Early Review Of Death Magnetic And A New Streaming Single

Tony Hicks of Contra Costa Times got the chance to liten to Death Magnetic in it’s entirety at the secret Metallica headquarters. Why do all these people have to go to Metallica’s headquarters to listen? Because they are afraid of leaks. I’ve been told that review copies won’t go out early but promo copies will after the release. What can you expect. The band is holding on to this shit like they have the secret formula to metal music. I think they need to check the expiration date on that formula.

Are You A ‘Fanboy’?

Are You A ‘Fanboy’?

Are you a fanboy? Do you buy up every album and all the merch of the bands you like even if they are far less than stellar? I can understand having loyalty to your favorite bands, but there is a line that you have to draw. A line that you shouldn’t step over if you want to be honest with yourself and the music.
These days it’s much easier to hear music before you buy it. With streaming media on bands Myspace pages and their official web pages you can get a pretty good preview of what’s to come before …read more

What Do You Think Of Metallica’s Cyanide?

What Do You Think Of Metallica’s Cyanide?

Thanks to Blabbermouth.net, we have a soundboard quality recording of Metallica performing Cyanide at Ozzfest from their upcoming Death Magnetic. Right now all I can say is that it’s 1000 times better than anything from St. Anger, but what will the studio, pro-tooled version sound like? Not too shabby. Back to the 90’s-ish but not too shabby. A little over-use of the wah as usual though.

So what do you think?

Metallica’s Death Magnetic WILL Be Released On A Friday

Metallica’s Death Magnetic WILL Be Released On A Friday

I previously reported that Metallica’s Death Magnetic was to be released on September 16th. It has been clarified that it will actually be a worldwide release on Friday September 12th as St. Anger was also released on a Friday. Normally CD’s are released on a Tuesday in the U.S. and everyone that saw that it was to be released in Europe assumed (Yeah, I know) that it would follow up the Tuesday after for the U.S. release date. Personally I think this is to avoid it being leaked on the Internet and people in the U.S. and other places illegally downloading …read more

Not Quite Myself Lately

Not Quite Myself Lately

Since I started writing for The Rock Dose, I found myself exploring more modern rock bands and actually enjoying a lot of it. That doesn’t mean I’m abandoning metal, in fact it doesn’t even mean I’m listening to less metal. It just means I’ve been listening to shit I normally wouldn’t. For instance, I bought the new Shinedown the other day titled Sound Of Madness and it’s actually a pretty good rock cd. I was sent a copy of Trapt’s new album Only Through The Pain and while that is a bit more of pop/rock it’s still not that bad. …read more

Metallica’s Best Release | The Results Are In

Metallica’s Best Release | The Results Are In

I started the Metallica Poll 2 weeks ago and today I’m taking it down just to replace it with another useless, yet entertaining poll. Here is the results.
Master Of Puppets, although started off a bit slow won the poll with 30% of the votes (42/138)
…And Justice For All Started out strong but in the past week started to fall slightly short. AJFA took second place with 26% of the votes (36/138)
Ride The Lightning came in third with 16% and 22 votes.
Sadly the Black Album just barely beat out Kill ‘Em All with a 17 to 15. I’m assuming this …read more

Write Metallica A Letter…Dave Grohl Did

Write Metallica A Letter…Dave Grohl Did

You may have seen this on Blabbermouth but if not here it is again.
Former NIRVANA drummer and current FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl has released the following “open letter” to METALLICA:
“Dear METALLICA,
“Hey, it’s Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I’m the guy that’s been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album ‘Kill ‘Em All’ from a mailorder catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can’t remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I’ve been listening to your albums ever since (even ‘St Anger’!).
“I can’t wait to hear the new …read more

Metallica | Selling Out Yet Again

Metallica | Selling Out Yet Again

Sorry, Couldn’t resist the headline. It’s amazing, no matter how much bad press they get. No matter how crappy of a record they put out lately, Metallica can still sell out a concert in less than an hour. I honestly don’t know why they even bother writing new material and recording it. Why don’t they just keep touring for the rest of their lives and playing old stuff. It works for Kiss and I’m sure it would work for them. If they use the excuse “We write new stuff to give the fans what they want.” then they should be …read more

Some Kind Of Fabrication! I hope you packed a lunch, this is a long one!

Some Kind Of Fabrication! I hope you packed a lunch, this is a long one!

I want to make the point that this isn’t Metallicamartyr.com, It’s metalmartyr.com just as the band Van Halen is not Van Hagar, but I sometimes tend to cover some bands a bit more than others…so. When I first started this blog, one of my first posts was “Some Kind Of Mons-Turd“. If you read this you would have seen how much I hated the documentary “Some Kind Of Monster“. Well after throwing back a half dozen Miller High-Life’s tonight (love the price-hate the next day) I was watching VH1’s “When Metallica Ruled The World” and I have come to realize …read more
