Swedish death metal super-group (I hate that title) Bloodbath has made a statement that due to Mikael Akerfeldt and Matin Axenrot being occupied with Opeth, there will be no appearances with Bloodbath at this summer’s European metal festivals.
“Unfortunately, we’ve to announce that BLOODBATH must pass this summer’s festival season. Mike [Mikael Åkerfeldt] and Axe [Martin 'Axe' Axenrot] have both confirmed they’re too occupied with OPETH and cannot commit to any live shows with BLOODBATH until 2010, the earliest.
I’m still fairly new to Bloodbath, but I don’t think I would want to see them without Mikael Akerfeldt anyway. Which reminds me, as much as I love The Fathomless Mastery…it never gets enough rotation time in my iPod.

If you dig Bloodbath’s Unblessing The Purity Ep, then chances are you’re going to love The Fathomless Mastery. With the same line-up as Unblessing The Purity, Bloodbath has described The Fathomless Mastery as “Nothing But Hateful Brutality“. Sounds good to me. Unblessing The Purity was an awesome Ep and just what I needed after getting in to Opeth recently.
The Fathomless Mastery will be out October 28th in the U.S. and October 6th in Europe on Peaceville Records. You can check out a couple of songs on the new mini-site or their myspace. The track listing is below.

However it came with a cd sampler that had Bloodbath’s Weak Aside on it along with 2 other songs that are pretty good and 5 more that suck royally. The cd sparked an interest in Bloodbath which also sparked my interest Opeth. I bought Watershed the other day and I was kind of surprised at how much acoustic music was on it. I still wanted more of the heavy Opeth type stuff so instead I bought Bloodbath’s Unblessing The Purity EP on iTunes and also Resurrection Through Carnage. Both are amazing pieces of metal. If you get a chance check out the EP Unblessing The Purity and I’m really looking forward to The Fathomless Mastery.

You can order Unblessing The Purity at Peaceville.com, but it’s a lot easier and might even be cheaper on iTunes.

One of the songs from the Ep called Weak Aside can be heard below through the Songza player. I first heard it on the $4.99 cd Metal Edge August 2008 compilation that comes with a free sh*tty magazine. Anyway, I was hooked on Bloodbath. It brutal, deep and hell…it’s Swedish Death Metal. You can’t really go wrong there. Have a listen…
