Reviewing Reviews Of 2008

December 28, 2008 by Scott

wounds Looking back at some of my reviews of 2008 I can’t help but express how much I hate doing reviews sometimes. Sometimes you get excited for a newly released cd and love it for the first couple listens. Some are great cds with good sound but then later on you read what others stated in their reviews and second guess your own opinion. Some are great at the first listen but don’t hold a lasting effect that a good cd needs in order to make it a truly good release. Some take some time to sink in before you actually really start to enjoy them and some are immediate favorites. Some leave you wanting more in the manner that the entire CD is great and you want to hear more from the band and some leave you wanting more in the manner that there were only a few good songs and the rest fall really short and feel like fillers. Below are some reviews that I look back at and don’t quite feel the same as I did when I reviewed them and some I still hold firm.

Top 10 Metal Albums Of 2008

December 8, 2008 by Scott

Katprevail 2008 has been a great year for metal. Here is my Top 10 Favorite Metal Albums of 2008 (that I own). I know that there are probably a lot of other amazing metal albums that came out this year but I can only go off of what I own and what I’ve heard. So more or less these are my favorites and not some definitive collection of what I think is the best. How many people can honestly say that they have heard and thoroughly listened to every new metal album that came out this year? Anyway, let’s get to it.

Summer Metal Picks Playlist

August 17, 2008 by Scott

Summer Picks With summer in the U.S. drawing to an end The b5Media music channels are putting together their summer play lists. A lot of great music has come out this spring and summer and there is much more to come this year in terms of metal. I’ve got into so many bands this year, it’s hard to pick just a few so I’ll pick an album and my favorite song off of it. I was trying to put together one of those cool play list widgets so you could actually listen to my picks, but some of the songs were not available, so I said screw it. If you’re familiar with the bands and songs below then you know what I mean. If you’re not, give them a listen somehow, somewhere.

Soulfly: Conquer. Possibly The Best Soulfly Album…EVER!

August 15, 2008 by Scott

soulfly conquer I’ve been hesitant about buy the new Soulfy CD, Conquer,  even after hearing Unleash and really liking it. I was worried that it would be another over nu-metal, tribal crazy/crappy album like most of them are. I remember really liking the first Soulfly, but these days I can’t bear listening to it. After buying Soulfly 3 I was a bit disappointed too. The Cavalera Conspiracy gave me hope. It gave me hope that Max still had it in him. The ability to right kick ass thrashy songs.

In Case You Missed Headbanger’s Ball, Here Are The Videos

July 27, 2008 by Scott

In case you missed Headbanger’s Ball last night, here are the videos. A fairly good line up with the classic Carcass Heartwork video and a laughable Grim Reaper video. I went to sleep during Municipal Waste’s Sadistic Magician, a band that I’m not all that impressed with. The Gates Of Slumber video and song were pretty cool though. Check out the rest.

Miss Headbanger’s Ball On Saturday? Watch The Videos Here!

July 14, 2008 by Scott

Miss Headbanger’s Ball on Mtv 2 on Saturday? You can watch all the videos here. Some people don’t feel like staying up that late on a Saturday night or sitting through all the commercials or the videos. So I’ve compiled all the videos here. That way you can choose the ones you want to see and no commercials. What I hate about Headbanger’s Ball these days is that there is no commentary and rarely interviews and such like there used to be. It used to actually make for interesting viewing when there was someone to commentate about the videos and had guests on the show. Oh well, those days are gone and now they pack it into one hour and just videos. Click read more to view all the videos and play only the ones you want to see.

Soulfly - Unleash Video

July 13, 2008 by Scott

Somehow when I was typing up the Headbanger’s Ball play-list I missed Soulfly’s Unleash. I mentioned it in the intro but just forgot to put it in there I guess. So in case you missed HBB last night here is the video for Unleash. I dig this song and hopefully the rest of Conquer will sound good too.

Tonight On Headbanger’s Ball (7/12)

July 12, 2008 by Scott

hbb So what did everyone think of the new, 1 hour Headbanger’s Ball last week? I only caught the first few video before falling asleep. Getting old sucks. This week’s HBB has a bit of a mix that I’m not sure some are going to like. For instance, if you didn’t like The Dillinger Escape Plan video last week…you won’t like it this week. However the new Soulfly song Unleash kicks ass and I hope the video does as well. White Chapel will kick things off with their Headbanger’s Ball debut of Exile. Check out the list below for the full line-up.

Remember the new time for HBB is from 12 to 1 am

  1. WHITE CHAPEL - THIS IS EXILE (Headbangers Ball debut)
  2. LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR - WAR METAL BATTLE MASTER
  3. MUNICIPAL WASTE - SADISTIC MAGICIAN
  4. DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN - BLACK BUBBLEGUM
  5. THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA - HTML RULEZ DOOD
  6. SLAYER - RAINING BLOOD
  7. LAMB OF GOD - WALK WITH ME IN HELL

Win A Meet And Greet With Cavalera Conspiracy

June 3, 2008 by Scott

If you didn’t already know, Cavalera Conspiracy iscavcontest embarking on a North  America tour titled “Infliktour“. Along for the ride is Dillinger Escape plan, Throwdown, Bury Your Dead, and Incite. Soulflyweb.com is holding a contest where you can win ameet and greet with Max and Igor Cavalera at a show near you. This is what you have to do….they make you work for it, damn-it!

To participate, contestants must print off flyers for the show that they wish to attend and use them to promote the old-fashioned way. Contestants should post the flyers all over their city - staple them in buildings and on poles, pass them out after shows and to your friends, tape them on top of other signs, and do the best job at getting the word out in general. Do whatever it takes, because the person who does the most creative/best job for each gig will be selected to win!

But wait…before you go running off, plastering your own flyers all around town there are a few more details you need to read about at Soulflyweb.com
