blabbermouth posted a quote this morning that said this:
“Why would you blame [people who download music]?” Taylor said. “Half the fucking albums that are out there are shit. I don’t download, but at the same time, I don’t buy new music ’cause it all sucks. Okay, there’s a handful of bands that I buy, but other than that, I just buy old shit because old shit is good. Sorry!
“People wanna blame the decline of album sales on downloading, I think it’s actually the record companies’ fault,” he added. “I think it’s the quality of the product. If record companies [...]
Post from: Metal Martyr

Blabbermouth posted a quote this morning that said this:

“Why would you blame [people who download music]?” Taylor said. “Half the fucking albums that are out there are shit. I don’t download, but at the same time, I don’t buy new music ’cause it all sucks. Okay, there’s a handful of bands that I buy, but other than that, I just buy old shit because old shit is good. Sorry!

If record companies would stop giving any fucking mook on the street with a fringe a record deal or their own record label, maybe you would sell more fucking albums, dipshits.”

To this a million Blabberbrats said the same thing over and over: Guess you don’t buy your own music, cause it’s shit. Mallcore, Slipknot sucks, etc, etc.

Anyway, myself and many other people have said this a million times, with the exception of ‘I don’t buy new music ’cause it all sucks.‘. I don’t mean any disrespect but obviously Corey is too tied up with performing and recording to actually see what else is out there. That or his taste in metal is very limited. I was in the same state of mind for years. I had no idea how much really good stuff was out there until I started really looking and listening to other people. However he is right about labels big and small signing just about anything with a slight hook while talented bands get brushed aside. These days it seems for every good band there is 3 shitty bands.

That’s the biggest problem with modern rock. You have so many crap bands out there selling a cd with one or two good singles and the rest is filler crap. Seriously, how many NEW modern mainstream acts do you hear on the radio these days? Very few and they play a lot of older rock stuff. You know I can’t blame people for downloading either, but with all the resources to preview albums these days, you can’t really use the excuse above. You can preview stuff on iTunes or Myspace and if you like it you can buy the cd or download the individual song on iTunes. But people would still rather get something for nothing.

So lets look at a few things. Why isn’t metal as mainstream as most other genres of music? It is…just not on a mass basis. Why? Because if a metal band puts out a record, the radio only plays the “Radio-friendly” tracks. Stone Sour for example. Stone Sour’s Come What(ever) may was a great record. 30-30-150, Zzyxx Road, Scars, Reborn, Cardiff? All Great songs, but what did they play on the radio? Through The Glass and Silly World. Through The Glass was a great ballad…but Silly World? Silly World was the worse song on that record. And it took about 6 months after the record was released for them to play any songs off of it at all. What a load of BS!

Now getting back. I don’t know how it is in other countries, and there are Metal radio stations in the U.S. but you know when they play the most Metal? Late at night, when the people that pay for ads on the radio don’t really pay for air time. The only place you can hear real half-way decent metal is on Satellite radio. Lets be honest with ourselves for a moment…most metal-heads are cheap bastards. I’m not going to pay for satellite radio for one or two metal stations. I pay for satellite TV that has metal radio stations on it, but when I’m in my car my iPod is plugged in and I play what I want to hear. The local radio stations that play “Rock” mainly play the typical pop/rock stuff like the Foo-Fighters, Finger Eleven, Nickelback and some metal like Disturbed, but that’s about it.

In America it’s all about selling a product. You can’t expect to try to sell ads on a metal station if one was to come about and play metal all day. It’s not because of the lyrics or the message being sent by the bands. It just doesn’t sound like it would draw enough of a crowd to sell product. While a lot of people don’t see metal as mainstream as most other “Rock” or “Pop”, Metal is as mainstream to us as it ever will be. In the eyes of a metal fan, metal is everywhere. We don’t need radio play for us to be fans. We don’t need ads and spokespeople. All we need is a loud voice, a blast beat (Optional) and some cool riffs to bang our heads to. So what is radio friendly? Who cares. We don’t need metal radio and radio doesn’t need metal. We don’t need bands that sell a million records in their first month of sales. Metal bands sell out stadiums and venues every day without radio support. Why? Because we have what a lot of pop and rock fans don’t have…Dedication, loyalty, and respect for the bands we listen to. Don’t Forget It!!

In my opinion, modern rock as we know it is dead. There are very few credible bands these days in the scene to keep it alive. Just about any rock station you listen to is either playing Nickelback, jet, classic rock hits and 80’s and 90’s stuff. There is no new bands these days that are making an impact.
Bottom line to me is that rock is dead. Rock is boring. Rock hit it’s all time high and can not evolve anymore. If it did evolve it wouldnt be rock anymore. Where can rock go…nowhere.
Bottom line to me is that rock is dead. Rock is boring. Rock hit it’s all time high and can not evolve anymore. If it did evolve it wouldnt be rock anymore. Where can rock go…nowhere. It’s literally a flatline of mediocre songs that are sometimes fun to sing along to but nothing epic, nothing substantial.

Metal on the other hand has evolved and eventually will come full circle just to evolve again. I don’t think we have to worry about metal dying out anytime in this generation but painfully so…rock is dead.
