Things You Shouldn’t Say, No Matter Who You Are. Slipknot Overtake Metallica?

No matter how much trash any of us metal blogging hacks might say, there is always one thing we can not deny. Metallica always will be the biggest, most popular band in heavy metal, no matter what they released after …And Justice For All. The fact is that Metallica made a name for themselves in the 80’s that while has been tarnished a bit, is still the biggest and most well known name in metal. They are like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and The Who. They will always be on top no matter how much you despise what they have done or are doing.
Slipknot are a big name now too. A fan following that rivals most metal bands and top selling albums…but they will NEVER-NEVER out-do, over-take or anything Metallica. It’s the truth. Blabbermouth reported Chris Fehn saying this to the Kansas City Times:
“I think we’re going to overtake METALLICA,” Fehn told KansasCity.com in a recent interview. “We’re going to overtake any band that sells out soccer arenas in Europe. We’re going to do it. We’re the last chance as far as the world goes.”
What? Are you serious dude? He also said that Slipknot have not peaked and have not made their “Black Album” yet. I can agree with that. But I think they did make their “Load” album this year.

good analogy there, though personally i like many more slipknot songs then metallica songs. as full albums i would rather listen to any of slipkots full cds then any of metalica’s full cds. but i agree , in the public slipknot will never overtake metallica, unless lars decides to kill a baby or something
I’m pretty sure if Slipknot ever overtook Metallica in any way from the amount of records sold to the amount of people at their shows to just making an album as good as Master of Puppets or …And Justice for All I think I would probably have to pronounce metal dead….
Wow… that is one dumbass statement from Fehn. I’m all for having confidence but that doesn’t mean you have to be arrogant. Metallica deserves to be respected and, well, in my opinion, this was just a disrespectful statement.

I personally think Black Sabbath is the greatest heavy metal band ever and Led Zeppelin is the heaviest ever (and the inventor). I respect Metallica as the second greatest metal band.
yeah, that’s him. He’s one of the “percussionists” that jumps around and jerks his nose off. Thought the act was kind of cool at first, way back, but I honestly think they could do without him. With the way the band plays these days I don’t think half of the members are needed.
i dont think there’s a big enough metal scene to overtake what metallica did in the 80s
Nick… AUGGHHHH I have to disagree with you about Zeppelin, they are a GREAT hard rock band with a serious blues edge, but Sabbath was the real creator of metal. IMO the people who say Zeppelin created metal are drinking the Kool-aid. Just my two cents.
Really, Black Sabbath can probably lay more claim to creating “conventional” metal, particularly Doom/Stoner Metal, however Jimmy Page definitely occupies a good chunk of the “Stock Licks” section of the Metal Bible.
slipknot brings so much emotion to every show and threw every song but to say they overtake metallica thats just a l. I love slipknot just as much as any metalhead out ther but they could never upstage metallica. and as for sabbath i hav nothin but love 4 the ozzman
no offense…but if lars dosen’t give james a break then he might quit and then yes mettallica will crash and burn then slipknot WILL most likely be the biggest metalhead [besides sabbath wich rocked when ozzy sang for them]
i gotta say that theyll never overtake mettallica and i much prefer mettallica but id say black sabbath definitely created it i mean they dont call ozzy the godfather of metal for nothing
