I intended to post a video of this “Best Metal Performance” but Warner Music Group wants money every time you even utter a syllable of a musicians name that they own the rights to.

Metallica "Cyanide" Studio Version and "The Day That Never Comes" Video

Here is the first video from Metallica for their first single of of Death Magnetic, The Day That Never Comes. Link to stream studio version of Cyanide after the fold. Enjoy…or not.

Next, you’ve heard the live sound board and fan recorded version of this song. It was the first we heard from Death Magnetic. Most really were not feeling this song but as The Day That Never Comes and My Apocalypse were released, things started to look up…a little. Let’s see what this studio version of Cyanide sounds like.The first window if Cynanide, the second is The Day That Never Comes and the third is My Apocalypse. Compare. I really hope that the mix on the CD sounds better than these do.

Early Review Of Death Magnetic And A New Streaming Single

Tony Hicks of Contra Costa Times got the chance to liten to Death Magnetic in it’s entirety at the secret Metallica headquarters. Why do all these people have to go to Metallica’s headquarters to listen? Because they are afraid of leaks. I’ve been told that review copies won’t go out early but promo copies will after the release. What can you expect. The band is holding on to this shit like they have the secret formula to metal music. I think they need to check the expiration date on that formula.

Anyway, the review is an in an out type review. he says good stuff and bad stuff just like all the other reviews that were posted back before they were “ordered” to take them down. However he does mention the following:

There’s barely a vocal hook in sight — something the band could pull off more than capably on the early records, even if it was shouting a few words to pass for a chorus. Somehow it just doesn’t work so well anymore. But [James] Hetfieldand [Lars] Ulrich may have been so pleased at how well the band sounds the first time in the studio with bassist Robert Trujillo, they just blew off the the choruses.

The song isn’t bad and I would even say that it’s better than the last two they gave us. however the mixing sound weird and I hope that it’s better on the release. I just wish they would tone down the vocals a bit and Lars snare would have more snap than twang, but at least it doesn’t sound like it did on St. Anger. So it’s getting a little bit better as each song is revealed and Hammet played an entire solo without the use of a Wah-wah and it actually sounded really good. Besides the mix I really don’t have anything bad to say about this song. It’s good, not great, but good. Probably the best song since the Black Album.
