Machine Head to Cover Pantera for Upcoming Tribute CD

According to The Metal Den, Machine Head’s recently announced cover of Pantera’s “Fucking Hostile” is reportedly going to be appear on an upcoming Pantera tribute CD that’s being assembled by an unrevealed UK metal magazine. The disc (it’s being said) is to feature numerous current scene heavyweights covering songs from the great Texas band’s back catalogue.
Machine Head vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn had this to say,
”Found time to hop into Trident Studios with Juan Urteaga and record a PANTERA tune for a b-side. We’re doing ‘Fucking Hostile’!!! Dave is done with drums (nailed it on the second take!), and I finished guitars …read more

Dimebag Darrell – A Tribute

Today (August 20) marks what would have been Dimebag Darrell’s 43rd birthday. In tribute to Dimebag, I wanted to write a post honoring his life and his contributions to not only metal, but to his friends, family and all of us fans.

Pantera: Avoid The Light

Pantera: Avoid The Light

It’s been an extremely slow start to the week as far as metal news goes. Either that or I’ve completely missed some good posting material. Anyway, remember that really shitty movie, Dracula 2000? I don’t remember much from it to be honest, but I was reminded tonight when I pressed “Play all” on my iPod with Pantera in mind. This is a greatly overlooked song in Pantera’s collection. From the soundtrack in which, well, this was really the only good song on the soundtrack. Well, that and Slayer’s Bloodline.Bloodline kind of grew old quickly.

Dave Mustaine Hints At Upcoming Tour With Slayer?

Dave Mustaine hinted at a possible upcoming tour that has potential to “squash feuds” on one of his Megadeth Forums updates yesterday.
Droogies!
Today is the 9th of April and I have agreed to doing something last night that I am sure a lot of people are going to be very excited about, and something that I had hoped would one day lead to another one of the potential feuds going away for good, if not for a long while.
I can’t confirm the band or the dates yet, and I have to go get my youngster up for school. Rest assured, …read more

What Metal Band Would You Like to See Inducted In To The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

What Metal Band Would You Like to See Inducted In To The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Metallica are getting inducted in to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame this coming week. We get it, already. My question is; what metal band do you think should be inducted in the Rock & Roll hall Of Fame?
Off of the top of my head I can think of two bands that should get inducted, well before Metallica, such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. There are other bands that I’d like to see get inducted…after the previously mentioned bands. I don’t want to see Dave Mustaine inducted under Metallica. He deserves to be inducted for …read more

Rex Says There’s A Pantera Box Set Coming!

Blabbermouth reports that Former Pantera Bass player Rex Brown has confirmed that there is a Pantera box set in the works. Most people’s first thought will probably be “But I have of their CD’s already”. Do you? Most people think they do, but before Cowboys From Hell there are some albums that never made the cut and died right alongside the glam scene. The only one that I have come across is Power Metal which I lost some years ago. I imagine you can probably find some of the pre-CFH albums on the file sharing networks, but if they reprinted …read more

Review: A Vulgar Display Of Power, Courage And Carnage At The Alrosa Villa

Review: A Vulgar Display Of Power, Courage And Carnage At The Alrosa Villa

A Vulgar Display Of Power: Courage And Carnage At The Alrosa Villa is a fairly fast read and hard to put down. This isn’t a book about the life and death of Dimebag Darrell Abbott, but a book about the life and death of everyone that died that gruesome night in December, 2004.
It starts off by telling you about the first time Nathan Gale made an assault at a Damageplan concert in Cincinnati, Ohio. A lot of people didn’t know or hear about this incident in April of 2004. That night nobody died and the only person that …read more

Dimebag Darrell: He Came To Rock

Last week I bought “Get Thrashed: The Story Of Thrash Metal“. I had a problem with the DVD though. It was unbalanced or something. It wouldn’t play correctly in a standard DVD player, but would play fine in my Laptop. I took it back to exchange it for another copy today, but they were all out. Instead they gave me credit and let me exchange it for something else so I found the new Dimebag Darrell book He Came To Rock.
The book also came with Dimevision Vol. 1. The book is great and is full of pictures of Dime, …read more

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, 4 Years Later And It Still Hurts A Little

"Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, 4 Years Later And It Still Hurts A Little

“Dimebag” Darrell Lance Abbott
Aug. 20, 1966- Dec. 4, 2004
Four years ago I was still in the military and was overseas. I was going through my daily ritual of checking email, news and such before heading to work when I heard them say something about someone being killed at a Damageplan concert. I didn’t catch the whole thing so I ran a search on Yahoo! and it returned with a bunch of headlines reading “Damageplan Guitarist Murdered On Stage During Concert“, Or “Four Killed At Ohio Heavy Metal Concert“.
