This week is the week that starts off another great year for metal. Last week there was really nothing worth mentioning except maybe High On Fire’s live album. This week however kick starts it with:

Kreator – Hordes Of Chaos: Stream it before you buy it HERE

Saxon – Into The Labyrinth: Three words…Old, Crusty…METAL!

Too Pure To Die – Confess: Although Metalsucks.net gave this a terrible review, it never hurts to find out how much it might suck for yourself.

Metalexpressradio.com recently interviewed Biff Byford, the old-ass dude from British metal band Saxon. Ok, so the guy is only 57 and other rockers may still be going at an older age, but this dude looks older than 57. Who cares.? Anyway, he talks about the future of Saxon and their 2007 release, Inner Sanctum.

Metal Express Radio: Certainly from SAXON’s point of view you seem to be going through something of a renaissance. Your last album, “The Inner Sanctum”, was universally hailed as your best in years. What is it that reinvigorated you as a band?

Byford: “Well, we’re working on it. It’s good as there’s a lot of people behind us, a lot of magazines and media so it helps. We’re working really hard and we have been doing since our ‘Lionheart’ album was released. I think our latest, ‘The Inner Sanctum’ is a great album and we’ll be hard pushed to beat that one. That album got fantastic reviews; I don’t think there’s a bad song or a filler on that album. I think it came out just at the right time.”

Starting orignally as Son Of A Bitch with line up Biffy Byford on vocals, Paul Quinn and Graham Oliver on guitars, Pete Gill on drums and Steve Dawson on bass but shortly changed their nameto Saxon and started touring as support with more established bands such as Motorhead (You’ll see them tomorrow) .

With eight different line up changes over the years, Saxon is still recording and touring. Biff Byford and Paul Quinn are the only founding member left, but Steve Dawson and Graham Oliver are together and tour as Oliver/Dawson Saxon because some dip-shit judge also gave them legal rights to the name…which I think is stupid, but who am I right?

Saxon recently released Inner Sanctum and will be releasing a double DVD entitle To Hell And Back on November 19th.
