Fall Headlining Tour Kicks Off October 24 in Orlando, FL

Renowned for their status as agents provocateur of the underground hard rock and industrial metal scenes, the latex defining and pop-culture defying Genitorturers return with the Nov. 3 release of Blackheart Revolution [G-Force/MVD Entertainment].

The outfit’s fifth studio release, Blackheart Revolution is a mesmerizing blend of infectious riffs and riotous overtures that lay the sexually-charged foundation for frontwoman Gen, the master of turbo-charged ceremonies and erotic rituals. The Genitorturers live spectacle returns to the road October 24, with the first leg of dates running through November (itinerary below).

“We wanted to make a big rock record that translates the same excitement I felt when I heard AC/DC’s Highway to Hell for the first time, combined with the dark intrigue of Alice Cooper’s Welcome to My Nightmare,” says Gen of the new release. “We wanted something that shakes the walls, grabs you by the balls, and scares you a bit in the process!”

Mission accomplished, as Blackheart Revolution combines the band’s signature, genre-bending style of aggressive rock, seductive metal and underground electric pop. Co-Produced by David “Evil D” Vincent [Morbid Angel] and Scott Humphrey [Motley Crue, Rob Zombie, Ozzy Osbourne], the album is a roller coaster ride of musical twists, sonic turns and reckless abandon.

A product of Orlando, Florida’s musical underbelly, what Genitorturers lack in wholesome family fun, they make up for in their celebration of the unspeakable, embracing and exploring our conservative culture’s taboos. They caught the ear (and eye) of legendary music industry magnate Miles Copeland, who signed the band to their first deal on his I.R.S. label, where they joined the ranks of fellow Copeland signings Gary Numan, The Go-Gos and R.E.M.

The lead single from Blackheart Revolution, “Cum Junkie,” is currently available via digital release, as well as in limited-edition, 7-inch vinyl. The collectible physical release will be the first in a series of vinyl singles to be released from the album, each complete with expansive packaging and uncensored artistic detail.

From their beginnings as upstart mavericks, to their current status as veteran iconoclasts, the only boundaries the Genitorturers know are the boundaries that they shatter.

“I gotta be honest with ya, the boss is not even giving me a phone call, so I mean, it’s just like, what’s going on over there? Are we doing this thing, are we not doing it? I keep getting asked these questions, I go ‘Call the boss, when he tells you, you call me back’.”

As the conversation progresses, Zakk becomes more and more agitated until he finally explodes into an expletive rich cacophony to the tune of:

“Where I come from, the bottom line is, s*** like this goes down, I swear to Christ, we snap motherf***ers necks and beat the living s*** out of people. It ain’t f***ing cool. So it is what it is. The wife can say what she wants and all this other s***. It ain’t f***ing cool. It’s just like, alright, cool, you want to play tough guy s***? Look me in the eyes, I’ll tell him ‘Meet me in the back f***ing alley, and we’ll get this f***ing s*** on. You gonna f***ing treat me like a dick? F*** you.”

If Zakk hasn’t been contacted at all about his apparent expulsion as Ozzy’s lead guitarist, I can understand his frustration. However, before this recording, there may have been a chance of a reconciliation down the road. I don’t see it now, nor do I call people who bite the heads off of living animals (and pay my bills) out into back alleys. I’m just sayin’.

In a report by the UK’s Daily Record, Ozzy says:

“When the filming ended, I’d go in my little bunker and smoke a pipe and drink about a case of beer every day.

“I’d give myself some goodness and get up early in the morning and go jogging for six miles.”

To me, that’s incredible. I couldn’t do that when I was younger and I couldn’t imagine ever doing it at almost 60. He also admits to being on prescription drugs too. Yeah, I know, who would have thought?

The report also briefly tells about him dealing with his kids who had substance abuse issues as well and Sharon going through her colon cancer sickness. Regardless of the reality show and all the other B.S., Ozzy is a legend and an icon in metal. You can look at the show and say that you’ve lost respect for him as he’s be portrayed as a bumbling fool, but let cameras follow you around all day, while people edit it for ratings. See how foolish you look when it leaves the cutting room.

Holy crap!!! Ozzy Osbourne has lived long enough to turn 60 today. Although most of us hate Sharon, we can thank her for Ozzy actually living this long. If she hadn’t turned him around after the Sabbath fallout he would probably be dead by now. So wish the Prince Of Darkness a Birthday-Bloody-Birthday!

There is an organization started by a former U.S. Marine Paul Hickman, to donate and send guitars to the U.S. Troops over in Iraq and Afghanistan as a moral booster. When you’re far from home like that, the smallest things make a huge difference. Zakk Wylde has always been a “For the troops” kind of guys, so when Guitars For Grunts founder contacted him to autograph a guitar for the troops, Zakk Wylde offered to supply the guitar. One of his Signature Custom Les Paul Camouflaged “Bull’s Eye” model! It was a lower end Epiphone model, but nonetheless, that was real cool of him. Hickman sent Gibson a letter about the guitar that Gibson Featured on their website:

Hickman wrote, “I just wanted to take a moment and let you know that the guitar pictured on your Web site with the Marines in Baghdad, Iraq, was in fact donated by Zakk Wylde. I contacted Zakk about allowing me to send him a guitar to sign for our troops, and he said that he would supply the guitar!

“A few weeks later that guitar arrived at my house, and shortly thereafter was on its way to the Marines in Baghdad. That picture was taken on the roof of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad!”

Can you blame the him? Four seasons on MTV and everyone in America got a glimpse of what drugs and living with Sharon Osbourne can do to a person’s head. Jack is out to produce a documentary (titled ‘John‘) to perhaps change the worlds perception of Ozzy as the bumbling, shuffling, feeble minded man that he appeared to be on MTV.

“The hard part is getting people to be honest and not have [the documentary] be a fluff piece, because that’s not what we’re trying to do,” said Jack. “I’m trying to paint a realistic picture of who my father is. I think ‘The Osbournes,’ to a degree, tarnished the public’s perception of my dad. I think [it] almost discredited who he is as an artist. My dad’s not an idiot ― he’s nothing short of genius, in my opinion. He does have huge flaws, and we’re trying to really paint an honest picture of that.”

We all know that Ozzy is not the fool that MTV made him out to be and most people respect the work and music that Ozzy has brought us for the the 40 years…with maybe the exception of Black Rain and Ozmosis. I’d like to see the end result of this. At least he’s not trying to make some crappy pop/rock album like his sister. That was disgusting. ʂɰ

The Calavera Conspiracy, on the other hand, were easily one of the best acts all day not named Metallica or Ozzy. Formerly half of the godlike Brazilian death metal group Sepultura, Max and Igor Calavera joined forces earlier this year to produce Sepultura-esque music together. While the Calavera Conspiracy is not anywhere near the level of their former band (or even of Max’s other band Soulfly), the band was still able to rock the arena with old Sepultura covers, as well as some new material. Later, their specific tribute to Dimebag Darrell would stand out amongst a sea of mediocrity: more on that later.

 

After ‘Sanitarium’, Metallica played their only disappointing song of the entire night, a cut off their new album Death Magnetic called ‘Cyanide.’ For metal fans who hated St. Anger, I’ve got some bad news: ‘Cyanide’ suffered from all the same problems as the disappointing last album: poor songwriting, low energy, choppy arrangement, and guitarwork that doesn’t quite fit what the rest of the band is doing. While the song had some great riffs, it seemed they were almost immediately snuffed out by some too-complex drum bit or ill-timed tinny guitar solo. While I’m emotionally bound to buy the album anyways –after all, it does say ‘Metallica’ in big letters across the cover– after hearing ‘Cyanide’, I’m a little worried.

Metallica brought the house down, however, with ‘One’. Introduced by a long series of fireworks and impressive pyrotechnics, the band absolutely rocked with their signature ballad to landmine-based tragedy. Although it was difficult to hear Hammet’s guitar solo (for some reason, huge banners were hung directly over the speakers, and occasionally large gusts of wind would cover the sound), the sight of tens of thousands of potential James Hetfields destroying their vocal chords was amazing.

While I’m not disappointed that I don’t live in or near Texas, I would have liked to go to at least one more Ozzfest in my lifetime. I caught Ozzfest in it’s prime back in 97 and I wonder after this years one U.S. tour date, if they will even bother next year. It’s ok though, with as many different tours out there like Mayhem Fest, Summer Slaughter, and Thrash And Burn, do we really need another Ozzfest?
