Velvet Revolver…Unloaded

by Scott on April 3rd, 2008

With all the trash talking back and forth with this Velvet Revolver break-up it makes you wander how they made it together this long. Scott Wieland was not the best choice in the first place in my opinion. Honestly that is the soul reason I never liked this band. Axl Rosenberg over at Metalsuck.net said it best:

“FUCK SCOTT WEILAND. I’m glad you’ve been able to get this far based on your limited vocal range and ability to mimic the same style of on-stage dancing that Bowie and Iggy Pop were doing thirty years ago, but seriously, stop trying to compete with Axl Rose for the “Biggest Asshole” award - Axl will beat your ass every time.”

Slash and the crew should have known better than to hire this guy based on his in and outs of rehab, not to mention the guys in STP obviously were tired of his shit…or are they? The remaining members say that they are not done. To them I say audition other singers, maybe some unknowns, instead of going to “Damaged goods” like Weiland that only ruin the credibility of your band when they do the dance as Axl Rosenberg states and just total weirdness of some freak-ass junkie. It’s obvious the band has talent…now if only they can find a frontman that’s not such a tool.

Scott has his problems, but he’s one heck of a frontman. His dancing may be copying others, but it’s entertaining during live shows.

As for his limited vocal range, I don’t think Axl Rosenberg has listened to STP albums like “Tiny Music”. Personally, I think Scott has a great vocal range.

Also, there were more problems in STP then just Scott’s problems. They just felt like they reached their peak and there was nothing more for them to accomplish.

And, do supergroups ever last? There are too many egos, in my opinion, for a band like VR to stick around.

Finally, I’m glad Scott is back with STP, that’s where he belongs anyways.

” Tiny Music ” sucked. Even STP acknowledged how bad that album was by playing only 1 or 2 songs of this album on tour for it and concentrating on the first two albums for the bulk of their setlist. And in my humble opinion, Velvet Revolver has to be the weakest super group ever!!! Their first album is super boring ( I have no clue why so many people bought it ).I haven’t bothered to listen to Libertad. But it is good to see Scott back with STP. Now maybe STP can get back to making good music ( if Scott can stay clean for more then 5 seconds ).

I lost faith in STP after Core. It was cool when it first came out. I would hear it on the radio all the time. After that it all seemed to be a blur. Scott in and out of rehab, the buzz, the bullshit, The crazy dancing in videos and on stage. I just got tired of it really fast and velvet revolver was a big turn off for me for that reason. Maybe they will find a new, better singer and I’ll start listening.

STP has been known to fill their setlists with songs from basically “Core” and “Purple”. I saw them when they were on tour promoting “No. 4″ and then “Shangri La Dee Da”, and they played maybe one or two songs from those albums. So, if you base that they think an album sucks just because they don’t play many songs from that album, then 3 of their 5 albums suck. Which, I don’t buy. I think they just cater to the crowd, who a bulk of want to hear songs from “Core” and “Purple”.

I don’t think VR was a weak supergroup, it just didn’t click. I thought the idea of Scott joining them was great, but he obviously has issues and you would think that the other guys in VR would want a frontman that didn’t have issues, since they had to previously put up with Axl. I also think that “Libertad” was much better than “Contraband”, they actually sounded like they were becoming a band with their own identity.

If you are filling your setlist with songs from a particular album you are acknowledging the strength of those songs. 3 out of 5 of thier albums did suck.

    I think you’re wrong.

They were just making the fans happy. I would say that most bands stick to playing the songs that fans know during a concert. Just because a bulk of their setlist is from two albums doesn’t mean that the rest of their albums are bad. If this was true then most bands would acknowledge that some of their albums suck. That is a weak arguement, they are just pleasing the fans who paid to see them.

And, 3 of their albums didn’t suck. Did you ever listen to anything past “Purple”?

I love f@%&’s who trash bands and then mention they “never bothered” to listen to a particular album.

I can see you guys not liking some of the later STP stuff or even VR, maybe it’s not metal enough for you.

Libertad was one of the better straight-up rock albums I’ve heard in years.

Tiny Music, Four, Shangri-La - all different and unique albums, kinda like a band that did different shit - and with much respect.

And the reason they don;t play a lot of shit from those albums is because none of you fu@$%ers bothered to listen to them, so you’d just get pissed at the shows ;)

Scott is just fine at what he does - I’d like to see you get on stage and entertain a crowd. You’d probably just stand there looking like a dork.

I have got on stage and entertained a crowd, and I did it without heroin and eye liner. Maybe not as huge of crowds as they draw but I’ve done it a couple times. You do it once and every time after that is easy.

and for the record a lot of readers and myself don’t just listen to metal, so the problem isn’t that STP and VR are not metal enough. This wasn’t a shot at VR or STP.

If you’re taking shots at Weiland, you’re taking shots at the bands as well. Both of those bands wouldn’t be discussed here if it wasn’t for him, I’m sorry.

He’s not some amazing musician or changed the planet or anything, but he is what he is, and that’s an entertainer. What did STP do after they broke up? They did a cool little thing with Army of Anyone, and no one really cared. Why? No star of the show like Weiland.

Whether er like it or not, eyeliner and heroin get people interested. He’s larger than life.

heroin only gets heroin addicts and drama leeches interested these days. Drug use and drama tears bands apart.

We’ve lost enough great frontmen to heroin (Kurt Kobain, Layne Staley).
