Time Waits For No Slave comes out on February 10th on Century Media. I’ve had a chance to listen to the album and it’s a great, modern Napalm Death album. A quick review and tour dates after the fold.

Time Waits For No Slave is a great example of the Grindcore genre. Right from the beginning with Strongarm, it has that punk element to it that makes grindcore what it is. Fast and relentless, yet structured. On The Brink Of Extinction is a great chugging-riffed, plus triplets that should have the pits ablaze and shows the new crowd that you don’t have to have hammer on taps and pulls off every two seconds to make a modern “extreme metal” song. The title track, Time Waits For No Slave has a really cool lead riff that continues throughout most of the song and is easy to get hooked on with Barney’s mouth full of marbles vocals and semi-clean chorus (NOT like a metalcore clean vocal). With 28 years and 14 albums, these guys can still churn out the metal fury and show the new generation of deah/metalcore that THIS is how you make a metal album that will be remembered next year. I don’t have many Napalm Death albums, but this is surely bringing me back to the ones I have (Diatribes, Inside And Torn Apart and Utopia Banished).

Stream Napalm Deaths new album “Time Waits For No Slave” in it’s entirety at Napalm Death’s Myspace.

Cattle Decapitation is giving you a chance to hear their new album The Harvest Floor as well over at Buzzgrinder. I haven’t had a chance to give it a listen but I’m sure it’s almost as tasty as a bloody filet mignon.

A whole bunch of shit is going on at NAMM. Check Blabbermouth every two minutes for up to date coverage of that.

If you liked Dee Snider’s 1998 film Strangeland then you may or may not be pleased to find out that there will be a sequel. You can read about it at BW&BK.

WITHERED offers up recording, touring update

“We’re hard at work on the new album,” entitled ‘Folie Circulaire,’ says Atlanta’s WITHERED. “Preproduction has begun and we’re entering the studio on Feb. 23 with producer and friend Phillip Cope (Kylesa, Baroness, Black Tusk). Some things worth mentioning: There will be a guest vocal appearance by Mark ‘Barney’ Greenway of Napalm Death and we’re recording a cover of Necrophobic’s ‘Into Armageddon.’ WITHERED is finally spreading the darkness to the West Coast and Southwest, too. And, we’re doing it solo! We’re bringing new merch as well. See all you west coast people in about a month!”

‘Folie Circulaire’ is the follow-up to 2005’s critically-acclaimed ‘Memento Mori,’ and will be the band’s Prosthetic Records debut. Tentatively scheduled for a May release, more information will be available shortly. An unnamed demo song from ‘Folie Circulaire,’ along with previous material, is available on WITHERED’s official MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/withered).

—”The Code Is Red…Long Live Napalm Death

All of the death metal bands Scott has featured all rule in their own right. But one thing is an undeniable truth- none of them would exist if not for the kings of death metal- Napalm Death. Now I know there are purists out there who would be quick to say, “No, Napalm Death is not death metal, they are grindcore. “ To that I say “how does one really differentiate the two?” Also a listen to some of their later works displays a very distinct evolution to the death metal sound.

So where did Napalm Death begin? The band started in the early 80’s in England. They were fans of punk who wanted to take things even further in terms of extreme music. But they also wanted to deliver a message. Here is the first major difference between Napalm Death and most other death metal bands. Instead of lyrics about Satan, violence, and zombies, these guys were using their music to deliver social commentary (sort of like a heavy metal U2). Their first album, Scum featured over 2 dozen tracks, some as short as 4 seconds. It is brutal, raw, poorly produced, and downright ugly sounding. It is incredible and to Napalm Death fans, it is a classic, beautiful piece of work.

The band went through what seems like a million lineup changes, until it became what it is today. Former members of Napalm Death went on to form Carcass and Cathedral. But the heart of the band and its strongest lineup is the current group- Barney Greenway (vocals), Shane Embry (bass), Mitch Harris (guitars) and Danny Herrera (super incredible drum god). After 20 years, they still continue to do what they do best. And they are the best. No ballads, no bullshit. So this is what I say to you. For those looking at Napalm Death for the first time, I would recommend the following albums- Order of the Leech (probably the coolest title ever in metal) and The Code is Red…Long Live the Code (both similar in sound and style to the first Fear Factory album). If you are a Napalm Death fan already, then you already have everything and you (like I) know every word of every insane song. Here, I’ll give an example of some of the lyrics.

“You suffer!!! But why???” Yup, that my friends is an entire song. See you in the pit!!” -
