Vocalist Trevor Strnad comments; “We are excited to bring you the debut of our new video Necropolis by way of the kind folks at Revolver magazine. We filmed this one at the Garden Bowl in Detroit Michigan early in the morning…we want to thank everyone that was involved for getting drunk at 10am. Bear witness to the horror of 1,000 gutter balls! PARTY ON, WAYNE!”

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER are gearing up to get back out on the road and will be heading out on a direct support slot with Children of Bodom (9/18 – 10/12). Once THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER finishes up their run of dates with Bodom they will hit the road for their first headline run in concurrence with the release of Deflorate. Support on BDM’s headline run will come from Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust, and Trap Them on a month long trek across the US.

Deflorate was produced by The Black Dahlia Murder, Mark Lewis (Deicide) and Jason Suecof (Beneath The Massacre, Job For A Cowboy) with mixing duties handled by Suecof. Deflorate is multifaceted death trip: beautiful, evil, and morbidly addicting. The Black Dahlia Murder’s fourth thrashing epic sees no punch pulled, no gravestone unturned, no soul uncorrupted. Guard your precious innocence all you like, it will do you no good—Deflorate is here.

If you haven’t picked up your copy of Majesty yet, the DVD is available at the Metal Blade Records online store HERE and don’t forget to catch the band live as they tour on the Rockstar Mayhem Festival this summer.

I was given the opportunity last week to listen to Bigelf’s new CD Cheat the Gallows, and I absolutely love this band. While most of their songs wouldn’t be considered “metal”, one of their jams, titled “The Evils of Rock and Roll” is featured on Revolver Magazine’s free 21 song Metal Mayhem Compilation, which is the first song I heard by the group.

As part of the Progressive Nation Tour, Bigelf is currently touring with Dream Theater, Zappa Plays Zappa and Scale the Summit. Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy says:

Los Angeles’ Bigelf are my personal favorite new band to come along in many years…their latest CD “Cheat The Gallows” is my favorite album of the year and I already had positioned them onto the European run of Progressive Nation in the Fall….with them now joining us on PN09 in North America as well, it looks like world domination is now not that far out of reach for them!

Bigelf has a very refreshing sound, a pleasing mix of the Beatles, Pink Floyd with a hefty dash of Black Sabbath thrown in for awesomeness. Cheat the Gallows is “30 years behind and 5 years ahead of what’s happening in music today.”

Read my review and contest details after the jump!

The album starts with “The Gravest Show on Earth”, and is an absolutely brilliant way to kick off this CD. With a beautifully dark “here comes the carnival” feel to it, I was reminded of classic Sabbath, and for some reason The Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil” popped into my head at one point. Brilliant.

Bigelf captures a 70’s style that I haven’t heard in a long time, and didn’t know that I was missing until now. Paying homage to some of the best artists in music history, but with a style all their own, Bigelf is set to take the stage and show us what they bring to the rock table on the following dates:

“Sure to become a collector’s classic, Revolver’s November 2008 issue celebrates Slipknot’s crushing new album, All Hope Is Gone, and their provocative new look with 10 unique covers of the masked maniacs: one cover for each band member plus a shot of the Nine together, in stunning photographs available nowhere else.

Collect all 10!

Inside, you’ll read a hard-hitting, exclusive oral history of the band in which they reveal the shocking secrets behind their rise to infamy. The boys of Slipknot rarely open up to reporters, so Revolver is proud to feature such a candid interview with this controversial and innovative band.

But that’s not all! Available for a short time only, we have created a limited-edition “Black Box” collector’s set that features all 10 unique covers wrapped in an awesome black package, not available in stores.

It featured album covers that were controversial due to graphic images of evil, death, sex, etc. They had some really good picks of some great albums. A few included are Pantera’s original concept for Far Beyond Driven, Nashville Pussy’s Let Them Eat Pussy album, Cannibal Corpse‘ Butchered At Birth as well as Deicide’s Once Upon The Cross. Some of them were not really graphic as to having a sexual or image of death or gore, but some being images of evil such as Mercyful Fate’s classic Don’t Break The Oath, Iron Maiden’s The Number Of The Beast and Venom’s Welcome To Hell. You can check out some of the ones they say they couldn’t show in the magazine. Some of them are gory, some just downright foul and one (The Scorpions’ Virgin Killer) could be considered child pornography these days. Here are a few of my favorites. Click on the thumbnail for a better view.

Cannibal Corpse Tomb Of The Mutilated: I thought this albm cover was cool back then and I still dig it to this day. Yeah, it’s kind of sick and twisted…but that’s Cannibal Corpse for you. They didn’t show this one in the magazine, but it’s in the online list.

Deicide Once Upon The Cross: Although these days I’m not the Jesus hater that I was back when this was released, I understand that it’s just a picture. No big deal. I respect the art and still think this is a cool metal album cover. The original art presented is inside the cover and depicts Jesus on an autopsy table, with his chest open.

Metallica Kill ‘Em All: It doesn’t really show much more than a bloody hammer and that’s all you really need to see. One of the most simplistic yet kick ass album covers of all time. If I had a choice to go back in time and choose between the original knife and toilet picture of “Metal Up Your Ass” and this one for their debut, I would pick this one. It’s timeless!

Megadeth Youthanasia: Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying was in the magazine, and they mention that in this day of post 9/11 that it almost foretold the future and makes it a timeless classic. I can agree, but the most graphically violent Megadeth album cover is Youthanasia, depicting how we are hung out to dry. Babies hanging from a clothes line…what more can you say?

Danzig Thrall Demon sweat Live EP: Although I don’t consider Danzig a great live band, this CD cover, drawn by then DC Comics artists Simon Bisley is awesome. Just look at it….that’s a cool cover, especially if your a Danzig fiend! Simon has also done art work on Danzig 6:66 Satan’s Child and I think he did the work for The Lost Tracks Of Danzig

Rage Against The Machine’s debut album showed a Buddhist monk in Viet Nam during a protest in Saigon in 1963 that set himself afire. What is so great about some dude setting himself on fire? He did this out of protest of the killing of other Buddhists by the government at the time. It was an actual photo that won the Pulitzer Prize and the monk that set himself on fire did it and didn’t move. He didn’t get up running and screaming in pain. He set himself on fire and sat there and let himself burn to death without a word!

Open Defiance, a band out of Northern Virginia. I bought this at a small record store back in1996. I don’t know what has happened with this band since, but back then it was a cool cd. I’m not to huge on it these days, but they had that classic photo of a baby holding up the middle finger on the debut album cover. Sure it’s not really an original idea these days and you’ve probably seen it a million times since then, but back in ‘96 it was the shit.

This last one is so vile and disgusting that I could not post the picture here. You’ll have to click on the link to see who it is and what album cover. It almost makes me sick when I look at this one. Be warned, the following album cover is not for weak stomachs. Click the link below.
