The Metal Potential Of 2008

meshuggah.jpgThere is so many great bands releasing new albums this year it’s amazing. Just to name a few, you have young talented thrashers, Black Tide to release their Debut album Light From Above that I think will surprise a lot of people and blow them away. You have All That Remains that will be releasing their follow up to The Fall Of Ideals this summer, you have Children Of Bodom’s Blooddrunk and supposedly in September we will see the new Metallica record.

Those are just a few that we have to look forward to. Some that have already been released or also released soon are Meshuggah’s new one obZen that comes out tomorrow on Nuclear Blast , Death Angel just released Killing Season, Byzantine put out Oblivion Beckons, a great record right before breaking up and Grief Of War, the Japanese thrashers released their 3 year old debut record for the first time in America on Prosthetic Records. Testament will be releasing their next record The Formation OF Damnation on April 29th. You can hear a song More Than Meets The Eye (No it’s not the Transformers theme song) from The Formation Of Damnation on Thier Official Myspace site. Damn the list goes on and on! Disturbed is releasing a new record this year as well and we are supposed to see a new Slipknot record too. Both of which bands are going to be on the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour. Light This City will be back in the studio some time this year. I’m not sure if the new record will be released in ‘08 or not but I’ll be checking on that from time to time. Lastly for all you haters out there, Trivium is supposed to release something new this year as well.

It used to be that a band would take 3 or four years before releasing a new record and often times it would be either well worth the wait or a substandard piece of cat shit. Now days metal bands take two years at the most and release great recording with no filler what so ever. And even between you have side projects from members of the bands that make for great head banging.

So in summary, 2008 is going to be a kick ass year in Metal!

Definitely seems like it’ll be a great year for metal fans in 2008. Lots of new records being released from some really good bands. Can’t wait for ATR’s next album this summer though!

    ATR

  2. 2007 and now 2008 seem great years for come backs all over the world! It is nice!

Amon Amarth are recording in May, to be released later in the year, according to their website.

Also, expect a great new album from All Shall Perish, Embrace The End (already heard it, its exceptional), and multiple smaller bands. (A Different Breed Of Killer, The Red Shore, Etc…)

LOL. Slipknot & Disturbed are supposed to be anticipated!!!??? Dude I tell you what, you should give yourself 5 more years education of metal. Thousands of bands out there are thousand times better and should be anticipated more than Slipknot&Disturbed.

I’m not a disturbed fan but there may be others that are anticipating this album. I am a slipknot fan and I don’t give two tiny shits who does and does not like them. I’m a little excited to see what they have for us this year, even though the new mask campaign is absolutely terrible.

I just put a few out there…if you don’t like it then oh well…go “anticipate” the next Jonahs brothers record.

Sage goes in all fields for soiling real metal with Gaytallica.

Brainhead, I will give you that albums by bands like AC/DC, Judas Priest, Motorhead were more anticipated by a wider audience; but lets not forget that Slipknot have a huge fanbase that have been just as eager to hear the new stuff. As a Disturbed fan, I certainly couldn’t wait for Indestructable to come out; I couldn’t have cared less about Priest, etc’s new albums.

Looking back at this list there was a lot of other bands that I missed, but it was still early in the year and I hadn’t heard too much yet.

Slipknot’s All Hope Is Gone was a huge disappointment for me but there were so many other albums that came out that were awesome. 2008 was good year for metal and 2009 is looking pretty good as well so far.
