So, for everyone that saw the little joke I did for Metallica’s new album cover and title, I hope you enjoyed it with a grain of salt. This time it’s the real deal…with the exception of the album cover. We still don’t know what that’s going to look like.

Disappointment, which has been hyped up for well over a year, will finally be released in September…maybe. We never really know. Whatever happens we know it will come out long before Guns N Roses’ Chinese Democracy. Hell, even by the time that’s released China may just be a democratic nation, and then Axl would have to change the album title with another oxymoron title like “Sober Weiland”.

If you registered for this Mission Metallica website you probably got the same e-mail I got yesterday. It was basically an e-mail saying that Mission Metallica is now live and running and that if you can’t get enough then you can get the “platinum package”.

According to Blabbermouth.net Metallica’s upcoming cd will be mixed by Greg Fideleman. Lars also mentions a bunch of “nutty” stuff during a conference call.
METALLICA has tapped Greg Fidelman — an engineer/producer who has worked with current METALLICA producer Rick Rubin on albums for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, SLIPKNOT and AUDIOSLAVE, among others — to mix its much-anticipated new album, due out in September.
During a conference call to promote Banaroo Fest Lars said all sorts of “nutty” stuff:

Sorry, Couldn’t resist the headline. It’s amazing, no matter how much bad press they get. No matter how crappy of a record they put out lately, Metallica can still sell out a concert in less than an hour. I honestly don’t know why they even bother writing new material and recording it. Metallica frontman James Hetfield talks about the new record, the recording process and Rick Ruben in this interview from their official fan club online magazine “So What”. Here is an excerpts from Blabbermouth.net
James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Lars Ulrich offer more insight into the songwriting process for the group’s forthcoming album. “We don’t want pretty good, we want excellent and [producer] Rick Rubin is getting us to try and achieve that,” Hetfield is quoted as saying.

On the band’s decision to waive longtime producer Bob Rock for Rick Rubin for the new album (which is tentatively due in February):
“For our own sanity, our own creative survival, we needed to work with a different set of circumstances and dynamics. So we’ve been stripped of our defense mechanisms, and it’s been very invigorating to be challenged again. Rick’s taken everything we’ve known about making records and completely turned it upside down.”
