What Metal Band Would You Like to See Inducted In To The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

April 3, 2009 by Scott

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Metallica are getting inducted in to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame this coming week. We get it, already. My question is; what metal band do you think should be inducted in the Rock & Roll hall Of Fame?

Off of the top of my head I can think of two bands that should get inducted, well before Metallica, such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. There are other bands that I’d like to see get inducted…after the previously mentioned bands. I don’t want to see Dave Mustaine inducted under Metallica. He deserves to be inducted for his band, Megadeth, not a band that he contributed to. So with them on top, here are five bands of the Metal Genre that I believe should be inducted.

  • Megadeth: A given. If Metallica can get inducted after releasing albums such as St. Anger then Megadeth deserve a nomination, right?
  • Motorhead: A huge influence on so many of the rock and metal bands of today. How has this not happened yet?
  • Pantera: Seriously, they had a huge impact on the metal scene and they don’t get enough credit for persevering and pushing through the grunge era.
  • Danzig: With the contribution of The Misfits, Samhain and , well, let’s at least say the first four Danzig Albums, Glenn has made some great music that has influenced a lot of bands to include Metallica. Though I get tired of the satanic overtones in everything that he does these days, Glenn is a a great composer of music.
  • Slayer: If Metallica can get inducted, why can’t Slayer? They had some totally awesome albums over the years, even though everything kind of went bland after Season In The Abyss. they still have had a huge impact on the metal scene since their inception.

Sure these are some old school names, but there aren’t many other bands that deserve recognition. There are a handful that deserve an honorable mention such as Exodus and Anthrax. Sadly Motley Crue will probably be inducted before any of these bands, even Maiden or Priest. That’s how the corporate jack-offs in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame roll.

So, the ultimate question; who do YOU think deserves to be inducted in to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame from the metal (in general) genre?

Orgasmatron As Covered By Sepultura

March 12, 2009 by Scott

As Alex [Rochon] pointed out in my post from yesterday about the Argentinean band, Tren Loco, their cover of their newest album Veins Of Steel draws a huge resemblance of Motörhead’s Orgasmatron album. I don’t think that it’s so much of a parody as maybe a tribute to Motörhead.

Motorhead Orgasmarton tapa-Venas-de-Acero

This reminded me of how much I love Sepultura’s cover of the Motorhead original from the Dead Embryonic Cells single. This song has been covered by various metal bands to include Satyricon. Here is Sepultura performing the song live in Barcelona, Spain.

Guitar Hero Metallica Will Feature Lemmy!

February 13, 2009 by Scott

How cool is that? Guitar Hero: Metallica will feature Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister as an unlockable character. Spinner.com reports:

Gamers will have the option to either watch Lemmy’s in-game likeness as he hammers away at his bass and sings in his signature, whiskey-drenched vocals, or they can step into his cowboy boots and learn to play Motörhead’s 2008 re-recorded version of their biggest hit, the anthemic ‘Ace of Spades.’

That’s pretty cool. I mean, there are plenty of people I would like to see on Guitar Hero: Metallica that I never will, so this is cool. I wonder if you can only use him playing Bass?

Misfits Pull Out Of Volcom Tour

September 9, 2008 by Scott

The Misfits at the House of Blues

As reported by Antimusic.com, The Misfits have pulled out of the Volcom tour with Motorhead, Valient Thor and Airbourne. Antimusic said they were waiting on The Misfits PR to get back to them with a reason but have yet to publish one. All That was said was this short statement by the only original member left in the band, Jerry Only:

“The Misfits have always held an incredibly high standard of performance and quality in everything we do. Our fans expect this and deserve it. I will not compromise their expectations for any amount of money, prestige or fame.”

I don’t know what the hell that means. Maybe they were expecting to headline or didn’t like where they stood on the bill or whatever. Sounds to me like a clash of egos to me but I read a rumor that it was a fallout with organizers of technical issues…whatever that means.

Gibson Salutes Metal’s Power Trios.

July 27, 2008 by Scott

Aaron Lefkove over at Gibson.com wrote up an breif article of heavy metal’s power trios. Not many, only 5 hear, but there is a link to check out more namely power trios from a previous article.

Some of the bands he names are Wolfmother, Budgie, Motorhead, Boris, and Venom. Giving a little insight on each band and their sounds.

I saw this Boris video last night on Headbanger’s Ball and I was extremely bored with not only the music but the video as well. And something creeps me out about the look on the guitarist face. She’s got an angry, ‘cheat on me and I’ll hack off your privates!’ kind of look. And on top of that the solos/leads whatever you want to call them where not interesting and/or difficult. As far as the vocals were concerned, I couldn’t hear a damn thing he was saying and why would he bring a bass/6 string guitar combo in a video and not play both. Kind of defeats the purpose. Take a look for yourself.

Motorhead Finish Up New Album

June 5, 2008 by Scott

Ultimate-guitar.com reported :

motorhead_nc

Legendary hard rock band Motorhead has finished recording its new album, entitled “Motörize“, due before the end of the year via SPV Records. The follow-up to 2006’s “Kiss of Death” was recorded at Foo Fighters frontman/ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Northridge, California.

I dig some of the older Motorhead tunes and I bought Overnight Sensation a long time ago but I just can’t really get into the new Motorhead stuff or perhaps I just haven’t heard enough. Maybe I’ll give Overnight Sensation another listen. It’s been over 10 years, maybe I’ll like it.

TWELVV P.M. The Metal Martyr Diaries Soundtrack

April 14, 2008 by Scott

I’m not a heroin addict, lower class living where I grew up wasn’t that bad, my parents were good to me and my life has not all been that bad. It’s had some rocky points in it but overall I can’t complain because others have had it much worse. So the soundtrack of my day (yet another list day here at b5Media) goes something like this.

Starting yesterday up until now this is what I’ve been listening to.

  1. Children Of Bodom: Needled 24/7. I was listening to this yesterday doing yardwork when I accidentally ran over a little tiny bunny with the lawnmower. That was not cool, I don’t care what type of music you listen to.
  2. Killswitch Engage: Bid Farewell. This has nothing to do with the demise of the rabbit. It was just the first song to get played this morning on my way to work.
  3. NOFX: The Moron Brothers. Say what you want about these guys, they are great musicians and this song is funny as hell. “Their company you surely won’t miss when your ice trays are filled with piss”
  4. Sepultura: Orgasmatron. A great cover of Motorhead’s classic. Read more
