Snot Parts Ways With Tommy Cummings
May 21, 2009 by Scott
First he’s fired from Divine Heresy and now Tommy Cummings has “parted ways” with the reunited Snot. Guitarist Mikey Doling sent Blabbermouth.net the following statement.
“SNOT is again looking for a vocalist. Unfortunately, Tommy Vext [a.k.a. Tommy Cummings; ex-DIVINE HERESY] has not worked out. Tommy’s a great guy and he is very talented, but after writing for the last five months, there has been a lot of strain on relationships within the band, resulting in the departure of Sonny Mayo [guitar] and Tommy Vext. We wish the both of them the best of luck.
“We are going to be holding tryouts eventually and would like to hear from vocalists with the goods to take the helm as the vocalist for SNOT!!
“Lynn Strait [late SNOT singer] is truly missed. We wish he were here with us today; he was the real deal. Looking for somebody to fill those shoes has proven to be very very hard, but ‘we love to jam’ and will continue doing so!
Here’s a though; start a whole new band and don’t call it Snot. You’ll never find a fitting replacement for Lynn Straight so there is no sense in someone else singing the same songs. New band, new songs.
2008…A Cursed/Blessed Year In Metal
December 31, 2008 by Scott
Even though we saw some great shows and amazing albums in 2008, we’ve also seen our share of craziness. I’ve compiled a list of some crazy things that have happened this year that I can think of off the top of my head.
- Byzantine breaks up…3 days after they release Oblivion Beckons.
- Light This City break up before releasing the last record.
- Arsis changes members more than their underwear.
- The Black Dahlia Murder lose a guitarist…steals one from Arsis.
- Phil Demmel of Machine Head passes out twice on stage.
- DJ Sid from Slipknot breaks both of his feet…keeps on trucking.
- Joey Jordison breaks an ankle, cancels UK shows.
- Nachmystium gets booted from the Opeth tour for undisclosed shenanigans.
- Kristen Randal shows her boobs…and they’re only slightly better than Amy Winehouse’s.
- Winds Of Plague drummer Jeff Tenney abruptly leaves the band mid-tour. Says he’s tired of seeing Kristen Randall’s boobs.
- Gwen Stacey singer Bobby Oakley leaves the band…cites that he’s going to sing for Mary Jane Watson.
Snot Release New Song And Announce Tour Dates
August 7, 2008 by Scott
Snot, oh Snot. I used to really dig them about 8 years ago, but the interest faded. I listen to ‘Get Some’ every now and then, but not nearly as much as I used to. When I heard they were reuniting and with Tommy Cummings as the singer, I had and still have a little doubt whether this is going to work and will it be as big (not that they were huge) or bigger than the previous version of Snot? Or will it be a big flop and mockery of Lynn Strait’s memory. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
You can check out the new song The Band Plays On at their Myspace. I listened briefly. Not quite sure what to think yet. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Snot have hooked up with TKO booking agnecy and are looking to release something new in the summer of next year. Until then they will have two headlining shows and a bunch of shows supporting Devildriver. Tour dates after the fold
Metal Drama: Dino Cazares Assaulted By Tommy Vext At L.A. Mayhem Fest Show
July 17, 2008 by Scott
You know whenever a person get’s fired from a band there is always going to be some kind of drama afterwards. Tommy Vext being fired from Divine Heresy is no exception. I honestly don’t know who’s side I would take here if I had to. In the post published by Headbangers Blog, both give pretty good accounts of what happened at the L.A. stop of Mayhem Fest. Although I’m not 100% sure that Tommy Cummings story is legit. Dino Cazares doesn’t seem like a violent person to me, while Tommy is a big intimidating looking dude. Younger and a lot more energy than 41 year old Dino. And I find it hard to believe that they just happened to be in the same place at the same time. Here are a few snippets from Headbangers Blog. You can go to myspace and read about it at Dino’s wife’s myspace blog if you like. You read the full story at the link at the bottom.
Divine Heresy Still Looking For New Vocalist
July 16, 2008 by Scott
Repost From Century Media Newsletter:
Despite parting ways with their former singer, devoting time to their ‘Master Class’ YouTube series and the occasional concert brawl, DIVINE HERESY is still in the market for a new singer! Could it be you? The first thing you need to do is hop over to DH’s MySpace page by clicking below and download some instrumental tracks.
After you have learned the songs, just record your vocals over the tracks and send them to Divineheresyband@aol.com along with a bio, any possible photos and contact information. Your vocals should be organic – that means NO ProTools, gang! The band will be making a decision soon as they begin to write their sophomore effort and will be playing a handful of Mexican and South American dates in August.
In case anyone hasn’t read or heard it elsewhere, Tommy Cummings (Vexx) is singing for reunited Snot almost 10 years after the death of front-man Lynn Straight, who died in a car accident December 11, 1998. I liked Snot, but I liked a lot of Nu-Metal and I still don’t hate it today. But I really don;t know how they’re going to sound with Tommy Cummings, it just sounds like a weird mix to me..
