Metallica Reveal New Album Title…for real this time.

June 15, 2008 by Scott

So, for everyone that saw the little joke I did for Metallica’s new album cover and title, I hope you enjoyed it with a grain of salt. This time it’s the real deal…with the exception of the album cover. We still don’t know what that’s going to look like.

Metallica have titled their new Album “Death Magnetic“. Pretty cool I guess. Better than Load, Reload, or St Anger. Here is a video below, presumably from Metallica.com, uploaded to youtube announcing the album title. The intro riff sounds pretty cool. Kind of …And Justice For All sounding…but let’s not judge the entire record off of that one riff…or else Q-Prime might ask everyone to take it off of their blogs. Check out the videos. They are actually impressive and I promise, no more blatant cynicism towards the band until the release…and I swear to God if it blows I’ll never stop!

New Metallica Album Title And Artwork Revealed!

June 12, 2008 by Scott

newmetallica MetalMartyr.com (That’s me!) had the privilege of getting exclusive rights to post the very first image of the New Metallica Album Artwork and working title.

Disappointment, which has been hyped up for well over a year, will finally be released in September…maybe. We never really know. Whatever happens we know it will come out long before Guns N Roses’ Chinese Democracy. Hell, even by the time that’s released China may just be a democratic nation, and then Axl would have to change the album title with another oxymoron title like “Sober Weiland”.

You can Pre-Order your copy of Disappointment Here.

(Disclaimer- None of the above is serious…except maybe the Chinese Democracy line…but even then)

Mission Metallica Wants You(r money)

May 29, 2008 by Scott

misssionmetallicascreen If you registered for this Mission Metallica website you probably got the same e-mail I got yesterday. It was basically an e-mail saying that Mission Metallica is now live and running and that if you can’t get enough then you can get the “platinum package”.

Just when I thought this was a genuine attempt for the band to let you in and experience the making of the new record….it’s all a marketing ploy. They lure you in with the “Check out the making of..” and then try to hook you into buying merchandise like a heroin dealer giving you a little taste and then offering the full package. Packages range from $24.99 to $124.99. You can also pre-order a cup full or disappointment or as they’re calling it “The new album”. They offer you to buy the cd before you even hear it. Anyone that preorders a Metallica cd these days is either out of their mind or not and old school Metallica fan and actually likes St. Anger. If you like St. Anger…you’re clinically insane. End of story.

I think I may have said while back that I wasn’t going to talk anymore Metallica trash until after the release and review of the new album….I LIED!

According to Blabbermouth.net Metallica’s upcoming cd will be mixed by Greg Fideleman. Lars also mentions a bunch of “nutty” stuff during a conference call.

METALLICA has tapped Greg Fidelman — an engineer/producer who has worked with current METALLICA producer Rick Rubin on albums for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, SLIPKNOT and AUDIOSLAVE, among others — to mix its much-anticipated new album, due out in September.

During a conference call to promote Banaroo Fest Lars said all sorts of “nutty” stuff:

Some Kind Of Dog Crap! Why Do I Punish Myself With This Garbage?

April 11, 2008 by Scott

somekindofshit I know I said awhile back that I wasn’t going to talk sh*t about Metallica until the new record came out, but once again I was flipping through the channels and what was on VH1 Classics but “Some Kind Of Monster“.

Every time this is on I get pissed off. I get tired of hearing Lars and James argue like a couple of school girls. I get tired of hearing James try to sing Seek And Destroy like a female porn star faking an orgasm. What is it going to take to regain my faith in a band I once loved for their relentless rawness. Their chugging riffs. Their  Bad-ass-ness!

Metallica | Selling Out Yet Again

February 5, 2008 by Scott

metallicarrhof.jpgSorry, Couldn’t resist the headline. It’s amazing, no matter how much bad press they get. No matter how crappy of a record they put out lately, Metallica can still sell out a concert in less than an hour. I honestly don’t know why they even bother writing new material and recording it. Why don’t they just keep touring for the rest of their lives and playing old stuff. It works for Kiss and I’m sure it would work for them. If they use the excuse “We write new stuff to give the fans what they want.” then they should be ashamed. Read more

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich Interview

October 24, 2007 by Scott

Tom Lanham of Examiner.com recently conducted an interview with METALLICALars Ulrich. A few excerpts from the chat follow: drummer

On the band’s decision to waive longtime producer Bob Rock for Rick Rubin for the new album (which is tentatively due in February):

“For our own sanity, our own creative survival, we needed to work with a different set of circumstances and dynamics. So we’ve been stripped of our defense mechanisms, and it’s been very invigorating to be challenged again. Rick’s taken everything we’ve known about making records and completely turned it upside down.” Read more
