It’s quite obvious that the new album cover isn’t anything really epic and it’s cool that they are using the old Metallica logo. As every other site and commenter has said that it looks like a vagina. Is this intentional? I think so. Now let’s look at a few other things I’ve thought about today. I’m going to try to run through this quick because there is other news I need to get to.

Let’s start back at The Black Album. The Black Album has a snake on it…this can be perceived as a phallic symbol…or a penis for those without a dictionary.

Load- We all know that the cover of Load is supposedly semen and blood. Again…sexually related. Reload..the same, but this time is piss and blood.

Remember the S&M album…do I need to elaborate (Yes we know it stands for Symphony & Metallica, but it also stands for the obvious)

Then you have St. Anger. The cover with a hands bound…bondage anyone?

And now a Death Magnetic with a vagina shaped like a coffin…or is it a coffin shaped like a vagina? I know some people are going to take all of this seriously and get all up in a frenzy…but it’s ok. It all just seems like a funny coincidence to me, true or not. The cover art for Death Magnetic is simple yet kind of cool and I hope the music is a 1000 times better.

Whether they got a fat chunk of change for it or not, this is a cool thing for the band to do. I sincerely hope that it’s all worth the downlaod and that the album rocks. We’ll see. Here is a bit of the anouncement from Metallica’s official page and you can read even more infor at BW&BK:

“Death Magnetic,” the entire album, available for Guitar Hero too! It’s a first in both music and gaming . . . the same day that “Death Magnetic” hits the streets, you’ll be able to download every song from the album for Guitar Hero III! We are so psyched that we’ll be the first out of the gate with this simultaneous release . . . who knows, maybe a few years from now this will be the norm when your favorite band’s new record comes out.

“According to Finland’s Record Shop X, the Finnish release date for the new METALLICA album, “Death Magnetic”, is Wednesday, September 17. Although no official release date has yet been announced, it is likely that the CD will be issued in the U.S. on September 16, with most of continental Europe receiving the album on Monday, September 15 (except Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where fans will presumably be able to purchase the CD on Friday, September 12).”

I wouldn’t hold my breath or mark my calandar. We won’t really know untill it’s confirmed and it can always be pushed back again. Every time I say “Death Magnetic” I think of Sponge’s song Wax Ecstatic.

Metallica have titled their new Album “Death Magnetic“. Pretty cool I guess. Better than Load, Reload, or St Anger. Here is a video below, presumably from Metallica.com, uploaded to youtube announcing the album title. The intro riff sounds pretty cool. Kind of …And Justice For All sounding…but let’s not judge the entire record off of that one riff…or else Q-Prime might ask everyone to take it off of their blogs. Check out the videos. They are actually impressive and I promise, no more blatant cynicism towards the band until the release…and I swear to God if it blows I’ll never stop!

Disappointment, which has been hyped up for well over a year, will finally be released in September…maybe. We never really know. Whatever happens we know it will come out long before Guns N Roses’ Chinese Democracy. Hell, even by the time that’s released China may just be a democratic nation, and then Axl would have to change the album title with another oxymoron title like “Sober Weiland”.

Master Of Puppets, although started off a bit slow won the poll with 30% of the votes (42/138)

…And Justice For All Started out strong but in the past week started to fall slightly short. AJFA took second place with 26% of the votes (36/138)

Ride The Lightning came in third with 16% and 22 votes.

Sadly the Black Album just barely beat out Kill ‘Em All with a 17 to 15. I’m assuming this travesty only happened because of all the people that voted for Master Of Puppets or AJFA took the votes from Kill ‘Em All.

Reload and St Anger both got two votes, but one of the votes for St. Anger doesn’t count because it was just me being an ass.

Garage Inc. and S&M both took 1 vote and Load, poor Load got nothing.

So there you have it. Out of 138 people/votes Master Of Puppets has been voted as Metallica’s Best Release.

As you may have heard and seen all over the net, a few key people were given a private preview of Metallica’s new album. Some gave it really good reviews and one contributor from Quietus, Bob Mulhouse gave it a decent review saying: “This album could be good, or it could be mediocre – too much depends on the other four songs to make a call at this point.”

“It came as something of a surprise then to find that the internet had been expunged of any coverage of the event. We emailed The Quietus editor Luke Turner about what happened. He gave this response:

The story behind the removal of the article runs as follows: Metallica held an album listening party for selected music journalists in London this Wednesday past. One of the writers was kind enough to write a piece about the album which, if you were lucky enough to read it before it was taken down, was full of praise about a return to form. At no point was the writer ask[ed] to sign a non-disclosure agreement. The Quietus and other websites ran pieces on the album, but were quickly contacted by Metallica’s management via a third party and told to remove the articles. The Quietus kept our article up the longest and, as no non-disclosure agreement had been signed, [was] not prepared to remove it merely due to the demands of Metallica’s management. We only eventually removed the article earlier today to protect the professional interests of the writer concerned (the piece was written anonymously). Seems Metallica’s fear of the internet shows no sign of abating.

Interesting, huh? We’re still waiting for comment from Metallica’s camp, and will post their response when we receive it. Developing…”

OK, so the tyrants of Q-Prime give a few people a 6 song preview and don;t ask them to sign a non-disclosure agreement and then don’t expect them to say anything…especially on the net? Just another piece of the Metaipuzzle…suck or no suck? I read all of the reviews of the listening and I’m actually intrigued by what some said. We won;t really know until it’s out I guess. *coughdownloaditcough*

Lars Ulrich revealed last week in Los Angeles that the band has all but finished recording its ninth studio effort, with only a few touch-ups to be completed this week before mixing begins. As for what the band’s first CD since 2003’s “St. Anger” sounds like, Ulrich told The Pulse of Radio it’s hard for him to put a finger on it. “It’s METALLICA, that I can tell you,” he said. “My dad was up at the house a couple, three, four weeks ago so I played him a couple, three, four songs and I said, ‘Well?’ And he goes, ‘It sounds like METALLICA.’ And I don’t know if you can define it, I mean we can sit and get into, you know, little definitions about that, but he just looked at me and said, ‘That sounds like METALLICA.’ And that’s pretty cool.”

So…let’s dissect this a bit. Does it sound like NEW Metallica….or OLD Metallica? Does it sound like Master Of Puppets? Or does it sound like Load? Eh, who cares really. We’re going to get the run around, the “this” and “That”, the ‘Nutty’ explanation and the ‘all over the place’ explanation. In fact I’m sure every band member that gets interviewed is probably sick of trying to answer that question. Honestly, I can’t blame them one bit.I’m sick of hearing them try to explain it too. Lars…just tell them:”You’ll foind oat wut it fooking sewnds loyke when it cumes oat”…(you have to read it like Lars would say it)

This was the first time Metallica played the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. The show was a benefit concert for the Silverlake Conservatory of Music and all profits from the sale of this recording will be donated to the school.
*Flea, from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the reason for this whole concert (he co-founded the Silverlake Conservatory of Music), performed his favorite Metallica song with the band. He performed Fight Fire With Fire, which was last played on November 17, 2004 in Dallas, TX.
*The last time Metallica played in Southern California was on November 27, 2004 at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, CA.
*This was the first time No Remorse had been performed since playing in Quebec City on October 14, 2004.
*This was the first time in 19 years that …And Justice for All was performed in the US. It was last performed in the US on September 23, 1989 at Irvine Meadows in Irvine, CA.
