Kataklysm: In The Arms Of Devastation

Friday I took a trip to FYE to see what the big deal was about Protest The Hero. While I couldn’t get in to it through sampling it at the store, I’m going to give it another shot later. I couldn’t find anything that really roused my interest as far as newer cds goes, so I stuck to what I know.

I picked up Kataklysm’s 2006 release, In The Arms Of Devastation. I figured I really liked Prevail so I might as well start working on buying older Kataklysm cd’s and see what I like. In The Arms Of Devastation is just as awesome as Prevail. The album features guest appearances by a couple of other people you might know. Morgan Lander of Kittie guest sings on It Turns To Rust. Rob Doherty and Tim Roth (no, not the British actor) of Into Eternity make a guest appearance on The Road To Devastation.

If you’re still just getting in to Kataklysm (yeah, where the hell have I been?) then you should check out this album. I bought a used version of the Special Edition with a live performance in La Laiterie in Strasbourg, France. It’s not a great sounding DVD, but it’s ok. The DVD also has the video for Crippled & Broken and To Reign Again. Crippled & Broken is an anti-war song about the after effects of war on the human mind. I don’t necessarily like the message but it’s a cool song and video.

Metal Shavings, Mourning Edition

Mourning edition? Yeah, I don’t know. It looked a lot cooler when I typed it up like that. Anyway, I took a day off from work so I’m going to be doing some updates throughout the day with some and I there is a lot of news to cover so instead of stretching it out I thought I would lump most of it in one shot and work on some reviews in between as well as work on some stuff over at The Rock Dose. That page needs some traffic badly so I have to take a little attention away from Metal Martyr for a bit. Let’s get started.

Antimusic reported that Sharon Osbourne said in an interview that Ozfest will return next year as it did in the past and she wants AC/DC to open. That will be interesting…how the hell does she plan on paying for that gig. AC/DC aren’t exactly cheap act to book, I don’t care how old they are. You can read Antimusic’s take on it here

There is more rumors of a Slayer retirement. We heard this awhile back, but this time it sounds much more inevitable. in This Interview at Thrashhits.com, Tommy Araya says “Yeah. Let’s put it this way, this is the final record of our commitment with Rick Rubin.” But that leaves an open end. Does this mean the last Slayer record or just the last one with Rick Ruben? Maybe they will try different ventures.

Id there a Metallica track listing for Death Magnetic? It appears so and there is actually going to be an Unforgiven III. But now it’s kind of up in the air or maybe someone leaked some shit they were not supposed to. Blabbermouth first reported this and not it looks as if the source site has taken down the announcement…WTF?

Kataklysm recently announced a North American Tour. I can only hope they play in some venue near me but I can’t get my hopes up. If you haven’t heard the entire Prevail album, buy it, borrow it burn it, whatever…it’s brutal, it rips, it kills…ok, can’t think of any other metal sounding expressions to describe this album…oh wait…IT SLAYS!!

Canada’s very own extreme metal titans, KATAKLYSM, have re-signed with Nuclear Blast Records! This isn’t the first time the band has re-signed to the label either but actually the fourth time; a first in the history of Nuclear Blast Records!

It is a partnership that has thrived for the past 15 years and has produced such classics as Temple of Knowledge, Shadows and Dust and In the Arms of Devastation to name a few. The band is currently part of the annual Summer Slaughter tour, supporting their soon to be classic new album, Prevail.

I have been listening to Prevail almost non-stop since I bought it last week. It’s really an awesome album. If you haven’t got it yet, get it. You won’t be disappointed!

Kataklysm’s Prevail SUCKS!!

Yeah, I said it…but I was just screwing around. I got this tonight and I’m pissed at myself for going this long without it! This album kicks ass from her to Kingdom Come. I was a bit reluctant to get this because I have only heard a couple of songs and I wasn’t quite sure what I would think. This album is amazing……..that is all~

Kataklysm Streams New Album On Myspace, Offers Up Widget For Fans

KATAKLYSM’s latest album, Prevail, will be available for streaming on the band’s MySpace Page until May 23^rd. The band’s ninth studio release was mixed at AudioHammer Studios in Orlando, Florida with producer Jason Suecof. The album, which is scheduled for release via Nuclear Blast Records on May 27, features guest solo appearances by Pat O’Brian of Cannibal Corpse, Overkill’s Dave Linsk and producer and guitar shredder Jason Suecof himself.

Watch Kataklysm Video Taking The World By Storm | Download The Chains Of Power

Earlier this week, Northern Hyperblasters Kataklysm premiered the video for “Taking The World By Storm” on MySpace Metal. The gritty performance clip was shot and directed by MyGoodEye honcho David Brodsky, whose other work includes videos for Soilent Green, Pig Destroyer and a host of other noiseniks. The track is pulled from the group’s upcoming ninth studio album, Prevail, which is set to be released May 27th via Nuclear Blast and has already netted tons of praise from the folks at Decibel, Brave Words, Metal Maniacs and Metal Hammer, who called it “the best death metal record of 2008.” Both the video’s directors and Kataklysm vocalist Maurizio Iacono weighed in on the experience and the triumphant finished product:

“It was a true pleasure to work with David on this video, his level of professionalism is outstanding and his vision is great. We had fun filming this video although we froze our fucking balls off for 12 hours! Kataklysm Return With Ninth Studio Release, Prepare For Summer Tour

Northern hyperblast is back with a bang on Prevail, the ninth studio release from prolific Canadian brutalists, Kataklysm. Following on the heels of 2006’s critically-acclaimed In The Arms of Devastation, the band’s latest slab of blastbeaten death metal is some of the sharpest, most visceral material of the Montreal-based crew’s nearly 20-year career. Once again, the production process was supervised by the band’s guitarist J-F Dagenais, and the mix was pounded out by the one and only Jason Suecof (Chimaira, Trivium, Bury Your Dead), so it’s appropriately hefty and punishing. Joining in for some special guest shredding on Prevail is Pat O’Brien of Cannibal Corpse, Overkill’s Dave Linsk, and, of course, Suecof himself.
