Morbid…Techno-Angel?
December 26, 2008 by Scott
You know when someone in a band says something kind of strange during an interview about how the next album is going to sound and it makes you think, “Uh-oh”. That’s how this made me feel. Trey Azagthoth of Morbid Angel was recently interviewed by Revolver Magazine. He kind of explains that next album is going to be “outside the box” and “extreme”. But before that he said this:
“I’d say it’s like an assemblage of all sorts of stuff from the catalog and some new influences. I listen to a lot of hardcore [techno] music now — the fuckin’ …read more
(Florida) Death Metal History
December 14, 2008 by Scott
Unless you’re only into some of the new Death metal or Deathcore, then you probably know at least some part of American Death Metal history. That history being that so many influential and break through death metal bands paved the way for so many other bands out of The Sunshine State.
January’s issue of Revolver Magazine has a great article on the history of Florida Death Metal with contribution from David Vincent (Morbid Angel), Glen Benton (Deicide), John Tardy (Obituary), Paul Masvidal (Death, Cynic) and Scott Burns. If you don’t have a clue who Scott Burns is, he is responsible …read more
IGN.Com Names The 10 Best Death Metal Singers…Metal Martyr’s $.02
October 24, 2008 by Scott
IGN.Com, a video game site recently published a post on the 10 Best Death Metal Singers and I must say that it is a hell of a list. I couldn’t agree more with it. Take a peak at the list below, but visit the site to get their insight on them, essential albums and a song/video from the band. My 10 picks aren’t much different, but when you put together a list like they did, it’s tough not to pick some of the same ones.
Frank Mullen – Suffocation
Lars Göran Petrov – Entombed
Paul Pavlovich – Assük
David Vincent – Morbid Angel

Metal Shavings 5/23
May 23, 2008 by Scott
Holy shit it’s been forever since I did a Metal Shavings bit. I’ve been covering so much press releases and such lately that I have lacked the human side of this site. My opinion is my outlet on things that are wrong, right or indifferent. And like everyone else I have to get shit off of my chest. Let’s see what we have on our platter tonight…
Anheuser Busch settled it’s lawsuits with the families of victims of the 2003 Station nightclub fire, paying 21 million dollars as opposed to going any further with legal actions and fees. How the hell …read more
Death Metal…WTF?
April 6, 2008 by Scott
When I was younger I used to love Death Metal. Bands like Deicide, Morbid Angel, Grave, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Obituary and Malevolent Creation were on a regular rotation in my cd player. A lot of things I used to hate about some Death Metal back then was the fact that the music was often overpowering the vocals. Not that you could understand half the shit they were saying unless you read and memorized the lyrics from the sleeve. These days a lot of Death Metal bands have the opposite problem. The vocals overpower the music and you can’t hear the …read more
Heavy Metal Poisoning…What Would You Recommend?
January 13, 2008 by Scott
When it comes to the basics of Metal there are the staple foods of heavy metal that everyone should experience. If I was to recommend some bands the a metal newcomer that is new to the music and has had his/her interest peaked by a band or two, I would recommend the basics. The basics being like I said the “staple food” of a head banger. Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest Iron Maiden, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Danzig, etc., etc. However I would also recommend some not metal artists Like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd just to give the person …read more
Morbid Angel: Dominating the Covenant
September 17, 2007 by Scott
Two of my favorite records from Morbid Angel before I kinda faded away from death metal were Covenant and Domination. Though members have changed throughout the years these two records had the best line-up of Trey Azagthoth on guitars, David Vincent on Bass and Vocals, and Pete Sandoval on drums.
With dominant anti-religion lyrics, ambient sounds that send a chill down your spine and a singer that sounds like Satan himself, Morbid Angel set a high standard in mainstream Death Metal.
