That Metal Show With Eddie Trunk
November 24, 2008 by Scott
Has anyone else been following VH1’s new That Metal Show with Eddie Trunk? I’ve caught two episodes and found them quite boring. The focus isn’t so much on modern metal but features mostly stuff about older hair metal and whatnot.
Yngwie Malamsteen was on the first episode and Lita Ford was on the second episode I saw. Lita Ford is obviously showing age but she’ll always be a hottie in my book. Malsteen still looks and dresses like he has for the last 20 years, but he can still shred like a madman.
They have a segment called “Stump The Trunk” where audience members ask Eddie Trunk a trivial type question about metal and if they can stump him then they win a prize out of a box. One audience member won “The Making Of Winger 4” and was a little too excited about it.
What makes this show slightly interesting is the co-hosts. Don’t as me their names but they were much more interesting than Trunk was, however it was still a boring show. After all, it’s VH1 and we know how Metal-Mania is on VH1. They should probably change both of the names of those shows to “Hair Metal Mania” and “That Hair Metal Show“. Not nearly as good as Fuse’s Talking Metal. So far Talking Metal is probably the best metal show on TV but you never know when it’s going to be on and I haven’t seen anything about a new episode in awhile. Headbanger’s Ball is nothing but videos for an hour and comes on far too late for me to watch.
I’m not that young anymore at 32, but what I wouldn’t mind seeing is some younger metal hosts on these shows. The problem I see with a lot of these metal shows is that the hosts don’t cover as much of the modern metal scene and a lot of the focus goes to older and/or well established bands instead of putting some kind of focus on some bands that deserve more coverage.

What day/time is it on? I wouldn’t mind seeing that show, if at the very least to see what you mean. I doubt that any main-stream TV program will actually dish out decent metal. All the Hollywood Exec’s care about is what sells, and hair metal sold in the 80’s, so obviously that is the only metal that the world enjoys.
I don’t get channels like Fuse of MTV2 here in Orlando, so I don’t really have a mainstream outlet for learning about new music. Which is why I have begun frequenting these blogs, and message boards
I just saw a replay of the first episode and it said a new episode will come on Saturday at 11 EST on VH1 Classic
Hey. A friend of mine sent me the link to this review. Having been a metal fan for 25 years, I couldn’t agree more. I’m around the same age as those guys on this show and I’m not out of touch with the newer sh*t. Don’t get me wrong, I love the old school, and I have a good sense of humor but this show’s neither relevant or funny.
The latest episode with Mike Portnoy was a little better, but it still wasn’t all that great. I did like seeing the guys from Twisted Sister on the third episode (I think) and it was ok, but still not a great show to showcase much good metal. They need to show a few new videos and mix some modern metal into this mix in order for it be even remotely relevant.
