The Metal Potential Of 2008

There is so many great bands releasing new albums this year it’s amazing. Just to name a few, you have young talented thrashers, Black Tide to release their Debut album Light From Above that I think will surprise a lot of people and blow them away. You have All That Remains that will be releasing their follow up to The Fall Of Ideals this summer, you have Children Of Bodom’s Blooddrunk and supposedly in September we will see the new Metallica record.

Those are just a few that we have to look forward to. Some that have already been released or also released soon are Meshuggah’s new one obZen that comes out tomorrow on Nuclear Blast , Death Angel just released Killing Season, Byzantine put out Oblivion Beckons, a great record right before breaking up and Grief Of War, the Japanese thrashers released their 3 year old debut record for the first time in America on Prosthetic Records. Testament will be releasing their next record The Formation OF Damnation on April 29th. You can hear a song More Than Meets The Eye (No it’s not the Transformers theme song) from The Formation Of Damnation on Thier Official Myspace site. Damn the list goes on and on! Disturbed is releasing a new record this year as well and we are supposed to see a new Slipknot record too. Both of which bands are going to be on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour. Light This City will be back in the studio some time this year. I’m not sure if the new record will be released in ‘08 or not but I’ll be checking on that from time to time. Lastly for all you haters out there, Trivium is supposed to release something new this year as well.

It used to be that a band would take 3 or four years before releasing a new record and often times it would be either well worth the wait or a substandard piece of cat shit. Now days metal bands take two years at the most and release great recording with no filler what so ever. And even between you have side projects from members of the bands that make for great head banging.

So in summary, 2008 is going to be a kick ass year in Metal!

I have the All That Remains CD The Fall Of Ideals and the All That Remains Live DVD both autographed by Phil Labonte and Mike Martin. This is your chance to own both of them. If you are an ATR fan and Haven’t had a chance to check out the live DVD then you have been missing out. Like any live show ATR brings their best. The Fall Of Ideals, their last release, is the CD that let the metal world know that ATR is a force to be reckoned with and they are here to stay!

So how do you win? It’s easy but I’m going to make you work for it. All you have to do is show me that you want it badly by commenting as much as possible. Ols School Review: All That Remains- This Darkened Heart

All that remains This Darkened Heart is the second release for the Massachusetts band on Prosthetic Records. With Behind Silence And Solitude three years under their belt they had established their name and sound. In 2003 it was time to mold that sound into a better barrage of metal mastery.

A line up change went into effect with the exit of Chris Bartlett (Guitars) and Dan Egan (Bass), and Producer Adam Dutkiewecz (Killswitch Engage) coming into the picture. Matt Deis came onto Bass and paino and this would be his only studio recording with the band. Unfortunately this would be the last record for Matt Bartlett on drums. As we all know in good bands, line-up changes either bring out the best of a band or contribute to the demise of it. This line-up change if anything made a more dynamic All That Remains.

The guitar duo of Oli Herbert and Mike Martin make for a great sound and these two work well together. The acoustic arrangements on the beginning of And Death In My Arms and Regret Not are amazing. The solos are great and the leads and rhythms on the entire cd can’t be touched.

Phil Labonte brought a more diverse vocal range to This Darkened Heart as opposed to the consistent low growling type vocals from Behind Silence And Solitude and I think that is what really makes this record the beginning of a great future for the band. (I hate to do the comparison but Brian Fair has nothing on Phil Labonte).

The 2006 follow up to This Darkened Heart, The Fall Of Ideals shows that All That Remains is here to stay. They will be getting back in the studio sometime in the near future and A new record will be expected in 2009.

ALL THAT REMAINS Finalizes Headlining Tour Dates

Massachusetts’ ALL THAT REMAINS has finalized all dates for the band’s forthcoming headlining tour, which is slated to start later this month and will feature support from Chimaira, Five Finger Death Punch, Divine Heresy and Prosthetic labelmates Light This City. Divine Heresy will open the tour’s first string of dates with Light This City taking over opening duties on Feb. 21.

“We are gonna be pulling out all the stops for this one,” ALL THAT REMAINS frontman Phil Labonte previously said. “We’re gonna have a far bigger production than we have ever had. I won’t make any promises and we’re probably not gonna play anything off of ‘Behind Silence.’ No time to teach old songs. We have a record to write as well as get ready for a tour. And it’s gonna be a sweet tour!”

The band continues to support its latest effort, ‘The Fall of Ideals,’ which saw a July 2006 release through Prosthetic Records.
