Ten Bands Of Todays Metal. My F’n List!

October 12, 2007 by Scott

randy-blythe.jpgOk, so the B5 music channel did some top 50 bands list thing that I wasn’t invited to…so here is my own. This Is my interpretation of ten metal bands that I think you should know in todays metal scene. While this is my own list I URGE EVERYONE to put in a little input. I’m very open minded when it comes to discovering new music and bands. So if you feel I missed a band then by all means PLEASE comment and mention that band and perhaps in the future I can do a feature on that band. Here’s mine…

1. Lamb of God, new personal favorite of mine, I can’t get enough of Ashes and Sacrament. LOG is the staple food of the new wave of American heavy metal. I now have every release and I only dislike one of them (new American gospel)

2. Shadows Fall, also a new favorite of mine. I had a few songs from previous downloads but now I have a few cds and love every second of every CD. I highly suggest everything Shadows Fall.

3. A life Once Lost, Iron gag kicks ass…nothing more I can say!

4. Trivium. Has  developed there sound into such an amazing piece of work and has matured through the years. I hope they can keep the pace.

5. Hatebreed. yeah it’s hardcore and it’s brutal. Another band that has improved with age and doesn’t let down.

6. Megadeth. I’m ashamed putting them at number 6, but the fact is that Dave mustaine has decomposed and recomposed the sound of this band so many times and it has only come to the newest line-up to become the best since the Rust, Countdown,Youthanasia, Cryptic days. I hope this line-up stands cause United Abominations is the bands best release in a long time.

7. Divine Heresy. Dino Cazares new band takes it to the next level while keeping it interesting. With the new wave of American Heavy Metal scene brewing cookie-cutter bands, this one stands out.

8. Killswitch Engage. While a lot of people don’t like them cause they mix some metal, to hardcore to emo-ish lyrics, this band keeps a metal inspired feel while keeping the songs interesting sans/solos. Howard Jones voice is diverse and the bands as a whole, aside from sometimes cheesy stage presence, kicks ass.

9. The Sword. While the production quality lacks on Age Of Winters, this band keeps it simple and Metal. Sabbath-ish riffs and songs bring you back to the beginning of doom type metal.

10. Mastodon. With the release of Blood Mountain and In my opinion, their best release, Mastodon shows what sets them apart from every other signed band in the network. Diversity is the key while consistency shows formality…you figure it out…Mastodon kicks ass!

An honorable mention is Absolute Vengeance. A.V. is an unsigned Virginia band that I can see getting big. If they don’t get signed then DAMN the record industry, cause I have only heard very little of the band and they already have my attention. I will do a future feature on this band…keep an ear out for Absolute Vengeance! I may not be a big time music mogul, but I know talent when I hear it. With the music industry signing every shitty band that comes along, the good ones get overlooked.

Anyway, this is my list. Feel free to add to it, but don’t take away. I’ll respect yours as you respect mine…

You were so invited! It was all over the forum and I sent out an email! However this is a great addition it’ll even the list up (music from everywhere!) and I just did a roundup so I’ll add you; even though my math is now affected :(

Come to the forum and do the next list…

Well if your referring to the Holiday gift guidepost that started the idea, I lost interest in the first 10 posts in the forum. Not to mention I didn’t see anything referring to a “50 bands” list I didn’t get any e-mail from ANYONE, not you nor mike so obviously someone needs to update an e-mail list somewhere. (Sigh), I don’t mean to sound bitter…but I am.

  4. Jonathan says:

Maybe you should sub-genre this a little. I’m all over Eluveitie.

  5. Brendan says:

Hey, cool list, I must concur with a lot of the pics (Lamb of God and Shadows Fall dominate!) but here’s two more from my personal stash – Children Of Bodom, and Strapping Young Lad (Canada’s finest flay the skin off your face METAL, even if there are rumours of the band shutting it down, check out the albums Alien or the The New Black!)
