This time around they have reached out to an outside producer instead of Adam Dutkiewicz producing it, so it makes me wonder how much different it will sound. Brendan O’Brian, who was chosen to produce has produced for Pearl Jam, AC/DC and most notably in my opinion Mastodon’s Crack The Skye. Howard Jones stated in the Roadrunner.com announcement:

“It was time for us to step outside of our comfort zone and try something a little different with this record.  It definitely still sounds like us, but we needed to be refreshed and take things a little further.” The singer also comments on the album being the band’s second self-titled effort of its career, saying, “When we all couldn’t agree on an album title, someone suggested we just keep it self-titled and we all pretty much agreed…gives it the feeling of a fresh new beginning.”

I’m looking forward to it I guess. I haven’t listened to much KSE in awhile but I always look forward to a new album from them, especially with Brendan O’Brian producing. If it’s anything like Crack The Skye it’s sure to raise some eyebrows.

What was Roadrunner Records supposed to do after the label corralled 56 musicians from 44 different bands spanning the label’s entire 25-year history to release one groundbreaking album, called Roadrunner United: The All-Star Sessions?  Simple. Throw one helluva party!

The label did just that, holding a party complete with an all-star performance by artists once and currently signed to the label, as well as friends of the company.

Roadrunner is pleased to announce the release of Roadrunner United The Concert on December 9, 2008. The double-disc set hits shelves almost three years to the day after the now-legendary concert held at the Nokia Theater in Times Square in New York City on December 15, 2005. The concert enjoyed a cult, "You had to be there!" status in the metal and hard rock scenes and now Roadrunner is giving the label’s diehard followers a chance to witness the event for themselves.

Roadrunner United The Concert captures the festive intensity of the evening. A house band, featuring members of core Roadrunner acts such as Slipknot, Sepultura and Machine Head, performed hits and classics culled from the entirety of the Roadrunner catalog. Some of the highlights included Slipknot/Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor performing "Bother" with Life of Agony’s Keith Caputo; former Killswitch Engage singer Jesse Leach dueting with current vocalist Howard Jones for KsE’s "My Last Serenade"; an assortment of frontmen handling vocals for staple songs like Slipknot’s "(Sic)" and "Surfacing," Machine Head’s "Davidian," King Diamond’s "Abigail," Sepultura’s "Refuse/Resist," Type O Negative’s "Black No. 1," Soulfly’s "Eye For an Eye" as well as four songs from the Roadrunner United: The All-Star Sessions album. The double disc set also includes a 75-minute documentary, complete with interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, making it an even more intimate, fan-friendly experience!

The DVD is essential for those who’ve followed Roadrunner from its humble beginnings as a Dutch import label to the powerhouse, gold standard in hard rock and heavy metal that it has become.

"It is official — the MEGADETH studio [located near San Diego, California] is alive and we have christened it Vic’s Garage. As of approximate 5:00 p.m. PST today (October 9), the first notes were recorded here on guitar. Set your watches, kiddies! We are calling it for the night. Shane [McConnell, the 'System Lord' of MEGADETH's official web site, Megadeth.com] is coming out and his flight was late. Hopefully he won’t feel too bad when he gets here and we are gone!"

I can’t wait to hear what they have to offer this time around. If it’s a step up from United Abominations, then I think we are in for an awesome album.

I’ve had Ascendancy since 2005 and I can probably count on my hands how many times and how many songs I have listened to. When I got Ascendancy I also got a few other CD’s in the mix that I can’t think of off the top of my head  but Trivium didn’t get much attention. I just wasn’t into that Matt Heafy scream back then. Upon listening to Ascendancy all the way through today I was very surprised how much I was diggin it. It will probably get a lot more iPod time now. And then The Crusade started playing right after that (alphabetical order in iTunes) and I was absolutely loving it! I was a bit hesitant about buying The Crusade when it came out because I was afraid I wouldn’t like it, but I bought it anyway and it got a lot of play time and still does.

Trivium gets so much flack, being called Screamo, Metalcore, Metallica clones, etc. But in my opiion they are a great solid band that have an ass-load of talent. Seriously, in this day and age of metal it’s tough not to sound like another band, but most people can tell a Trivium song faster than they could tell another death/black/metalcore band if a random song played. Now some people may be reading this and saying to themselves ‘I wouldn’t know a Trivium song if I heard one", and you know that those are the same people that hate them. Trivium have a signature sound to them, believe it or not, where as many other metalcore bands all sound similar. I’m not bashing metalcore bands, most know that I dig a lot of metalcore bands. But the fact is that Trivium gets more crap by more people that probably have never heard many or any of their songs. I’m checking out these guys live on the 18th with All That Remains and I’ll be interviewing Corey Beaulieu before the show.

I’ll try to get a review of Shogun up sometime this week.

On another note, Andy Sneap arrived in San Diego on Sunday night to meat up with Dave Mustaine and crew to put the finishing touches on the custom built studio for recording Megadeth’s next record. A custom built studio? Better be a kick ass album for putting all that work in to a recording studio. I mean, you can write 10 songs and record them in  the best studio in the world, but if they are crap, then they are crap. These days you can actually get a decent sound recording through a laptop in someone garage if you work the acoustic right. But this is Dave Mustaine we’re talking about here. It’s very rare that he puts out an all together bad album. But I do remember a custom built studio in Arizona built for Cryptic Writings and I hated that album. We’ll see.
