Soulfly: Conquer. Possibly The Best Soulfly Album…EVER!

I’ve been hesitant about buy the new Soulfy CD, Conquer, even after hearing Unleash and really liking it. I was worried that it would be another over nu-metal, tribal crazy/crappy album like most of them are. I remember really liking the first Soulfly, but these days I can’t bear listening to it. After buying Soulfly 3 I was a bit disappointed too. The Cavalera Conspiracy gave me hope. It gave me hope that Max still had it in him. The ability to right kick ass thrashy songs.

Conquer sounds more like a continuation of The Cavalera Conspiracy and less of a Soulfly album, but that’s a great thing. Max keeps the lyrics simple and lets us never forget how much he loves the word “fuck”, as he did with the Cavalera Conspiracy. The riffs are crunchy yet interesting and the solos are as always great from the fingers of Marc Rizzo. Max pretty much expresses his dislike for war…in every song. The theme is pretty much the same all the way through but it still sounds good. Touching the void is a cool slow groove and chop song with more instrumental than vocals and the last track, Soufly VI is a great soft instrumental arrangement. What is even better about this album is that it has very minimum of the tribal effects and such that every other Soufly album has. Sepultura Reunion Hopes Looking Up?

If you’re a Sepultura fan you’d be lying if you said that you don’t want to see a reunion anytime soon. The “Classic” line-up of Max, Igor, Andreas, and Paulo was the best to date and we all know it. While Derek Green stepped in on vocals and did a rather good job considering who’s shoes he had to fill, it was never quite the same Sepultura, as Iron Maiden was not the same without Bruce.

When Soulfly Debuted I really liked it. These days I can’t stand it. I don’t know why either. I bought Against only because I was hopeful for the new Sepultura and I didn’t hate it but it’s not a memorable album like Arise or Chaos A.D…In fact now that I think about it I can’t remember one song off of that record. Looks like I gave up back then. To date I have yet to buy another Sepultura or Soulfly cd since the two I mentioned a second ago.

In a recent interview Max stated that the time he has spent with Igor has been great and it just feels right. He also said that he handled the split with Sepultura the wrong way and he realizes that now that he is older. What I can say is this. Max, you’ve taken the first step by getting back and making music with your brother. It’s time to take the next step and contact Andreas and Paulo. We don’t necessarily want a new record right away, just a kick ass reunion tour…and then a new record. C’mon, Max. Swallow your pride, wash your hair and give the fans what they Really want.

Max Cavalera says Lamb Of God Is Alright But KSE Puts On Gayest Show Ever

Well Max, I’m sure there have been countless people that went to a Soulfly concert just to be highly disappointed. Perhaps the scene has changed since the last time Max put out a good record, which has been a long damn time! But to each his own opinion. Sometimes it’s best not to take yourself too seriously. Otherwise you start looking all Mustaine and sh*t. I don’t like the cheezy stage antics of Adam D sometimes, but hell, that’s what he does.
