The Revolver Golden God Awards Look Pretty Damn Lame

I’m looking over the awards that were given out for Revolver’s Golden God Awards that took place last night in L.A. and I seriously think this is why the rest of the world thinks that American Metal sucks. Here is the complete list of winner according to Bravewords.com.

So they got something right. Vinnie Paul is an “Awesomely good drummer”, Dave Mustaine is a Golden God and Ozzy does deserve the lifetime achievement. I’ll even go as far as saying that Slipknot do put on a hell of a live show, but the rest kind of baffle me.
I love Slayer, but mind-blowing is not how I would describe their guitar playing. You already know how I feel about Metallica winning the best album for Death Magnetic, I mean that’s just ridiculous. Most Metal Athlete? Honorary headbanger? They couldn’t come up with a couple more awards to award actual metal bands and not just people associated with metal in some stupid way? How about awarding Dimebag, Cliff Burton, Randy Rhodes and Chuck Schuldiner a posthumous award or something? Maybe a “Most Brutal” award to Cannibal Corpse or Suffocation? Jesus, this looks almost as bad as The Grammy’s. Here is some shitty fan filmed footage of Megadeth playing Holy Wars.
Some of those are real, some of them aren’t. That website lied. I’m pretty sure there was alot more awards too but I can barley remember them
I was at the show last night and I agree. Other than Ozzy and Dave Mustaine getting awards the rest of the show seemed to be based on who would be able to show up. Metal deserves more respect and the “mock” awards show at Nokia will not help metals reputation. Megadeth Rocks! They were awesome!
Why does metal need an awards show anyway? Awards for music are ridiculous, just like the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is an affront to everything rock n roll is supposed to be about (or was, at one point . . .).

I thinking of writing something about the subject since MTV2 is airing this in a week. So, here is my question: does metal REALLY need frickin awards? It has survived this long without awards, why now? Awards are frickin joke half of the time, and really don’t mean much to fans. What happens to metal now that is has awards?
I totally agree. We have so may awesome metal bands that are becoming icons and we still have to go back to the same guys we have been listening to for what 20 years! What? we have not had so many new metal megastars that do not deserve so much praise! I love the old guys (sans metallica) but we have so much new talent in the metal genre that you can’t even think of the ignoring them! Let them get there due! And I’m sorry I do think metal deserves their own award because we are too much ignored and we know as in any area of the world you want to award your best for being acceptional at what they do! Sorry if i affend but my opion.
I agree with you, Kelly. Love Slipknot, but there are so many other talented bands like Lamb of God, Unearth, and The Human Abstract who are AMAZING musicians with sick riffs! I can understand Dave and Ozzy…but I don’t understand Kat Von D winning an award, either. Very talented tattoo artist, but…not a metal musician. You have a good point, Scott–I was kinda hoping to see a Dimebag/Rhodes award. *sigh* MTV2 cut out so much shit, it was like watching a bunch of performances with bleeps all over. But overall, Miguel is right. Never needed awards, as long as you have the die hard fans
the crowd was extremely dull. the bands were trying to get them to move, but no such luck. to a casual viewer that swtiched to the channel, metal must like like a piece of crap.

suicide silence won some shit award even though they are one of the biggest scene bands of our time. revolver’s new issue has them on the cover.
with the award show and suicide on the cover, i have to say, revolver has lost creability. SUICIDE SILENCE!?!?! come on! that’s not metal. that’s trash. every song sounds the same. i love heavy, dont mind that. but they’re a joke.

Best album???? Death Magnetic was average at best. How bout All Hope Is Gone, Black Clouds-Silver Linings, Endgame is clearly a better album as well not sure if that was released before the show.
