When it comes to the basics of Metal there are the staple foods of heavy metal that everyone should experience. If I was to recommend some bands the a metal newcomer that is new to the music and has had his/her interest peaked by a band or two, I would recommend the basics. The basics being like I said the “staple food” of a head banger. Whether you love them or hate them you can not deny the fact that Slipknot exploded onto the Nu metal scene in 1999 with their self titled Debut. With the Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat demo behind them and a 9 man line up with Corey Taylor on the mic, Slipknot had finally found their groove and would forever carve a scar in metal as we know it.

Why is it that every time a band comes out and it sounds slightly different, that suddenly we have to put a label on it and start a sub-genre. Aren’t there enough genres out there.
